After two years of research, and because of this review I purchased the juki dx7. I am mighty new to machine sewing. I first purchased a little kids sewing machine and practiced, and to also to see if I would want to take up sewing, without wasting money if I decided not to. I am a very avid crocheter, and thought that learning to use a sewing machine would be a great enhancement with my crochet skills. Also, I've always wanted to be able to make my own outfits and quilts . I am by no means rich and it took me about 3 months to save up for the purchase of this machine. One of the reasons why I purchased this machine because I know that I cannot afford to purchase multiple machines, as my needs may grow, so I needed a really good quality machine that is going to last for quite some time. I look forward to growing and increasing my skills on this machine. My only concern is that if I ever do need maintenance, there aren't any places near me to obtain service. But I wanted to THANK YOU for a great review and helping me to make what I think was a good choice.
I bought this sewing machine because of your thorough review. Thank you so much! I didn't need the DX-7 because I have all the accessories and ordered the extension table separately and saved close to $600! Thanks again!!
That Juki sewing machine looks great and you must love it so much and what it can do. I became familiar with the Juki brand while working for the prison system here in Arkansas and the inmates who used it and the Singer machine loved it. The machine they had was the industrial model and they was only interested in sewing one type of stitch to take care of the clothing used by inmates. The Singer was an older model and did one thing also and I tried them both and got interested in sewing while working there. I thank you for sharing your experience on this Juki and wish you many years of great service with the ones you have.
Your review of this machine was so amazing! Very concise yet thorough without a lot of chatter and fluff. I was already considering this machine and found your review while doing my research. You pretty much sealed the deal for me and I bought it the next day! OMG this machine is DA BOMB! I even watched your review again two days after I got mine and had played with it a little to compare notes again. It is a dream to sew with and you've gained a loyal fan. THANK YOU!!!
My 47-yr old mechanical Kenmore has breathed its last breath. Your review of the Juki HZL-DX5 was excellent and made me see why this is the replacement machine for me!
Hi there, I love love this machine and your review is the best I have seen and I have seen loads! What do I like most, everything! My promise to myself is to buy one when the coved19 virus pandemic is over, if I am still alive. Take care of yourselves over in the States as we will in the United Kingdom. Pennie Homewood, 71 years old going on17! Xxxx
I have a Juki HZL-F600 and it's the best purchase I've made in a very long time! When I purchased it I was new to quilting and had not sewn anything in years, but wanted something good with lots of great features, even if I didn't know how to use them initially. It took me no time at all to learn to use those great features! Very easy and a dream! I use it almost every day. It's truly an amazing sewing machine!
So glad I found your review! I just purchased the DX5. I still have loads to learn about this machine’s features. My favorite hint from you, as a relatively new quilter, is using the regular/standard foot with the correct setting to maintain a 1/4” seam allowance.
I wish I had known about this fabulous Juki and your endorsement before I bought my Bernina two years ago. You're not the only sewist online who uses a Juki. I feel dumb. Thanks for sharing! (I love my Bernina but I also love my money).
Oh, Vanessa, you are a such gifted teacher! I don't know if I will ever order this great machine, but even if I don't, I have learned a lot about sewing machines from this tutorial. Thanks!
Tonight I learned more about my sewing machine than I've ever known before. And it's not a Juki!! You are very thorough and explain every little thing with precision. Thank you for this tutorial.
Vanessa I’m thrilled with my new Juki DX7 and this video has helped me customize my machine to make it my perfect sewing machine. You went into the presser foot height setting in tools and I thank you for that! As a matter of fact, I set up my knee lever to lift the presser foot to its highest height of 6.0 and I’m in sewing heaven. I was working with the walking foot and sewing through several layers of thick stretchy polyester, the regular automatic presser foot button (set on auto on my foot pedal) did not lift the presser foot high enough (only goes to 2.0) but then I pressed my knee lever and Walla! presser foot high enough (6.0) for ease of removing project! You are the best teacher! Thanks a million
I just bought this machine and your video was so easy to follow. It took away the anxiety of figuring out how this beautiful machine works. Thank you Vanessa!!
So nice to hear you say you get no compensation from Juki. Some times reviewers say they are not affiliated with the company but the item being reviewed was sent to them for free. If they want more free things from them or other companies that is a factor in the review (even if they think/try not). I don’t know if I would turn away free products, but I do wish people were more aware of the hidden influence that can have. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Hi Vanessa, after watching your reviews I decided to replace my old machine to Juki DX2000. I never regret buying the machine the quality of stitches and many features are awesome. Thank you again for your videos and stay safe.
