I have been taking Mira Lax for years and still having bouts of constipation and then diarrhea for about 4 days. After having a colonoscopy, the doctor stated that I needed to start taking Metamucil. I have been taking it for about a month and have found that I have been having regular bowel movements and they have the correct density. I did not know that it reduces cholesterol so I found your information to be very enlightening. Thank you for discussing this topic.
I have very high LDL but low triglycerides and eat super healthy and I'm a triathlete that trains 5-6 days a week. Will not take statins though, so happy to try alternatives
Another great subect. I had high holesterol for 4 years, and start taking Metamucil January this year, within 3 months my cholesterol went to normal levels and I lost weight. In my case I cut off sugar ( I buy the orange (no sugar added) from Costco ( great deal ), stick to low carbs food. In time you can re adjust the dose as your body changes.
It took me two months to build up to one tablespoon of psyllium husk - just had a strong GI reaction to it. The other thing that has been interesting has been weight loss, similiar the descriptions of GLP1 angonist. I still eat sweets, but just don't feel like eating much of it. I will eat one or two cookies now, not eight. I'm not trying to "control" myself, it just happens.
I’ve been taking one tablespoon per day for a couple of years and it’s really helped calm down some bowel problems. I will say I’m also a bit sensitive to the acid contained in the orange flavoring, but just drink around a glass and a half of water helps, as does not drinking it around bedtime.
So, what is your professional assessment of high cholesterol? There are many thoughts on this topic. I myself have had high cholesterol for decades, which is familial. No meds for it as I choose not to at this time.
We look to the decades of evidence that show it is directly related to cardiovascular disease. There have been many developments to help understand the role of cholesterol, lipoproteins, apoB, LPa, particle size, oxidation and inflammation. There are many variables. And there have been some studies that get taken out of context to create conspiracy and distrust. The bottom line is that high cholesterol is a problem. If people choose to ignore that they will likely suffer negative health consequences
@TalkingWithDocs I've been on a KETO type of diet for several years. I've always been keen on Mediterranean type of diet prior to KETO. Neither of the diets has changed my cholesterol numbers. I asked my Myao doctor to test for the particle size, but she didn't think it was necessary, and she wasn't concerned with my total cholesterol count. So, that is baffling? Your thoughts?
I was told that the body makes cholesterol for the body to work properly.. For brain function..For healing...its always there when you have injuries like heart attack So it’s really there to help.. If you don’t eat a proper human diet it’s there to help fix inflammation in your body.. So why is it so bad..?
Chia seeds are highly nutritious, boast a long list of health benefits. Let them sit in water for half hour and you can mix them with whatever you like.
I take 15 g of psyllium husk everyday and I have never noticed any difference in my cholesterol, by the way, my cholesterol is high, and I'm not concerned, I do take it to support My gut bacteria
Can you provide a link to trials that show decreasing LDL also decreases CVD? I have seen conflicting info by Dr Ken Berry MD here on RUclips saying that is false. So I want a link with actual info. I did not see any links to such info in your description.
Dr Berry is an interesting choice as he is someone that has trouble with his license in the past and works hard to choose very controversial topics to increase his views and book sales. There is no single piece of evidence but rather a summary of 50 years of evidence. It’s much more nuanced than cholesterol is not a problem. People nowadays don’t listen to the facts but rather listen to the person who is the loudest. Here is a link to the Canadian guidelines which is based on a decades long summary of data. At the end of the day you can choose to do whatever you like with your cholesterol. Dr Berry will hold no responsibility for your health. Hope this helps. www.onlinecjc.ca/article/S0828-282X(21)00165-3/fulltext
I'll use it with low fiber foods. A youtuber had a video about how bad it can clog the gi track if too much is taken. 15 grams is an ok amount. Not sure of a dangerous amount
Both contain lead, esp. Metamucil. I take psyllium husk as it helps control my IBS, it also has lead but Metamucil has been found to have about the most. Haven't had a blood test since I started about a year ago so don't know what its doing to my cholesterol but my blood pressure is down considerably (doing a lot of other things too, like lots of walking).
High cholesterol counts is not a bad thing It is the cholesterol which originates from sugar and carbs is what's dangerous. It is that type of cholesterol which penetrates into the arteries. So the best thing t do is to reduce or eliminate carbs ad sugar. It's that simple and not complicated. And, the reduction of sugar and carbs can also reduce night time bathroom urges.
It’s actually not that simply. Cholesterol is cholesterol. It doesn’t come from sugar or carbs. We agree though refined carbs and sugar are bad for you. Our bodies make it. Triglycerides are created from excess sugar and indirectly this can lead to cholesterol synthesis. The issue is actually the lipoprotein that is attached to. Cholesterol isn’t floating around free in our vessels. Unfortunately there is so much misinformation that the average person is left wondering. Bottom line is that all research has shown that elevated cholesterol is bad for you. That’s the simple part
@@TalkingWithDocs I’m curious to hear your thoughts on my situation with my blood sugar being around 100 but I have really low triglycerides in the 50s/60s. What do you think is going on?
@@TalkingWithDocs "All research" hasn't shown that at all. @@TalkingWithDocs Thank you very much for your reply, and love all your videos. I got this information from Dr. Lustig, who is also on RUclips. What he said is that the LDL cholesterol which originates from sugar and carbs are much smaller, and that type of cholesterol is the most dangerous because they can penetrate the arteries. People on the carnivore diet also have high cholesterol, but it has been proven that most of them do not have, or have very kittle heart issues because the cholesterol that they have is in the safe locations of the body. In addition, even though most if not all of the cholesterol originates in the liver about 30 percent of it is in the brain, necessary for brain function. If too much is reduced then the brain it can suffer also, potentially causing dementia. This is why my cardiologist took me off a certain statin and placed me on a different statin, because the one I was taking has been proven cause dementia So it is said that even too little cholesterol, as well as too much bad cholesterol can run havoc for brain functionality.
I suppose everyone is looking for the 'magic pill', personally I am very skeptical about supplements UNLESS I discuss them with my Doctor. (btw, I mentioned your channel to a Doc here in Vancouver at VGH & he's eager to subscribe!)
Chia seeds are high in soluble fiber and the omega-3 fatty acid, alpha-linolenic acid-both heart-healthy ingredients that can help keep your lipid levels in check.

