    I used the duplicolor ceramic engine paint on my 408 LS a couple years ago. The thing still looks like the day it was painted! Good stuff

    heating up the block outer surface a spot at a time with a torch can help turn water inside the pores to steam and wick them out to the surface to be wiped away, helping paint retention a bit more.
    glad to see you didn't paint the inside of the block--it never does what people think.

    • @Aidansbuilds
      @Aidansbuilds  Год назад +2

      Good advice, also helps remove excess oils and stuff! As far as painting the inside goes, I think if it is applied PROPERLY (meaning BAKING to cure it) it does help a little bit, but in my opinion not worth the potential risk. Search up "Jafromobile" on RUclips, he actually does a pretty good in depth look at the process and benefits! Thanks for watching!

      @@Aidansbuilds well, the problem with painting internal surfaces is, you have to prep them...and doing so gets rid of the sand you're trying to hold in. and you won't smooth anything with paint, so you have to grind it down...which means you already smoothed the surfaces. as for any rusting during storage, you can overfill the crankcase or just turn it regularly and oil will repell water--ever crack open a sealed engine from the junkyard and find rust?
      if it's a real problem, then paint the heads--which few ever do. but then you have to paint the springs and piston rings and bearings since they rust--and no one's going to do that. so it becomes a non issue. just rotate the engine every now and again to take pressure off the valve springs, and cycle the oil thru it and the oil film will repell water.

    Hi, since I'm not so familiar with chevy engines and haven't done the stroking yet, I have some questions and hope to get some tips from you, since I want to build my engine from scratch. First of all, congratulations on the great job and the cool videos
    To my question, is the 496 based on the 454 engine? I read somewhere that the 454 is available as a 4 bold main, does the 4bold automatically have a 2pice seal. Is the one piece seal worse or are there problems with the one piece ? Which camshaft would you choose if you have both a good idle and sufficient vacuum for the brake booster, the power from 650-700 RPM idle to the end of the revs really pushes the car forward, but also does not lose too much power in the upper revs ?

    Love this video ! I also just subbed. Where did you buy your stroker kit from ? I was thinking of using Scat engines myself. Keep up the great work.

      Thanks Keith I appreciate it! I bought the stroker kit from CNC Motorsports, greqt customer service too! If you are in Canada like me the import charges were pretry substantial, just a heads up! Thanks for watching!

    I have a similar method for prep. 1. after getting it back from the machine shop, i run a tap in every bolt hole to remove anything that may be in them that could screw up torquing the bolts. 2. then i spray it with soap and water. I prefer Dawn dish soap. and a good stiff bristle brush and scrub it down. and take a brush to all the oil passages and cylinders. ,3 Rince with water and blow it dry and hit the cylinder and lifter bores, cam bearing bores and main bores with wd40 to keep them from rusting. 4. install freeze plug and cam bearings and oil gally plugs, then i hit the areas I am going to paint with acetone to remove anything that could be left over. 5. finally mask and paint.

    I watched all the videos. I did not hear you talk about the machining on the block. What do you recommend for a 800hp build. And my second question is do I need a crankshaft and rods to see if the rods will hit the block?. Because I heard it takes some machining for clearance.

    • @Aidansbuilds
      @Aidansbuilds  11 дней назад

      I did not talk much about the machining because I had a shop do it, but all it had done to it is get bored .60 over. Depending on your crank/rod combination you may end up with block interference, luckily I did not. This is something you will have to assemble to find out, some people grind the block and some people grind the rods. As far as what I would recommend for 800hp, there may be blueprints online with people who have achieved that, you will probably want higher compression pistons and an actual performance cam. Goodluck with the build!

    Looks awesome so far. Did you have to clearance/grind the block any for connecting rod clearance?

    • @Aidansbuilds

    Just asking, but why didn't you have the machine shop dip it and clean it there? Price? Preference?

    • @Aidansbuilds
      @Aidansbuilds  Год назад +4

      The machine shop actually does dip and clean it but since they aim to be a little more environmentally friendly, whatever they use to do it isn't as efficient as it used to be. I stripped most of the paint off the block before bringing it to them and whatever they do didn't get 100% of what was left off! I also clean it just to make sure theres nothing left over in the cylinders or oil/cooling passages from the machining process. Thanks for watching!