I was in a sewing store today and saw this machine. I said I have to think about it and came home to watch some reviews. Thank you so much for doing such a great job on reviewing it I may be purchasing it soon.:)
Wow very impressive business there! New male sewist here. Been binge watching your videos. Very easy to follow along with. I just ordered the juki f400 to replace my singer heavy duty. I already have a juki serger and it's high quality
This machine looks amazing, I love all the features you are able to access through the foot pedal. This would be my dream machine for sure, it's loaded with all the bells and whistles that make sewing enjoyable. Thank you for your indepth review, I had no idea machines even had these many features...love love love it.
You’re such a great teacher! I am mesmerized on your tutorial. I have 2 sewing machine, one is a 25 years old Bernina & 15 years old Viking Embroidery Machine. I am considering an industrial & compuerized sewing machine. For my retirement, I am considering purchasing a Husqvarna Viking Epic 2 costing $17K. I have to trade in the old Viking Rose Embroidery Machine to get $2,000 off. Now, watching your tutorial, I will purchase this Juki as my back up sewing machine. Thank you for sharing.
I am paralyzed from the waist down and I discovered computerized sewing a year ago! All of the sewing buttons available right in front of you (without the foot pedal) is a complete game changer for handicapped users!! I never see that advertised or mentioned, so just FYI
this was perfect - the best review I have ever seen of a machine - showing the details of the various common settings was really helpful - other reviews really skim over this - I am in the market right now and have been looking at a few makes - I wasn't sure about Juki but you really have covered so many of the questions and it looks like it is so flexible to set up for your own needs - thanks again for taking the time to do this!!
Thank you so much for the video. I have the dx7 and you have explained the functions brilliantly ! I now us the heel of the foot control to raise and lower the foot, found Juki's video not as good as yours. Great informative video.
Thank you, I just ordered from Amazon because the site for Tim was not secure so I couldnt order. I wanted to give him my business. I love the reviews you do on all your machines. Thank you again.
Your video is so helpful. I just got a DX7 for my new mid-pandemic therapy: quilting. Your explanations are really clear, and information clarified a lot of things that felt confusing or intimidating. PS- I'm a former 352 resident so high five for that!
Hi Vanessa I just purchased the Juki dx7 after years of using Janome cost $1800. O on special 1500.00 wow the best machine by far love love it a class all on its own thank you for the tutorial Sydney down under
How do compare this model vs the F600? Could you please do a video that compares your favorite high end models? I like how you present and value your judgement.
Hello Vanessa, great video i love how you explain everything 😃👍even i am a seamstress with 45 years working in the garment industry. byw i purchased the juki dx7 in 2019 i love this sewing machine and i am a Gemini 🤣 greetings from Austria Chrissy
I think this (DX5 or the DX7) is going to be my upgrade from my $90 Brother mechanical machine. Incredibly helpful for this crafty Leo. Thank you for all of your detailed, thoughtful videos ❤️!
I've had my Juki DX7 for a little over a year now. I LOVE IT! It's a fabulous machine. I had a Bernina, but it was inherited and it was old. Still a very good machine but it just didn't have all the bells and whistles of the Juki. I'm totally in love with my Juki DX7! I would recommend it to anyone.
@@otealuajones8289 yes. I purchased it from a store called Sewing Machines Plus. They are out of California. I purchased it online through them and had it shipped to me. I also bought their extended warranty just in case.
FANTASTIC VIDEO!!!!!!!!! I have the DX-7, the DX2000QVP and a HZL-F300, and all these machines feature similar functions, and some of them were kind of strange for me, but after watching these video, I was able to set the machines according to my preferred functions, and now I will practice so I can get familiar with those functions and the knee lifter. Thanks for your mastery in explaining these functions and features of these also fantastic machines!!!!!!!
My favorite feature and the reason I am upgrading is the ability to adjust the height of the presser foot for making thick bags. Right now I have to force my fabric through the presser foot and I am unable to obtain a nice even stitch. Thanks so much for this video.
Just bought the DX7 because of your review! You're an influencer, Vanessa! Thank you for this detailed demo of this amazing sewing machine. I'm going to have so much fun with it!
@@jhwilliams6550 I did! I've had it for over a year now. I've used it to sew garments, bags, and quilts. I love it! I don't remember what the differences are between the DX7 and the F600. I think the DX7 is a newer model with a few extra bells and whistles. I don't think you can go wrong with either of these two. I'm excited for you!
@@2nywa2 thank you for replying. I think the hovering feature on the DX7 is the main difference. I also sew different things so that’s good to know you’ve been able to do that too. I just wish I had a dealer close by so I could try them out first.
I just found your videos. I am so impressed with your skills and knowledge. Your are a great instructor I wish I lived closer and take classes from you.
