  • *Note: Both Big Block Camaros are SOLD!
Cars aren’t just hidden in barns. In the latest episode, Tom spots a cinder block motorcycle shop from a sun-bleached Arizona highway and decides to investigate. Not only does he find a pair of Mopars resting in the desert, but they’re for sale. Do they compare to the Big-Block Camaros and Impala he discovers later on?

Hi all! We had a lot of interest in the 2 Big Block Camaros. We put the owners in contact with several of you and are happy to announce that both of them are SOLD If the Plymouth Duster or Impala convertible is still of interest to anyone we'd be happy to put you in contact with the owners. Thanks!

The big block Impala was interesting. I still own a '73 Caprice Classic 2dr hardtop, dark blue with a numbers matching 454 that I bought in 1987 from a seller in Arkansas. I tried selling it on eBay last year for $3000 and there were no takers. I have started to restore it. I took my wife to prom in it!
P.S. I am loving these episodes and I really appreciate you all doing them. I like listening to you, Tom. I watch a little bit, then I head back out to the garage to work on the restoration. Thanks!

No need to apologize for your English (not on my account anyway). I am with you, it is better that somebody from outside of the US buy and restore an old car in his own country, and then have fun driving it,---than to have it rot out in some field over many years in the US.

back in 1985 i was approached by a neighbor asking if i wanted to buy a 68 camaro for 100 bucks, i said i wanted to see it, he said well come out front, and check it out, went out there to find a 68 camaro hanging from a sling on an old wrecker, it had 1973 plates on it, we threw a battery in it and dumped some gas in the carb, fired up on 3rd try, i paid the 100 dollars and had them drop the car in my driveway, i spent 20 years working on that car, engine after engine, trans after trans, suspension parts upgraded, new vinyl top, new quarters, floor pans, whole frame off backyard restoration, then one day i just got tired of all the work, all the time spent and sold it, i love them cars, but that thing took so much of my time and money i just couldnt stand it any longer.

Nice to see folks that are ready to sell. In my case I have found that it is better to trade for a car of similar value ,and interests. Cost wise,I recall rebuilding my 442's powerplant in the early eighties, and cringing at the 1400.00 bill from the machine shop....lol..

I hope Hagerty continues to produce these video, which are simply first class! I wish that those who comment would pay attention to the videos. The locations of these cars are given and the Hagerty Price Guide is well known for its reliability. Don't tell us about the car your uncle had, just get out there and make an offer on something you've seen here or something barn find that you're working on.

great stuff, would like this channel even more if there was footage included about working on the cars, start-ups after decades of sitting are great to watch. Personally I'm not a concourse condition kind of guy, I like 'em best in original good condition. I want these cars to drive, to see them on the road, not to sit in a museum or a private collection, only to be driven to an event on a trailer. That's why I don't like seeing some of them cars skyrocketing in prices. It takes them off the road and traffic these days is boring as hell so we need them.

These Hagerty values have very little to do with the Classic car market they are far to low, That 71' Charger SE 383 Mag restored well and sold at good car show would sell for much more than that. And other cars that have been on the show would also, I don't think they really understand what these car can go for, it seems they just give their low balling insurance value ! I'm sure they think the price Mopars and Big Block Fords and GM's are getting is crazy !

+marky mark The beauty of this series is precisely for the reason you give. There are a multitude of car shows out there which use the same format of some hyper douche with an ego problem and minimal real experience who is more interested in himself than the machinery and who shows little respect to the owners of these wonderful collections. Maybe you should stick with those. No offense.

They have a '69 camaro SS with the insanely rare 427(wikipedia indicates a max of around 1,000 made, the owner says closer to 1,500) that was confirmed to be in the car when sold. Completely beautiful condition and he also put on a supercharger, uses it as a drag car, and once saw him drive around town in it

In MOST places in the world a car left sitting outside for long is going to be junk; in the desert southwest however you can find many restoration worthy cars sitting in driveways and back yards for years and years. Just a couple of blocks from my house in Las Vegas sits a red 1969 Ford Ranchero with faded paint that I noticed when I moved to this house 30 years ago. It hasn't moved in all that time and while it certainly isn't in better shape than it was when it was first parked in that driveway, very little in the way of rust has occurred to that car since. it's still a nice example of a straight 1969 Ranchero with faded red paint.

Hey Tom, what would the oldest 1968 Camaro be worth in good condition? When I saw it, it was a red convertible with a white top and a 396. The VIN number production sequence had all zeros with a "1" at the end.

I saw it (the very first 1968 Camaro) in Bellevue Washington during the 1980s at a body shop. It was at the body shop, not because it had been in an accident, but so that they could straighten out the kinks in the body associated with being the very first car off the production line. They let me look at the VIN number on the dashboard. Sure enough, it had a bunch of zeros with a one at the end!

