My daddy was a southern Baptist minister for small churches near Augusta Ga. I remember going to our members house for Sunday lunch. Something they also invited other family’s to dinner. Everyone brought their special receipt. The food was always good & plentiful. One time I told mama that my plate didn’t need washing because I had licked it clean. Daddy & mama we’re graduate of Moody Bible Seminary in Chicago He was a great preacher. Always true to Gods Word. They often sang during the service. I miss them every day. God bless & keep you in His tender care.
Memau from Georgia
A sweet childhood
I loved church potlucks. I always had my favorites and would scan the tables for them.
I was raised just outside Chicago where Moody Bible Institute is located. One of my pastors was graduated from Moody. The best part was they had a radio station, WMBI. At that time they aired the recorded claa s students took. Mom had it on all day and I received an incredible Bible based education as a result. I base what I hear from pastors and teachers yet today. God’s Word never changes!
Blessings📖
The reason you can’t find this recipe anywhere else is because no one can tell the story to go with it like you do. That looks DELICIOUS! Bless you!
My Gramms taught me to grease and "flour" my baking pans with powdered sugar or, if making a chocolate cake, cocoa powder. That way you never get a mouthful of flour if you got too heavy handed.
This is what they teach pastry chefs, btw...
Sage advice. Thank you for sharing. HUGS and GOD bless us everyone
Stealing this tip! Thanks :)
Nestle’s Quik! Yes, that’s what we used, and it made the edges much prettier. Hardly see Nestle’s Quik anymore. 😕
I have done the cocoa powder before, but I never heard about the powdered sugar. May have to try that. Sounds like it’s better than flour. Nestlé‘s quick may be even better than cocoa. Thank you for sharing that tip.
I stopped eating sugar and wheat and my health has greatly improved, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying your videos 💕
Ditto. Becky's videos are worth watching for the Bible teaching.
Convert you recipes to low carb so many options out there now
Awesome. Wish I had the willpower. I do not like sugar in our regular food, like bread, etc. Just can’t take that processed sweet flavor., so if I stay away from chocolate, I’m pretty good with avoiding sugar.
Your final words brought me to tears. These are such uncertain times and sometimes we just need to be reminded that God is in control. Thank you for a wonderful recipe And great words of Encouragment. God Bless.
Thank you your words has just encourage me
I wish everyone who knows God would just stand up while we can
Aww that’s beautiful! I totally understand!
Wow, I was also in tears at the scripture passage and reading your comment I sm in tears sgain.
🙏🏽💕🕊️🙏🏽
So very true!!!🙏
You are adorable and also straight forward, making things seem simple to do, yet so delicious. I love that you share the gospel of Jesus Christ in every video. I really enjoy your videos, your presentation, your kitchen, and your beautiful hair! You are truly a beautiful daughter of God!
Thank you for your kind words, it means more to me than you will ever know. God bless you!
Amen to that! ❤❤❤❤
I LOVE IT that you have the Pledge of Allegiance up on your cabinet door! God Bless your home. Boy I'd like to have you as a neighbor.
Thank you and God bless you Tami!
Me too, a sister would be great too
This is so much fun, and I'm thinking I am going to make it for our preacher. He's an 82-year-old man who is still actively preaching in our little church.
Thank you for this recipe. I forgot about this one. My grandchildren have never had this. I'm going to give them a treat and tell them the story. 🙏💨❤. Preacher Sunday always meant Mother's banquet. We were gonna eat till our bellies hurt. 😊 I always add about a 1/4 cup cream to that frosting. It is so good on a chocolate or spice cake too. The best way to spread the gospel is walk the talk. Says so much more then words. Be blessed in everything you set your hands to.
Thank You! I did volunteer work in an assisted living home during the hurricane Rita days. There was a lady that was moved from New Orleans to the facility in Houston when I was there. She gave us this cake recipe. She couldn't remember the name so we called it BonnaJeans Nut cake, as that was her name.. Delicious recipe. She knew it by heart. What a sweet lady she was. Great memory.