I’m only 1/2 way through the video and am seriously impressed with this machine! Wonderful features. I love my Janome machines for ease and reliability and the stitches appear the same. I don’t know about the price difference so can’t make a true comparison. I tried sewing on a Julie at a Sew Expo event and loved it. Looks like you made a wonderful choice!
Your videos are so informative. I love the way you explain things. I wish I saw this sooner as I just purchased a different brand that doesn’t have the bells and whistles this one does.
Thank you! I've had this machine for two years, will be checking my settings! Also did not know about the quarter inch setting. Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Invisible Commentator no not at all...I've been an industrial sewer all my life and very familiar with the juki name!!! Love my machine ! It has all the wonderful features an industrial machine has plus some!!
Brilliant review. I am a student sewer and I am looking for my next machine. Your reviews are so well thought out. I agree Juki should pay you. I am trying to decide between Juki and Baby lock. I don’t have a dealer for Juki but my niece lives near by Mt. Dora, Fl. I am considering Juki dx5 and Baby Lock presto 2 or the Brilliant. I would love the Baby Lock Allegro because of throat space. I would love your opinion. As a man looking for something artistic I believe quilting might be my outlet. Thank you for your expertise.
Excellent information. This looks like a great little machine. I'm tempted to add to my collection. I'm a quilter but like to sew with embellished stitches. Thank you. Love it
I have a Singer Quantam 9960. It has a lot of those same features but it costs about a quarter of the price of the Juki. I have had it for over two years and still working perfectly.
I am looking for a machine I can learn to free motion quilt with. But have very limited budget, and I am so glad you said something about your 9960, It is currently the machine I am leaning towards mostly because of the features and price friendly in relation to all the many options. thanks!!..
Kathleen Workman I have had the Singer 9960 for almost three years. I have never taken it in for maintenance. I keep it clean and I use it often. I love this machine and , if you decide to buy it, I hope you have the same luck with yours. Mine was purchased on Amazon for around $260! What a bargain that turned out to be!
The Juki is so much more expensive because it has a lot of features that the Singer Quantum 9960 does not have, such as adjustable presser foot pressure, all the computerised options to program the pedal etc, presser foot hover function, knee lift. So really the equation is whether you have a $1200 budget and want computerised everything, or pay $300 and you get a basic type of heavy duty computerised but much less adjustability.
Great overview of this machine. For a scant quarter easier to just change the needle position one click to the right rather than change the feed. I recently bought a used Juki Kirei. It has all of these lovely features plus 12" of space. I bought it to use for quilting. My other machine is a Bernina B 530--but the throat space is too small for larger quilts...feels like wrestling an alligator. I agree with you that for the price point, the feature to price ratio is much higher on a Juki v. more premium brands. I do find the raised profile on the throat plate to be undesirable, and I don't understand why it is engineered that way. I have Juki coverstitch and my Bernette Serger from the 90's which still works perfectly was made by Juki--and both have excellent quality. A few of features that I really like: the hover, thread cutter (oh my how I love that). And on decorative stitches is shows the needle swing so you don't have to count on where you are in the pattern to know where the next move is going to be--great for applique. I like the dial v. button pushes. It also has a even feed, and it works very well. So, I'm really happy with my full-featured used machine that would have cost thousands more for the features in the Bernina.
Hint. Scant 1/4 by moving needle position to the right. Test how many needle movements by fabric strips and measurements. Then note and always move needle position and use the edge of pressure foot. Gives more stability for straight seams, especiakky for beginners.
Hey Vanessa! I am on search for a sewing machine since one and a half years. As soon as I have seen your review of the Juki DX5 I looked it up on Amazon, because I live in Austria, Europe and cannot use your link. I discovered that the Juki DX7 is on sale a litte bit cheaper than the DX5 but still over 1100 Euros. So I thought, I will observe it a little bit, and if it goes below 1000 Euros I will buy it, though at the moment I barely can afford the price. And yesterday it was on sell for 999 Euros and I decided immediately that I will buy it. I am so grateful for your review, because I trust totally your judgement and experience and though I never wanted to pay so much money for a sewing machine I am really happy buying this one. It has more features than I ever dreamed of and everything I am longing for a really long time now. So I wanted to share my joy and gratefulness with you! Susanne
Diann Harris hi hope u do not mind me asking are u pleased with its button holes ? And as regards noise would u call it silent or noisy when in operation? Appreciate yr feedback ver much 😋
This is the best explanation I have come across and believe me, I have been in many tutorial before making my decision in purchasing one. Is there a tutorial on a Janome Atelier 6, which I believe is a similar category of the Juki 5. Many thanks
Wow! That was a great video! I'm very much a beginner, and I wish I'd seen this before I bought my first machine. I'll have to start saving up for my second! Thanks for sharing this.