Very nice
Great. I take rosuvastatin and metamucil every day. (I wasn't aware until recently that statins should be taken at night time, not in the morning.) 👍
Went on a whole food plant based diet and lowered my cholesterol
Yes that’s a great idea
Psyllium Husk should ve taken prior to large meals - true story.
Often used as a strategy
That Metamucil will certainly keep you regular! And when you gotta go, you gotta go - there’s no screwing around.
Lol, you are correct!
🤣
For sure

My doctor advised Metamucil to avoid polyps. None since I started taking it.
Yes it has direct benefits to reduce the risk of colon cancer like all fiber

Minute 12:25 is important. I had to rewind to make sure I got the message there.
Yes it can affect absorption of some meds
Metamucil also comes in capsule form...so no night bathroom problems
Metamucil contains artificial sweeteners, colour dyes, flavour additives and other junk additives, that should really be avoided.
Thanks for sharing
The gummies certainly do. Just take psyllium.
Thanks for information
Welcome
How does Metamucil compare with oatmeal for lowering cholesterol?

Hmmm. There are other natural sources of fiber. Fiber is the key

Yes don’t take too much and lots of water for sure
What about Metamucil gummies, which are inulin? Same effect as psyllium husk?
Yes depending on the dose
Take two heaping spoons (~12g) per day on recommendation of my GI doc.
Nice
Two heaping teaspoons mixed with a pint of cold water every afternoon. Tastes like Tang and creates the greatest dirt snake.
🤣
i stopped taking it for about 6 months because I could only get the sugar one and don't like sugar and my ldl went up 10 to 99...
Oh man

Dr. Zakzal , do you take a statin ?
