  • Which heavy rod is the best for pike fishing? That's a good question. Many people and many opinions. I can't answer this question too. I was looking for short spinning rod with big casting weight and to be honest there is not many in this category. So I came across Savage Gear SG4 Power Game 7.3ft 50-100g. I didn't had too many rods for pike fishing so I can't say too much. In my head I have much better rod than this one for that type of fishing. But from the pike rods I had - this one is the best so far. It has okay casting range, sensitive, and feels super light. Sturdy enough for jerk baits but it has softines for casting and absorbing shakes.Really fun to fish with. Now just need to catch big pike for final test.

    I have the SG2 version, same lenght and classing and it is a great rod. So good im contemplating buying one in baitcaster version. Works with lighter baits and also cast 100g good.

    I've got the SG4 ultralight rated 1 - 5 grams. I was a bit sceptical at first because the tip was quite thick for a 1 - 5 rated rod, but to be fair you can still feel the tiniest of bites so it's definitely growing on me after a few uses

      Nice to hear that you like your rod 💪never tried SG4 1-5g. My rod is 50-100g and it is very sensitive for thet power as well 🎣🎣🎣

    Glad you liked your new Rod Gedis. Looks like your trusty Agility rod may become redundant??
    Something that I can't quite get my head round is that is obviously a rod for casting heavier lures,
    but in choosing that particular class of rod do you not loose out on the thrill of the fight because
    it is a heavier action, or is it still just as enjoyable as a lighter action rod?? I always wonder if by
    going heavier it's like using a sledgehammer to crack a small nut, if you understand where I'm
    coming from. All that said I'm sure your particularly views will no doubt help your followers make
    a decision about a rod such as this. Great upload as always my friend thank you for sharing,
    and taking me with you to test, and christen your new purchase. Phil.

      Thanks Phil 😁
      No, I can't see Agility getting redundant 😅 Just now will be used less than before.
      Yes You are right, by increasing cast weight You sacrifice sensitivity and pleasure to fight with fish. Lighter You go - more fun You get.
      The problem is - I do like big lures for pike fishing, and choosing big lures, I need heavier rod.
      So far this rod is something different. I had pleasure to fight with pike only twice and they weren't big but this rod feels so much lighter and more pleasurable to fight with pike. Even small pike brought a lot of fun.
      Thanks Phil for being together, always appreciate 🤝😁🎣🎣🎣

      Man And Rod its all about enjoyment at the end of the day, and if you are getting the same thrill
      then who am I to question your judgement, your opinion to me is very important as I consider
      you to be a true sportsman, but more importantly a true friend 🙏🏻👌

      It is not the same thrill as with light or ultra light rod but still lots of joy 😁
      And yes, You are absolutely right - joy and adventure is the real goal 😁
      Thanks my Friend 😉🎣🎣🎣

    Nice video! Since you are the only one I found that gave some actually good and real info I must ask you what do you think wich one from sg4 bc rods would fit for fishing hanube salmon, trout, cat and big pikes on 30-90g lures? What's the difference between power game, swimbait and tuff game? I want to pair it with sg8 bc 300 for river fishing. Thanks

    • @ManAndRod
      @ManAndRod  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks, appreciate your comment 🤝
      I'm not using bc but if you will use lures up to 90g, then would be better casting weight upt to 130g. Otherwise will be hard to set the hook. Specially if you will use soft plastic lures. Longer rod will let you cast smoother and your muscles will be less tired ( if you like longer rods).

      @@ManAndRod Thanks for the answer 🤝
      I am used on 2.70 rods but I never actually had bc setup. This will be my first ever and I was sceptic since I have to order it cuz no store in my area have savage gear. I think I will go with sg8 bc 300 reel and sg4 power game 80-150g rod. A bit afraid I will lose sensitivity and contact on 30g lures tho

    • @ManAndRod
      @ManAndRod  11 месяцев назад

      Hard to say as i never tried this rod. Potentially you will loose some sensitivity for light lures but if you will like bc then eventually you will have to buy second setup for lighter lures.

      It is a great rod, you should enjoy it 😁
      Hard to say what is better for you. Try to think about what size lures you want to cast. Length is very personal thing. Personally I'm willing to sacrifice some of casting distance in return of usability. Shorter rod will let you easier to play with jerk baits, easier to cast when trees are around. With longer rod you can cast further and probably it would deal with fish better. Hope it was useful at least a bit 🎣

      Glad to help 😁 Very good that you chose sg4. Today on sg4 50-100g I caught 20 pounds pike, was no problem to pull out. I was shocked how well it did. A pleasure to fight with small pike and strong enough for 20 pounds 👍💪🎣

    Anyone?? Is the savage gear rods in green colour (sg4 light game rod 75759), the exact same as Ron Thomson 'Shoot Out' Lure rods? They sure look the same, same range, same specs, just different stickers? Anyone?

      @ManAndRod  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi 🤝 i just looked at those rods and theydo look identical. Can't answer question are they exactly same or just same looking and same casting weight. But you are right, they do look suspiciously same 🤔

    • @ManAndRod
      @ManAndRod  7 месяцев назад +1

      30g is not ideal but no problem as well. Very dependent on what lure you are using. If you will be using metal lure, should be no problem. Unless every single meter is very important in your fishing

    Savage Gear is garbage. Stiff, Chinese garbage, and butt sections long enough to be used as trekking sticks. Once you put a Loomis, Lamiglas, or one you make on a top notch blank...all other rods become obsolete.

    • @ManAndRod
      @ManAndRod  2 года назад

      Never owned loomis, lamiglas. I do believe that they are much better but they are more expensive too. I don't have too many rods but from what i had, this SG4 feels very good 😅

    • @spinningrodfisherman
      @spinningrodfisherman 2 года назад +2

      i have loomis rods. they are excellent and super light weight for different applications. but they don't make heavy spinning rods for those who don't want to fish baitcasters. i don't think i need a super sensitive blank to fish huge plugs. when they smash it they smash it.
