As a habitual surgery patient, here are my tips, as someone who goes the natural route, where possible: 1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. 2. When you first start back on solids, make every other thing that you eat be something that either gives you diarrhea or loose stools, normally (assuming you love those foods.) 3. Don't sit on your butt! Get up and get moving, to get those bowels moving, as well! Love your videos, Docs, and enjoyed your new intro.
We tried that after one of my surgeries, My husband bought me White Castles. They failed to have the desired effect but they tasted good. 🤣 I'm a frequent flier for surgeries too. I was in an accident and they've been fixing me every since. I think I only have one more to go. I'm not in any hurry though. I'd lie to get it over with but summer is coming and after being cooped up from covid we're really to do some traveling. I'll probably have my surgery in maybe November or even after Christmas. The weather is crummy so what a good time to recover.

Love the new intro!☺️ Post op, we want our patients up and moving as soon as possible! Get those bowels moving. Water, but prune juice, or warming up prunes with breakfast helps patients too. Milk of Mag at night, can help get someone on track. Mirelax pre-op helps to ward off issues as well. Women, tend to be cursed by constipation.😓
Of course it was safe, duh 😂. I’ve taken it once as a adult and it worked without the awful cramps. I’m assuming it can be used regularly. No I’ve not been smoking weed. 😊

Great videos. I just watched your plant based video. I wanted to add, through my research, I believe cholesterol is often high from sugar consumption. My hubby has a 100% blockage of his carotid artery. His triglycerides were really high. We did plant based whole foods & gave up white sugar. We use Stevia or Vermont maple syrup, even dates. Wish I'd realized how important diet is, a long time ago. We really are what we eat. Thanks for the info!
I’ve commented many times; you Gents are amazing. I think we’d all like to just invite you to dinner and hang out because you’re those kinda Guys. Like the BOSS acronym too. I’m a one pill a day (PPI for GERD) but in my early 60s, despite being active and hydrated, my body isn’t as great at eliminating as it once was. Metamucil is a life saver for someone like me too who has slow motility. Thanks for the topics you bring forward. Anyone in TO area are so fortunate to have you as their Doctor’s/Surgeons. THANK YOU 😊
After my most recent surgery I was given a prescription for Lactulose solution. That stuff should automatically be given to patients who will be on extended opioid medications. Compared to my previous 6 surgeries no one even hinted that this stuff exists. It was like giving birth it was so painful and constipated. If you write a script for an opioid, write one for Lactulose. I had 3 back surgeries in the same week, every other day. 😱 It was lots of fun. 🙄 I was sent to rehab and after 3 days in rehab I ended up in the ER in intractable pain. The people at rehab were not giving me my pain meds on schedule and they changed the dosage to half of what I was supposed to get. The ER nurse said I was medically tortured. I was crying in pain. My husband was horrified at how much I'd gone down hill after my release from the hospital. I was in the hospital for 8 days and didn't have a BM. But I also hadn't eaten a single thing in the hospital. Nothing. So I ended up back at the hospital and was there overnight. They gave me an emema, nothing happened except some mucus jel like junk came out. TMI, I know but there's a point to this. Anyway on my discharge was written explicit directions for my pain management (I was going home to recover) and included in my discharge info was a prescription for Lactulose. My husband got the Lactulose right away along with my new prescription for painkillers because the rehab place wouldn't let me have them. 😡 Once I used the Lactulose it was like a miracle. I was kind of afraid of the stuff so I took less than the instructions said. I was extremely lucky and my decision to go half dose worked great for me. So, in my opinion every opioid script should come standard with a Lactulose script, with refills.