dcwatashi did you get the Singer Quantum stylist? I have the Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 and I love it! But I’m thinking about looking into the Juki dx5 or the Juki dx7. I love Juki and I have a Juki serger coming soon! 😍
Hi Vanessa your video is very thorough and I love it! I have been eyeballing this machine for a couple of months and I want to purchase. Can you tell me if this dx5 is a metal machine vs a lot of plastic inner parts if you know I would be most appreciative thanks! 🥰🥰🥰
Hi Vanessa, Thank you so much for taking the time to show us the DX5. I do have a couple of machines, and was thinking about buying the DX5. But now I'm a little confused and don't know which one to buy. The ones I have is the futura quantum 400xl, the simplicity sb3129. Now I don't know if I should go for the DX5 or the DX7. My thought was to get rid of the two and get the Juki. Which one would you recommend? (I also own a Juki TL2010Q and a brother embroidery machine).
I’ve noticed that some time has gone by since you have done the review on this so machine. Do you still feel the same about it is there other pros and cons that you have now that you did not at the time of this video. I am looking for a new machine for quilting and for bags, and I’m trying to find the best for my money. Thank you for this video.
I have 2 Juki sewing machines and a Juki Air threading serger so as you can tell I am already smitten! Thank you for a great review of this machine it looks great particularly with the addition of the presser foot up or down button I think. I have that feature on my brother embroidery machine and love it. I however have trouble with both of my Juki machines in that they auto cut the thread without me touching the button or hitting the heel of the pedal. I even have the manual lock on the pedal but it still suddenly cuts the thread which is getting annoying. Has this ever happened to you?
Please send people to their local dealer if they do not live close to your Florida dealer. We need to support our local stores or they will close....as happens too much. Thank you.
I have a 20 year old mechanical huqsvarna (Huskystar) they don't make it anymore, still works great. I also have a two-year old Bernina that cost more than twice what this Juki cost and I wish I'd known about this, I could have had a nice vacation for what I could have saved!
This seems totally trivial, but it's important--that you can press the reverse button once, and have it place one stitch in reverse. My Janome sews in place for that first reverse stitch. (I think I also have to press the pedal to get it to go backwards; it's been so long since I've used it, I can't remember for sure). The Juki would allow much more precise backstitching, which is exactly what I want many times, just one stitch at a time.
Hello Vanessa, I am currently checking the JUKI HZL DX and series and the PFAFF ambition 620. My main expectations include: to be quiet, automatic thread cutter, alphabet, IDT, and to sew all type of fabrics. Th one thing I have found as main difference between the 2 is the quality of the buttonhole. Did you had the chance to test the pfaff ambition 620? Also come to know that JUKI HZL DX series are likely to sew with industrial power. I am a hobby sewer wanting to upgrade to a high quality strong sewing machine. I wish I knew which lasts longer and requires less service.
Thank you, Vanessa!!!! You did an AMAZING job with this review. I just found you and SO glad I did. I'm considering the DX-5 and the Brother PS500; have you ever reviewed or know anything about it?

Great review I really like this machine the 1/4" setting is a big plus for me. I'm a quilter.
I am a Juki Junkie! I purchased the Juki DX2000QVP two years ago and absolutely LOVE IT!
Isn’t it amazing?!
Vanessa your reviews are so clear and concise. You are awesome. Love your tutorials, so easy to understand 👍🏽
I am so happy infoumd you. We are moving to Gainesville this summer from Winter Haven. I am self taught and my 7 year old wants to learn too.
Review brilliant really helped me decide my new machine. So many features set this Juki apart from others.
Excellent video. I just got the DX5 & your video was the perfect intro.
Your review on the juki is the reason why I bought that brand!
Jackie Sherburn I hope you didn’t regret buying this brand? I want to get one for myself
Invisible Commentator no not at all...I've been an industrial sewer all my life and very familiar with the juki name!!! Love my machine ! It has all the wonderful features an industrial machine has plus some!!
Thank you so much. This is better than the project DVD. You are an excellent teacher. Hope to make it to your store someday
After watching your review I want this machine and I’m a beginner!!
I have a question what’s the difference between this machine and the other one you shared The Juki 600 XL
I also own and love the Singer 9960, and it is available on Amazon for about $300!! A GREAT DEAL.
GLH no
I am looking for a machine I can learn to free motion quilt with.
Great overview. Can’t wait to get my DX7 tomorrow!