..... Don't y' all just love Becky....???! she says " you got to get that out of there , it's DONE ..." ....priceless. I do believe my grandmother used to make this cake but I've only made it one time and it's been many years and so that is this is wonderful to remind us of these wonderful recipes...
.... You know don't you just love it back in the days when people would just drop by to visit you know it was just so nice to have people just come visit and I think that so much is changed in the world with that it's actually disheartening to me....I am almost 67 , and I remember when People were just drop by and just come and visit for a little bit or else they would stay for supper and things like that ..... I really miss that part of life... wonderful video as always, Miss Becky. 🙏🏻😊💛
Yes ma'am, I agree with you 100%.
1
I remember, too, and those days were wonderful 💕
My granddad was a Pentecostal minister so they always had a banana pudding made in case any of the church members dropped by. He was known for his wonderful banana pudding. My mother always made a little extra for dinner and usually had a dessert ready in case someone dropped by. Now a days you visit over a dinner at a restaurant.
I remember my mom would make up a big batch of hot cakes if unexpected people came over and stayed to dinner time. There were six of us, and there were hardly left overs from lunch. Those hot cakes were wonderful and filling.
Sometimes I will save the paper wrappers from a stick of butter or margarine in a plastic bag in the freezer. They're great to have on hand when you have to grease a pan.
Good idea!
Yes, my mother taught me this
Mom would use a little piece of wax paper...
Great idea!!
I’ve never heard of this! Awesome idea!
I love your channel. I was in the generation of “grease and flour” the pan. I still do. We never went out to dinner, unless it was a special occasion and my mom never bought the snack cakes that were available then. I can hardly wait to try this recipe. Thank you for your message to put God first. God’s blessings.
Thanks for sharing with us, God bless you!
We never went out to dinner unless we were doing potluck with friends.
I member my Nanny makin this on Saturday evening getting ready for Sunday dinner . I miss them so much . Ty for the memories
God Bless You ALL in Jesus Name Amen
Praise Jesus!!!
We shall see them in heaven, if they too were believers.
What a glorious day that will be!
Yes, praise our LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST. Like you, I miss my grandparents very much and rejoice that someday, hopefully soon, we will be raptured and be rejoined with them in our Eternal Home (which is secondary to being finally home with Our LORD and Out Almighty GOD YAHWEH, of course)! May the gospel be preached far and wide. That is our great commission from none other than Jesus Christ! †
This cake was a part of our big family dinners to. I lost my last grandparent in 2016. My Grandma was my life.
@@kathleennorton6108 AMEN , sister!
Loved this video video. My husband is from Kentucky (Appalachian Mountains) and he will love this story and definitely this cake. He is from the Isaacs Family (yes the famous Isaacs in Nashville are his first cousins) and is constantly sharing his stories with me and my family about the log cabin his Grandma and Grandpa help raise him in and how she was always making food for everyone in case they all ventured up the Hill for supper. We now are part owners of the old cabin in the Isaacs Hill and have our family reunions there. Last visit I met about 250 first cousins 😱 and the Singing Gospel Isaacs were there with us what a thrill for this City Girl from Maryland. My Momma started teaching me from the time I could stand on a chair position next to the space of our kitchen sink and stove explaining every single food she was putting into that huge pot of soup or roast that was going in the oven for hours. She especially got a thrill out of cutting small pieces of the vegetables, carrots 🥕, celery , potatoes 🥔, turnips , cabbage 🥬 for me to try before they spent hours on the stove on a slow simmer. Well I now love cooking, baking etc for my new Kentucky Husband ( we are still Senior newlywed’s of 31/2 years at age 70 ) travel all over this world now that Covid has left the building, 😂, and are amply Grateful to God every single day that at this late stage in our lives He was so Loving and Awesome to put us together so that our Golden Years (sometimes rusty , lol 😂,) won’t be lonely but Blessed with the sharing of God’s most precious gifts, Life , Love and Hope. Thank you so much for your videos, your sharing of your stories and your love for Our Lord. Have a Blessed and Safe Weekend ❤😊🙏🏼😍🥰😌🙏🏼❤️
I’m going to try this cake for my Church picnic this Sunday! Isn’t God Awesome? We need to praise him every day!