I see you have the seen the seen the same problem most people have on the "barn find" when you ask about the title first, You just cant do anything with a car with no paper work.... not even for parts, car may have been stolen at some tie in its life, you just don't know.

I seen a 1957 Chrysler 300c Hemi Convertible in my neighbors driveway, everyone always bugged her to buy it and she never let it go. her and her husband bought it new and got married in it so it was special and yes It sat right there for 47 years.. one day in the year 2004 I drove by and it was gone, I asked her were it went? she said i donated it to my church Lol.

Cool stuff, and naturally we don't see what happens off camera, but I think when buying cars like those you need to give them a much closer inspection. I could just see opening the trunk on the Charger to see the pan all rotted out, or the unibody on the Camaro absolutely crunched underneath the quarter panel(*). Probably the most solid cars in this episode were the DeSoto and the Duster. Granted, didn't see much of the Duster and the DeSoto did have the dash ripped apart (rewiring a car from the 50s is child's play, though, compared to today's cars), but they'd still be tough sells for me. I may be spoiled by living in the land of rust (NE US) but I guess that makes it easy for me to know what I can get into or not.

There's a small town about 3 hours north of Toronto called Coe Hill. And off of one of the ATV trails there are 2 or 3 older cars that are rusted and are between 1937-1948.

It only had about 220 HP - it was a smog era relic. You can find other actual muscle cars for less than that pig.

    • @ICECUBE682
      @ICECUBE682 7 лет назад +9

so what, it's not all about horsepower. and a "whale-era" impala is not really a muscle car. Let me tell you something first I will excuse my self for bad english and now I will list a few reasons why its so good. American cars just look amazing I love the design, the interior is nice and comftortable, 6 seater, comfy spacious leather sofas, its rwd, enormeus trunk, its convertible, it rides like a cloud, I fucking love one finger steering, its automatic (everybody knows americans are best at making them), it's better equiped than some NEW european shitboxes or the odler ones, its a big v8, great sound if modified exhaust or quiet like a rolse royce if you want to, pretty much indestructable, has character, I love the torque and the simplicity in the engine bay, I love pushrod v8s(small packaging but bid displacement, sound is better, lower center of gravity in the nose of the car...). I would kill for this impala or 1989 ford crown vic 302 with 140hp and kill several people for my dream car- 1971 or maybe 1975 cadillac sedan deville with 500ci or 1967 caddy eldorado 500ci. you americans just don't understand what you got and are rather scrapping this amazing cars or using them for demolition derbys. you were producing the best cars in the world until the 1990 and you are back at it after 2006ish. Let me put you to the perspective I hope you remember the positives about impala I just listed and I will describe you a typical euro car(doesn't matter new or old, different nations are usually making cars with same basic ingridients). cars over here usually look disgusting, we are still sitting our asses on cloth seats, no room, small trunk, they are equiped like caves, 90% are FWD, usually shitty manual with low gearing(no torque from shitty l4 engines), the sound makes me throw up, we mostly drive diesel cars, this impala is comftortable not like our hard suspension cars, 454 impala still has more torque and about 100 or more horspower more than average euro car, they are not really reliable, we still use drum brakes on the rear on some cars so impalas brakes are not really a disadvantage, the seating position is awkward and cramped unlike in USA cars... I'm sure I forgot a lot of things but anyway I'm trying to tell your cars are like they came from the other world they are so different I only wrote a few differences. I would trade my BMW for 1980 caprice 350ci in no time and in fact I will soon and in america you are selling them for 500 bucks and scrapping them but some of us just like cruising with these cars. Also check jamboolio yt channel if you would like to learn about huge american car culture in europe.

The big block Impalas are pretty rare. I used to own a 1970 Impala Custom Coupe with the LS-4 454.
Sure, it was a boat, but it was rather exciting when you really hit the gas. The two tons of car would roar, the front would lift and you'd leave twin streaks of rubber as long as you wanted thanks to the 500 ft lbs of torque and the 12 bolt posi.
I got 17 mpg on the freeway too. It had like 2.54:1 gears, and with the big tires you could wind it up to 90 mph still in second gear with no trouble. One night long ago, I raced a Mercedes on the highway -- I nearly had the speedometer buried -- he couldn't beat me and he gave me the thumbs up as we parted ways... :-)
Oh, and I bought the car for $1200. back in the day. The rarity is what brings the price up in today's market.

Like the show like the cars.... That being said non of these cars are a bargain really. In 2019, today's economy, the average Joe can't just drop 15k for cars like these. That's why all these cars are still setting. Owners asking 15k. Sure it's below appraisal. But no one is shelling that kind of dough out . 10 years goes by and tge owner is still wondering why it's not selling.... You want to move cars or not?? Sell them at 3,4,5k and move on!! Greedy mothers