Hint. Scant 1/4 by moving needle position to the right. Test how many needle movements by fabric strips and measurements. Then note and always move needle position and use the edge of pressure foot. Gives more stability for straight seams, especiakky for beginners.
Good info.
I would like to know if this Juki sews heavy fabric…?
Susanne
Great time with you....the best way to explane.
You are an excellent presenter. Thank you, I'm about to order the next model up from this.
Just about to buy one so this was the best demo I ve seen.Thankyou
I love the Juki HZL-DX7. I purchased it in part because of your review... I trust your opinion. Mine will be paid off in December! 😊❤️
Woohoo! Congrats! I love mine!
Diann Harris hi hope u do not mind me asking are u pleased with its button holes ? And as regards noise would u call it silent or noisy when in operation?
Appreciate yr feedback ver much 😋
Aurora26 I don’t mind at all. I love the buttonholes and mine is very quiet. I love all the features! ❤️
This is the best explanation I have come across and believe me, I have been in many tutorial before making my decision in purchasing one. Is there a tutorial on a Janome Atelier 6, which I believe is a similar category of the Juki 5. Many thanks
What a great machine! Good job describing the features!
Wow! That was a great video! I'm very much a beginner, and I wish I'd seen this before I bought my first machine. I'll have to start saving up for my second! Thanks for sharing this.
Totally enjoyed this video. Would you do a video on your machine so I can decide which one I want. Thank you
You did a great explanation for this machine. I sure wish you could fix the audio.
OMG!!! Next time I’m in Williston visiting my in-laws I’m totally popping in your studio! ❤️
Hey Vanessa. I know the 2010Q works great for handbags but how does the DX 5 or 7 stack up against multi layers and cork/vinyl?
I’d like to know this also
I’d also like to know this please
Loved this review so much I actually bought. DX7. So far so good. But I could use more instruction on how to use the different
Features.
What a great job you did explaining all the bells and whistle on the Juki.....would love to get one, at last not in the budget.
dcwatashi that is the one I have and I love it. It’s under $500 (less on sale)! I’ve had it for over two years and my Singer Stylist is working great.
www.amazon.com/SINGER-9960-Computerized-600-Stitches-Accessories/dp/B004RDH7Y8/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1536285647&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=singer+quantum+stylist+9960&psc=1
dcwatashi yes I am.
dcwatashi did you get the Singer Quantum stylist? I have the Singer Quantum Stylist 9960 and I love it! But I’m thinking about looking into the Juki dx5 or the Juki dx7.
I love Juki and I have a Juki serger coming soon! 😍
Hi Vanessa your video is very thorough and I love it! I have been eyeballing this machine for a couple of months and I want to purchase. Can you tell me if this dx5 is a metal machine vs a lot of plastic inner parts if you know I would be most appreciative thanks! 🥰🥰🥰
did you ever try to sew leather or 3-4 layers of webbing & softshell (for a dog's harness?)
I replaced all of my machines with JUKI, because Juki is that good. I have 4 Juki's and love them all.
What machines did you replace?
Hi Vanessa,
Thank you so much for taking the time to show us the DX5.
Great teacher, wish I was in north Florida. Thank you
I’ve noticed that some time has gone by since you have done the review on this so machine. Do you still feel the same about it is there other pros and cons that you have now that you did not at the time of this video. I am looking for a new machine for quilting and for bags, and I’m trying to find the best for my money. Thank you for this video.
I'm sure she uses a DX7 at home.. she just teaches with the DX5.
The DX5/7 and F600 appear to be very similar. Since you have both, would you say what the advantage is of the
DX7 over the F600?
I would love to know this as well! I am comparing the two and wondered which is best for heavy duty sewing (handbags) as well as garment it quilting.
You did not do the denim test with this machine, just curious to how it did
Thank you for the video I just bought this sewing machine juki dx5 I love 1/4 guide
This machine does almost as many things as my Bernette that I paid $1200.00 for. I’ve looked at this machine and it is a great price.
love this, as always you did a wonderful job, I love several of the features, the quarter inch stitch and the lock stitch to just name a couple...
I have an industrial Juki and I love it.
Please send people to their local dealer if they do not live close to your Florida dealer. We need to support our local stores or they will close....as happens too much. Thank you.
Vanessa, would you please do a detailed review of the markings on the stitch plate? Thanks!
Yes please answer, f600 or dx5 please please
omg, I'm in love. I have a huqsvarna three years now but I find it 's not very user friendly and it's loud
Thank you! I will be purchasing the DX5.
Thank you, Vanessa!!!! You did an AMAZING job with this review. I just found you and SO glad I did. I'm considering the DX-5 and the Brother PS500; have you ever reviewed or know anything about it?