As an introduction, my mother died of colorectal cancer. At first our doctor thought it was a hemorrhoid (this was 35 years ago) but he sent her for an immediate colonoscopy - cancer. She had some massive/ painful surgery followed by chemo and radiation -against the recommendation of her five children - one of whom was an oncology surgical nurse. She was 122 lbs. before her surgery; sh died at 47 lbs. and looked like the people at Buchenwald. But because of her cancer. the five of us siblings got colonoscopy. I ha a 2.5+ polyp which was removed. With the polyp went my constipation and there was no cancer. Now I go every 2.5 years for a follow up and removal of very small polyps. Shredded wheat with apple juice (tastes better than milk), oatmeal with maple syrup (made from scratch) brings the fluid down to my large colon. Everything just normal. Give it a try. Stay healthy and God bless you all.
My most deepest sympathies and prayers for you and your family. I'm so very sorry for what happened to your mother. I'm glad you have had your health issues resolved. Huge hugs to you and God bless. 🧡🙏🏼✝️🙏🏼💛💐🌈

I am from Ethiopia and I finished HS here in the US in 2020, Since I finished HS and got was a new thing, I started to save some money to buy a laptop(MacBook) to study tech and cybersecurity, and IT. I haven't left the house for 2 years by this I meant I will stay in the most of the time and study, so I had so much stress which trigger my Tourette syndrome, I started to push down my stomach and hold my breath for a few secs for months. I started to notice that I did some serious damage to my belly and stomach, I had a hard time using the bathroom and I could not eat. Starting in Oct, I felt really sick and was thinking I was gonna die for three months, I was in the emergency room multiple times, and I thought my pain was neck pain since I write down notes a lot, but I think it was due to my belly. I was vomiting and just did not understand the cause of this. Now I do. For the last three months, I had not eaten any good food, feeling hot on my heart area and chest also in the back, especially whenever I sit down or lay down, no bowel movement for days and I am just really scared. I am sure what caused this was I was pushing down my belly/stomach since I have tics all the time. Now I just want to live a normal life coz I feel like I am dying every morning. There is just toxic stuff sitting down at the bottom of my belly and that is the feeling I get every morning. I wish life was not meant to be like this. I am just unhappy because of this condition and it gets worse each day, I have an appointment this month but it is via zoom and I want to talk to a doctor face to face and tell them all of my problems. I just turned 18 and things are not going well, I just want to study computers and help others. 😭 I swear if this thing goes away, I will change my diet, prevent other things, and also learned lessons. I have never been sick this long since 2021 summer. Can't sleep at all and even eat my daily meal besides small and mini fruits, fiber, etc. 😭😭😭
At 7am every morning l am on the can! Being regular has made a big difference to me If nothing happens then l make adjustments to my day! Generally things are fine the next morning. Hello I happened upon your channel and I appreciate your insight and information. I am what tgey consider perimenopausal 😬🤦♂️, I mean I feel like a train wreck half the time lololol anyway lot of side effects of this stuff. Hormonal imbalance is tough 😢, I have belly weight gain, thinning hair loss, dry skin and eyes, always thirsty and low libido and constipation. 🤷♀️ yeah theres some good news 🤔🙄, so anyway I either have to drink a huge smoothie with virgin olive oil or drink a senna tea or sometimes drink prune juice or beet juice . I try to eat veggies but don't always. Avocado is a hige helper and ginger tea helps . If your desperate you can use casada sagrada that will pull everything through 😂. Anyway I eat bannanas to. Everything is such a learning process. These hot flashes are extreme to bad all this sweat you would think that I would loose some freaking weight but nope nothing . I get so frustrated but I will keep trying loose weight and be healthy. Take care everyone and God bless🙌💓🙏🏼✝️🧡🌈💐✌
I message my Colon every time I am constipated ( do not have bowel movement for a week) and it works every time. I have Ulcerative colitis. Much better than taking all those laxatives. , Sharon.
Whole food plant-based eating! My constipation only stopped when I gave up all dairy products. Cheese was the worst. Now, a daily bowl of oatmeal works wonders.
If one has run-of-the-mill chronic idiopathic constipation, "seek medical attention" is futile. You will hear "water, fiber, exercise" from every doctor, every visit -- no matter how many times you tell them you get plenty of each. You might get a prescription for $500-per-month probiotics. You might get a colonoscopy appointment. When neither of these resolve the issue, you will get "water, fiber, exercise"' again.
Well that would be disappointing Rachel. Is it possible you have a subtle motility disorder? Maybe seeing a gastroenterologist would help. Good luck. Thanks for watching and subscribing
@@TalkingWithDocs You're very welcome. Yes, I did see a gastroenterologist for the colonoscopy. Well, not exactly... I was only allowed to actually speak to her PA, who did wonder if it was a motility issue. (The colonoscopy itself showed no issues. I went over it with my GP and told her about the motility possibility. She again had no strategy other than "water, fiber, exercise." Maybe I just need a new GP.)
Hi planemod. Good question. Likely because if they are in diarrhea they will be expelled and have more of an opportunity to infect others and spread. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Seriously DOCUDRAMA? It’s a video about constipation. Pretty sure that next steps on the topic of suppositories would violate RUclips content standards.
Doctors are good in medicine, but not in RUclips Delivery. This was extremely boring, it didn't grab my attention, horribly explained, not enough information given on there next steps like suppository, like what the heck is that, horribly missed to explain this things. Gotta learn to engage your audience or its just boring doctor visit online.