YES! One of my favorite recipes. I'm the wife of a preacher, daughter, AND granddaughter! I like to add a handful of raisins or craisins some times too!
Yes....craisins
That sounds delicious..
I love to replace raisins with craisins....that is if I don't feed them all to my lil dog! Lol
He absolutely loves them! Who knew?!
GOOD STORY BECKY. WE LOVE YOU SISTER. GOD BLESS YOU BECKY & FAMILY IN JESUS NAME.
How about in YESHUA's name? 😘
@@jackiebourg6869 His Name is Jesus.
Yummy old fashioned goodness! Had not thought that the current generation did not know how to prepare a cake pan. Time flies!
My grandma made this cake all the time when we'd drive up to Ohio to see her. We'd drive through the night in the snow and wind and she'd have this waiting when we got there. She'd always let me have seconds, even when my mom said no. I miss her every day. I've been looking for this cake everywhere. Thank you so much. I have no doubt I'll cry when I taste it again.
Also, our “staple desserts” were pineapple upside down cake, caramel cake and peach cobbler... and baked oatmeal cookies 😋
Oh my, all favorites!😂
Love this “Put God First” Amen🙌💜🔥✝️😍
I have this cake recipe written out in little journal-type book from 40 years ago and my mom made it years before this. It brings back good memories.
What a treasure from the past!!
This recipe reminds me of Hummingbird cake. Whatever it's called, it's so yummy.
I was just going to say the same thing. 😊
It's the same result
Sounds a lot like what we called friendship cake.
Yep that's what we call it; hummingbird cake
I was going to say the same! Haha
you are correct about the amount of desserts people had back in the day, i have noticed back in the day there was not alot of obesity even though there was lots of desserts, not as many desserts nower days but looks at the obesity problems shows there is alot of additives in todays food
@Y Ddraig Goch Thank you for sharing those precious memories, and for sharing your faith in the future promises of Jesus Christ.
I was thinking the same thing. People had to work hard then and were never inside like the young now. I know I had to make mine go outside, you certainly didn’t have to make me.
Not to mention kids with food allergies my granddaughter being one of them.
@@cynthiastark7258 never had to make us kids go outdoors, romp in the woods, journey making new trails, learned where each different ( and there were many) wildflowers, plants and berries.
Now ya can't get them outa bed or off the stupid tech games etc.
Inactivity does that.
I highly recommend your channel to everyone who is looking for great basic meals, traditional American dishes ...like Mom used to make! Your down to earth style is perfect for even beginners or cooks who need confidence, thank you
Love that you gave story time to give us information on how the cake got it's name. Always like knowing details.
Just to let you know, I made this wonderful Preacher Cake and I'm here to tell you all, it is DELICIOUS!
My family LOVED IT as it is loaded with great ingredients because one piece of it is a like meal within itself!
Thank you for sharing this great recipe with us all!
Always a happy grin when you show up! Lord Bless you Becky!!!
Thanks. I saved this recipe for this weekend! I enjoy you verses at the end!
I will remember to put God 1st.
God bless you!
I genuinely love the stories you tell while you're making recipes. Stories of the past, the history of the recipe or of your family. Very heartwarming.
God bless you ❤️
Having just lost my mother (94 years old), in January, this brought back so many memories of my childhood. Both of my grandmas as well as my mother always had some kind of home made baked goods in the kitchen. They never measured out anything, but yet everything was perfect and delicious. Baking was an art form for them and they were experts at it. (My unbiased opinion 😁). Thank you so much for reminding me of the good times, and thank you for sharing your faith with all of us. You now have a new subscriber.
Your channel blesses my soul.
