I've worked for a small business for over a decade, and now I run one myself. Some people truly do not seem to understand that we are also people? I've had customers ask me to come in on days & times outside of my work hours in order to, "fit their schedule" better. Uhhh, what about my schedule? One client demanded we deliver a product to her (we have literally never delivered) because she "lives too far away to come in" (a 20 minute drive away to be exact). If you want a custom cake made, you still have to schedule them in advance. U can't just go into a local shop with a bakery and expect a custom cake for 120 people to be made instantly. It would at least several hours & that doesn't account for if other people scheduled ahead of you

I love it when people are like "I can buy this at walmart for $20" because its just like...then why are you here? You know what I do when I think "I can just buy this at walmart?" I go buy it at walmart...likely without even considering other avenues. If I'm shopping elsewhere its usually a deliberate choice because I either A) know that I can get better things elsewhere or B) don't want to give walmart money. I'll spend $70 and a week of wait time for a cake because its not from the walmart bakery (walmart cakes are mid at best). Pretty sure even walmart bakery won't get you a 120 person cake by tomorrow when its already 9pm (just checked, their custom cakes only go up to 96 servings, and being a megacorp they likely don't have the flexibility you can expect from a small baker). They probably won't even answer the phone until first thing in the morning and they'll probably only tell you "you can come in and see if we've already made a cake that fits your needs, but we need 3 days notice for custom cakes." Because while I don't get custom cakes made at walmart's bakery, I'm pretty sure they _also_ have minimum notice for custom cakes. They have other customers, they need to produce X amount of cakes for sale and they have other people who want custom cakes as well, they can't just drop all of that.

As someone who works at a place that regularly hosts birthday parties, there is a shocking amount of folks that just don't seem to plan parties well. The cake video is why I'm bringing this up. But (very rarely) we have folks try and set up a party with just a few days notice and I don't understand why folks don't think to contact us sooner and then complain because they don't know what else to do and they had already told other people that my workplace was their plan.

I lost count of how many people I said something to effect of "It doesn't matter how much money you have, we are not capable of doing that and are unwilling to try for any fee. Good luck in finding a company with the correct equipment to do this, since I don't know of any. Have a good day." and then hang up on them because they were insane people asking for things that even if we were willing to attempt.. would probably have resulted in the deaths of my coworkers as well as destruction of the clients property... so... *shrug* hence our unwillingness at any fee. But to those types, that just doesn't compute. They have no ability to understand that money doesn't actually buy everything and anything. People still have to consent (to dealing with you, if nothing else). ok.. had to just get that out cause I wanted to punch my screen. lol

Some people truly do not seem to understand that we are also people? I've had customers ask me to come in on days & times outside of my work hours in order to, "fit their schedule" better. Uhhh, what about my schedule? One client demanded we deliver a product to her (we have literally never delivered) because she "lives too far away to come in" (a 20 minute drive away to be exact).

I would hire that baker in a heartbeat after seeing that & give her a much needed 3-5 months in advance heads up of what I would want for my cake, especially if it's for 120 people. This lady also said that Walmart could do this, which yes they could, but they also get there at like 4 am, and those cakes are very basic sheet cakes. If you want a custom cake made, you still have to schedule them in advance. U can't just go into a local shop with a bakery and expect a custom cake for 120 people to be made instantly. It would at least several hours & that doesn't account for if other people scheduled ahead of you

I love it when people are like "I can buy this at walmart for $20" because its just like...then why are you here? You know what I do when I think "I can just buy this at walmart?" I go buy it at walmart...likely without even considering other avenues. If I'm shopping elsewhere its usually a deliberate choice because I either A) know that I can get better things elsewhere or B) don't want to give walmart money. I'll spend $70 and a week of wait time for a cake because its not from the walmart bakery (walmart cakes are mid at best). Pretty sure even walmart bakery won't get you a 120 person cake by tomorrow when its already 9pm (just checked, their custom cakes only go up to 96 servings, and being a megacorp they likely don't have the flexibility you can expect from a small baker). They probably won't even answer the phone until first thing in the morning and they'll probably only tell you "you can come in and see if we've already made a cake that fits your needs, but we need 3 days notice for custom cakes."
Because while I don't get custom cakes made at walmart's bakery, I'm pretty sure they _also_ have minimum notice for custom cakes. They have other customers, they need to produce X amount of cakes for sale and they have other people who want custom cakes as well, they can't just drop all of that.

Obviously a bit mean to do to someone for no reason but if they’re being purposely obnoxious to others (and they don’t seem dangerous or like they’ll come after you for it) and you don’t like confrontation, it might make them stop for a minute and worry about how they smell xD

As someone who works at a place that regularly hosts birthday parties, there is a shocking amount of folks that just don't seem to plan parties well. The cake video is why I'm bringing this up. But (very rarely) we have folks try and set up a party with just a few days notice and I don't understand why folks don't think to contact us sooner and then complain because they don't know what else to do and they had already told other people that my workplace was their plan.

Shocker, my boyfriend doesn't know about them, and I don't think he would care at all if he randomly found them one day. I know most of the kids at my school actually talked about making RUclips videos when I was a kids I think any partner would probably laugh a little bit and find it endearing, his reaction is just so unhinged. It feels like he just wants to argue with her, sad.
The baker lady - the customer she dealt with.. at my most recent job (it closed, I was laid off) I had the great pleasure of dealing with that type of person regularly. Now that was a small business and I had a great deal of ability to laugh at them and hang up. Which was nice. Those types existed pre-2020 but something changed during the pandemic and the number grew and they got exponentially worse. I lost count of how many people I said something to effect of "It doesn't matter how much money you have, we are not capable of doing that and are unwilling to try for any fee. Good luck in finding a company with the correct equipment to do this, since I don't know of any. Have a good day." and then hang up on them because they were insane people asking for things that even if we were willing to attempt.. would probably have resulted in the deaths of my coworkers as well as destruction of the clients property... so... *shrug* hence our unwillingness at any fee. But to those types, that just doesn't compute. They have no ability to understand that money doesn't actually buy everything and anything. People still have to consent (to dealing with you, if nothing else). ok.. had to just get that out cause I wanted to punch my screen. lol