Best of luck

I message my Colon every time I am constipated ( do not have bowel movement for a week) and it works every time.
I have Ulcerative colitis. Much better than taking all those laxatives. , Sharon.
Hi Sharon. Text message? We think you meant massage. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Whole food plant-based eating! My constipation only stopped when I gave up all dairy products. Cheese was the worst. Now, a daily bowl of oatmeal works wonders.
Yes Merry. Dairy is meant for baby cows. It seems so obvious. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Enulose syrup really helps alleviate constipation and softens it. You do need a prescription and it tastes like pure sugar but really helps.
Nice Craftyladaybug411. Thanks for watching and subscribing
8 oz of magnesium citrate. Probably best not to stray too far from the house that day though. 😉

The music playing in the background makes it difficult to understand what the doctors are saying.
Sorry to hear that Tom Tom. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Sophisticated modern look…nice….had to chuckle a few times with the remarks …. makes this topic a little more “palatable”?
Ha Linda. Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Poop stool in front of toilet really helps to pass stool .
Especially as I get older…. A pop a day is my norm… I pay more attention to my prevention!
Hi Carleen. Nice! Thanks for watching and subscribing
OH! New music! Sorry can't watch anymore with you speaking over some kind of music that you might like but others many not. What is the point please?
Hi Kathy. Sorry you didn’t like the music. The point - trying to be creative we guess.
Eat a big salad and lots of veggies every day.
Avoid cheese and dairy.
Yes Kenz300x! Thanks for watching and subscribing

Why don't pathogens cause constipation instead of diarrhea?
Hi planemod. Good question. Likely because if they are in diarrhea they will be expelled and have more of an opportunity to infect others and spread. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Don't care for the floating notes
Sorry about that jill. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Seriously DOCUDRAMA? It’s a video about constipation. Pretty sure that next steps on the topic of suppositories would violate RUclips content standards.
Ha Libbyann. There will be no follow up video 😁. Thanks for watching and subscribing
@@TalkingWithDocs Well that’s a relief. Although if anyone can do it, you gentlemen can! Happy Trails.
How about just adopting a plant based diet!??
Yes mpdeshowitz. We agree. Thanks for watching and subscribing
When I get constipated, I watch a Donald Trump speech, then I'm shittin' like an old cow. A side effect is that I also vomit.
That’s funny chad. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Vegans go four times a day. Eat more plants.
Yes they do Matteo. Thanks for watching and subscribing
Sorry to hear that. Will try and do better next time. Thanks for watching anyway
These two doctors look really unhealthy and it is noticeable that they do not exercise.
Hi Pablo. We enjoyed your mirror selfie flexing. Way to go! Thanks for watching and subscribing