My mother cooked just like you and I have never met anyone who cooks like this. (she has hillybilly roots but I grew up in WA state)
On top of the beauty of you capturing this culture, the gentle way you share gospel truth is edifying. ❤️
Nicely said.
You brought back alot of memories with this recipe. My mom & grandma were excellent bakers. Each weekend one of them would bake a sheetcake. The first CAKE I made at age 9 was shortcake for my daddy on Fathers Day.
Oh Goodness, I love a carrot sheet cake with lemon cream cheese icing...
You could easily make this a wonderful carrot cake. Simply finely grate a cup of carrot and add enough carrot baby food to equal what looks like a 14oz can of pineapple in juice. Delicious! I still grease and flour pans.
@@SoCalRvca I do as well. Only took 1 time of me messing up an expensive cake w/ those "non-stick" pans to teach me! Lol
I love that Wilton quick release.
Ooh!!,please share this recipe!!
Ooh! Please share this recipe
Ooooh! Excellent idea w the lemon!
Ohhh my goodness, Miss Becky!!! I can't wait to try this recipe!! My whole stove is completely gone out and on very limited income I'm probably going to have to rent-to-own one as I have had to do with our last two refrigerators. First I've got to see if we're going to have to move. We've been here about 18 years renting and our landlady, a precious 90 year old Christian lady passed on February 17th and was laid to rest yesterday. I've known her and her husband and family since I was a child and I'm 62 now. My husband works for her youngest son but it's going to be up to their eldest son whether we have to move or not. I hope not because I've come to think of it as home and it's convenient to everything. Hospital, stores, etc. Please say a prayer for us. I love you and your channel so much. Your messages are very uplifting and your recipes are amazing. Thank you for all and God bless you and your family!!! 🙏🏼💕
I hope you are OK?❤
Such a sweet story to go along with a delicious cake for Sunday dessert, thank you!
I have that recipe. I got it in 1993 from a little 90 year old lady in the small town of Cross Plains,Texas. BUT, it was known in that area as
“The Chop Suey Cake” it is so good. I will be making it again! Have a Blessed Day!
You are such a good cook. I have been cooking for more years than I care to admit but I always learn something from you. God bless you. ❤❤❤
You're a national treasure. Thank you for your wisdom.
Becky, I have just recently discovered your videos and I love watching you. You make my heart smile and I have already made several of your recipes. You are an amazing person. God Bless You.

We are all in need of goodness of the Lord God. Thank you for spreading gospel and good food from your sweet spirit and sweet home. God bless you and yours in Christ?
It was called showing your guests hospitality , ladies kept some form of desert at the ready to offer with coffee, hot tea , lemonade , iced tea for refreshments.
grandmothers will make things for their kids and grandkids. I do it. It make me happy that they still want my stuff. I taught my daughter to cook and my granddaughter is also learning to cook very well too. we all use seasonings. like try some chilli powder in your spegetti sauce. It is good. thanks for the show
I give thanks and praise to God for you and your family. May the Lord continue to bless you as you are blessing us. It is so good to hear about the Lord as He puts the joy of living into our lives, especially in times like these. Lots of love in the name of our Saviour, Jesus.
So close to Humingbird cake! Preacher Cake has to be unbelievably wonderful.
I make hummingbird cake very often, and even make my own cake mixes with the dry ingredients. I freeze ripe bananas measured out in the correct quantities for the recipe. There are few differences in this recipe and that one. There is a small can of pineapple (8 oz) rather than 20 ounces, no coconut, one and a half teaspoons instead of 2 of vanilla extract and salt. One teaspoon baking soda, and add 2 cups diced ripe bananas. There are optional nuts in a few recipes, but not in my recipe. This is my family's favorite dessert.
Ms. Becky,
Please include your teaching and 'preaching' in your videos!!!!
We Need God every Day!

What a great cake, told my mom about it, she told me when she was in her 20’s she is now 65, she made a cake like that but it was called A Best Ever Cake, and it was absolutely delicious. ❤️
This is my new "go to" cake! Delicious! Thank you for sharing the stories. I watch these videos for the stories as much as the recipe!
