- At Indiahikes, we strongly believe that children must trek. When they’re young and observant is the best time to expose them to the outdoors. They absorb lessons of resilience, confidence, and leadership and also learn to protect the environment. These deep values take a very long time to imbibe in a person, but it can happen over just a few days on a trek.
In this video Swathi Chatrapathy, Head of Content Team shares about three main points that make a trek suitable for children and also recommends 5 treks that are suited for kids between 8-10 yrs old

Absolutely amazing information… all your videos and information is excellent
Literally, I was waiting for this video..
Hope it helped :)
Though I have not trek with India hikes but I saw your arrangements are great for beginners. Keep it up.
We went for a family trek to Dayara Bugyal this summer with our 8 year old twins..(infact we curiously were watching this video to see if one of our group pics features here ;) )we totally loved the experience.Next on our plan is Deorital Next summers...IH is doing a fantastic job..they are so damn clear in their vision...Totally love India Hikes...
Also agree that preparing for the trek brings about excitement and bonding to another level. 😀
Thanks. These treks will also be a good start for beginners like me.
Definitely :)
I have sort followed the sequence which Swathi has suggested. In 2019 I went to Dayar Bugyal with my 8 year old daughter and then to Kuari pass in 2022. Now we are planning more. In my personal experience it tends to a great exposure to the children and opens them up and as mentioned in the video also even the preparation for trek brings the family together. Highly recommended to all parents.
What a😀bout treks for Sr citizens. 😄😅
@@madhavrao1745 Ji my recommendation is to start with Dayara Bugyal , once you have done that comfortably you will be ready for the other treks
Thank you sir.

@rajesh: did you do Dayra Bugyal in winter with your kid?
We did the Dayara Bugyal trek with our 13 and 10 year old with IH, the first Himalayan trek for them. They simply loved it and are looking forward to more such experiences. Looking forward to trekking again this summer.
Hi Niki, so glad to hear that your kids loved the trek! Wishing your family more such adventures together:)
In late December and early January, we completed Bajredara trek at West Sikkim. Our son (10) was there with us, in fact, it was the first trek for all of us. It was difficult for us but we had a good experience!
Very nice , I m shaba from Gujarat, RC & mountaineering inst 👌👌👌👌
I m planning to take my 15 years old on a trek..thanks for the video
That's super! Do get in touch with us if you need help :)
Priceless information.
How suitable is Khaliya top trek from munsyari, for a 10 year old?
Thanks a lot for the suggestions. I did the VOF trek this august and was very impressed by seeing few kids with the India hikes team . Looking forward to take my 12 year old son on his first trek next spring or summer . Would Daayra Bugyal be ok to trek in late March ?
It's extremely beautiful in late March. There will be quite some snowy sections at that time of the year, but it's more fun than anything else. :)
Please make a video on safety from wild animals and snakes. I requested earlier also.
In which trek we can find snow at the end of april
Hello I would like to know if 13 year old children can come to trucking with their friends in the family trucking instead of summer camps
Any Trek in Himachal?
The last 2 treks are not available as family trek in IH websites. I m looking for my son 13 years old.
Which are best himalayan/north east/uttarakhand scenic dense forest treks for beginner adults and arent overwhelming ? Age group : 40-45 . Current trek experience - 1 day trek with duration no more than 3 hours trek . Current fitness of group is daily workout ( some run some swim some do gymming) 5 days a week for 45 minutes
Hi! Amazing to see your enthusiasm for trekking. We have curated this list for beginners trekking and this article will definitely help you. :) indiahikes.com/blog/best-himalayan-treks-beginners-india
@@Indiahikes thank you 😊. But most of these are snow ones and also none from north east india. Also would acclimatization be a problem at such high altitudes for beginners like us as all are 10000 feet plus ?Could you pls suggest ones with forests and also from north east?
Mam what do you think about Harkidun valleY....???
That would be a very long trek for children, since each day is quite long. Even exit isn't easy. You could do 2-3 days of the trek and come back and give the child a nice cultural experience. But wouldn't recommend doing the whole trek unless the child is above 12-13 and fit.
Any tracks for senior citizens
You could actually choose all of the same treks mentioned in this video, for the same criteria. They are all suitable for seniors as well :)
Har ki dun or kuari pass ?
For children? Definitely kuari pass. it's the shorter of the two and has more variety for children.
I have 2 kids aged 7+ and 8+ yrs…How would u recommend Sandakpu trek to begin with…
Wouldn't really recommend it unless you're planning to do it at your own pace and a mix of vehicle+trekking. For 7-8 year olds it's too lengthy a trek. Would recommend choosing from one of the treks mentioned in the video.
Hi. I want to take my 8.5 year old for her first trek and I've already done Dayara. Is Kuari pass doable?
Yes, definitely. We have had 8-9 years old trekked the Kuari Pass before. :)
Hi. Are there any treks where we can take a 5 year old?
Hi Aditya, unfortunately, we don't have any treks for 5 year olds. The minimum age criteria for all our Himalayan treks is 8 years.
But you can start taking your child to the local day hikes around your city to introduce him/her to the world of trekking.
We do have 240+ treks across India documented on our website. You can check them out to plan your hikes - indiahikes.com/documented-treks
Can we do any trekk with 5years old child??
I have done rudranath with my 4 year old son. Had to carry him in rucksack after pithragarh. So it depends on your confidence and certain parameters if you opt for any trek.
Any treks for 6 years old?
6 would be a little too early for longer Himalayan treks. It's better to start local, or maybe take them on weekend treks to begin with. To a place like Benog Tibba or Prashar Lake. This article written by our founder will give you a very good idea of how to go about it - indiahikes.com/children-trekking/
My son is 6 yrs...plz recommend treks for him
1 day trek I want...as he is very small
My baby completed tiffin top treacle at 3 year and Kheerganga track at 4 yr depends on ur kid capacity’s