You have revived it in this grannies household! Thank you.
I really appreciate that you go over all the ingredients before you start the recipe.
My grandparents raised me and we always had desserts on the table at all times 😊 it’s something I can’t seem to do without now 😅
Gosh ... Desert every other night, sounds like heaven 🎈
😋
I just made your recipe of preacher cake, OMG it is Wonderful , I did get your cook book, and have tried the fried green tomato's they turned out just like my grandma used to make, I am looking forward to your next cook book , God's Blessings.
Thank you for buying my book, I hope you enjoy it and I appreciate your support. God bless you!
You always make me smile with the stories and some of the things you say, "being a preacher is a hard job and it deserves a good cake"! I love that! 😃
Like so many of us viewers have said, the stories are such a special part of the videos! That reminded me how, when I was a little kid I used to love to spend time around the adults and listen to them tell stories about the old times 💖
So delicious! And cream cheese icing is my favorite. Nothing better than a homemade cake. Thank you Becky for your stories and you blessings. I look forward to your message from our Lord. 🙏
Sounds like a awesome Southern Baptist dinner on the ground desert.
My wife (passed away 2 years ago) was from St Lucia in the Caribbean. She used to make a cake like that but she added rum. She called it rum cake LOL
I generally add flavored bourbon (Jim Beam) to many cakes. Love rum as well. It really makes a difference; yum!🙋
@gg Bice.
How much bourbon do you add to a cake recipe like this one??
You hair is very pretty & you want to look nice for
presentation, but it misrepresents how hair should at least be up & away from hanging over the food.
For those learning to cook, it would be cool to at least show that.
My country grannys Never wore their hair down in the kitchen...you couldn't get anymore country than they were 🥰
LOL I also think the same thing makes me nervous seeing her hair down like that. A month or so ago we were at Little Caesars pizza and this very nice young man was back cutting up pizza's with long dreadlocks very pretty but his hair kept swaying over the pizza's he was cutting up. Anna In Ohio
Rum + not, vanilla essence yumy.
😍YUMMY! and Amen ...thank you for sharing this recipe. God's blessing over you and your family
This reminds me a lot of the cakes that my grandmother and mother used to make. Mom made a 5-layer pineapple torte that was divine. Grandma Wentz's applesauce fruitcake is not to be missed. I liked it so much that Mom would make two for the Christmas holiday and freeze one for my birthday. I'm one of six kids so a sheet cake was a good thing because you could divvy it out and still have a little bit left for Dad's lunch or our after school snack the next day. Thank you for this recipe. I have never heard of this cake but I will be trying it. And thank you for having God with you in your kitchen. Did I mention I'm a preacher's kid? 😁
I’m in my 50s and remmeber the preachers ocming to our house for dinner two to three times a month. At least two. My mother went all out with fried chicken, Potato salad, vegetables, biscuits, iced tea and dessert
This cakes looks good!
Preachers cake is really good. Thanks for the recipe.
God bless you I love your stories
Reminds me of a fruit cocktail cake that I used to make all of the time for my family...I always had a cake, pie, cobbler or bread pudding ( using left over homemade biscuits I made fresh every meal with lard and buttermilk snd WLflour) in my kitchen...I had 5 children and my husband, neighbors and friends and they all liked to eat!!! Those were the good ole days and I miss them...♥️
Fruit cocktail cake is one of my all time favorite desserts, and we sometimes made it with canned peaches instead. The icing was one of the things that set it apart and made it so very good.

I'm quite new to your channel, but one thing's just occurred to me: how pleased I am that in any of the videos I watched thus far, there hasn't been NOISY MACHINERY! ♥️ When I'm watching a recipe that I'm looking forward to making but then the person hauls out one or more big appliances it's such a turn-off... Adds more complication and, of course, sometimes I don't have that appliance. I like to do things simple.
