Not gonna lie, even though the blizzard and the hopelessness of this situation… the window rattling in the house would honestly be the thing that would make me completely lose my mind LMAO, I have no idea how someone sleeps with a racket like that.
To be fair if this was real life, people would find ways to secure/nail down whatever is causing all that racket. I don't think anyone would leave it like that.
I like the idea of this mode, the afflictions seem to help squeeze the hardship of a long play through into a shorter time period so a player doesn't have to go 100+days to feel pressured.
Im digging this challenge, and it seems like thats what it is. I know it is a mode but with a set spawn and pre-determined ailments, I would argue it feels more like a challenge mode. I can appreciate your points on the matter. The idea of no recovery has always been the least used setting in all my years of gameplay. Perhaps that is the ultimate difficulty. I'm excited to try and survive long enough to get to the final affliction and see how it affects the long term survival probability. Really do appreciate all that you do and now with so much new content, I'm sure you have a lot you want accomplish. Dont stress this run too much and remember to enjoy what you are doing. Cheers man 😊
7:00 : Yeah, there is a bug that Hinterland needs to fix after their update. All the capacities of liquids are screwed up. Mostly in Water and Lantern Fuel, but I haven't checked anything else out. Just keep in mind every 0.26 gal of water = 2.20 lbs
I can see the stress and lack of quality resources triggering a chronic illness that would have the effects Diminished Form causes. I say that as someone with two chronic illnesses that, when flaring, reduce my strength and stamina. They are awful. In a situation like The Long Dark puts the character in, I can absolutely see an affliction like that happening.
I just finished 3 runs at Misery Mode - 80 Days, then 101 Days then 109 days in total for each....The last one at 109 days was such a rip - some wolves spawned in right behind a large rock in Mystery Lake - when they were not there only seconds before that and I was using the Travois - a death sentence using that damn thing.
My first time watching your videos and it was very enjoyable! I like learning about this new mode with you. I think the afflictions seem grounded in long-term winter survival issues- eating a carrot or two a day would have much more serious consequences than interloper players typically see 😅 Thanks for the video!
The difficulties of using a flare to start a fire to boil some water/teas or to keep it for other just as important things. This mode seems like fun lol.
only watched 5 mins until now but i already like the commentary and your voice (no boot licking intended) but already the game volume in the farmhouse was a touch too loud. you've probably already changed it in ep. 2 but just in case u haven't otherwise looking forward to this playthrough :)
I genuinely thought the final Misery affliction would just straight up make you unable to climb ropes or run, given it's called Broken Body. Awesome mode, never touching it because i'm struggling even with Gunloper.
I noticed the same bug with the water when I first played the new update. I honestly thought that I did in fact have 25 gallons of water from a single toilet 😂
I definitely agree with you regarding no condition recovery being a more important / better way to have a hardcore challenge. Modifying things from base interloper like temperature, weather, and maybe even a modified easier version of this affliction system in misery mode can be cool for extra difficulty like in deadman, but I think that no condition recovery is the crucial factor that makes or breaks the progression. I loved the day to day tasks of trying to keep everything up in deadman, and avoiding freezing or starving even for a short period at all costs. Do you think that regular interloper should have no condition recovery?
I think that making a harder version of interloper would be super easy. All you have to do is get rid of condition recovery and drop the global temperature down several degrees. That way, survival long term is possible, but extremely difficult every day. This “Misery Mode” feels forced in my opinion. Stacking on cheap afflictions isn’t my idea of fun. But, I’ll give it a few more episodes and see if I enjoy!
@@SurvivorMike Yeah I agree. Let's see how this series continues though, I haven't seen what the other afflictions are yet so I'm still intrigued to see what they do & how difficult it gets towards the end. Good luck!
i was thinking of new ways we could use carrots and potatoes, and i thought about a vegetable soup recipe, with broth and the veggies. maybe even fries if you have oil
57-gallon toilet. And 25 gal oil! OP game mode Also, are you really playing this without the knowledge that 6 of those afflictions are incoming? Also, no disrespect but "Not complaining too much" made me literally LOL
someone’s mad they didn’t get to beta test 🙄🙄 all jokes lmao, i was also thrown off by the random afflictions just bc i think they could’ve made actual cooler stuff that actually happens for example paradoxical undressing is when a person with hypothermia experiences “heat” in their body (cold so extreme it feels hot) and so they shed their clothes which ultimately leads to heat loss and death. these actual real life afflictions that are super common but not well known would’ve been cool to see
Already have a misery run with like 2 weeks so far! Aint easy that's for sure, but i want to survive till i get all afflictions. Just curious how bad it gets lol (Btw i found cardboard matches in my run, suppose that's a bug)

You can train your mind to enjoy those sounds

57.49 gallons of water equals 478.827 lbs. You should drop a few gallons so as not to be too encumbered so early on!! 😂😂 👍👍
If anyone can beat the unbeatable Misery mode, Mike is your guy!!!
gotmilkanot: Finally, a worthy opponent. Our battle will be legendary!
PV farm is no more guaranteed matches spawn, It is rural store at Thomson's bridge
You had a lot better start on misery than I always have on interlooper xDD

Yeah it's a bug, for some reason instead of displaying oz, it is giving it in gal.
What the hevk... gal, lbs, oz... why not just litres? xD
@@pantarei. cause british privateers sunk the only ship headed to america with metric measurements, so we made our own. USA USA USA
Fantastic video Mike, can’t wait for you to smash this mode!! Keep up the great videos bud.
Honestly, I like when games add those "You WILL die" difficulties, even tho I'd never play those, just never tie things like steam achievements to it.

I'm new to your channel..I absolutely love this series, thanks so much..
8:10 bad news not anymore, only on Thompson's crossing now, on rural store
Yay! Been waiting to see you play Misery. Not quite sure how I myself feel about it since I can only manage Stalker myself. Keep up the good work!

that imperial measurement bug caught me off guard too when it was telling me my recycled can produced 13 gallons of water lol

Everything was fine until i read "last affliction is no condition recovery" and politely said to Hinterland"no thanks bro!"

Does this mode work with the personalization? I have a couple of ideas how to make it even more miserable :)
i was thinking of new ways we could use carrots and potatoes, and i thought about a vegetable soup recipe, with broth and the veggies. maybe even fries if you have oil
Something tells me Misery Mode is not going to be for you...
Willing to give it a try! But I’d rather be playing deadman maybe 👀

Yea I heard if your circles stay red to long that's when the issue starts
Is the cougar being temporarily removed the reason my custom survival settings have the cougar locked at “none”?
57GAL of water is crazy lol

I honestly didn't even know there was a beta test, I was so busy! lol. The Long Dark usually never misses on updates though!
LETS GO!

Lesss gooooo
Why do i envoy to see mike suffer more and more series after series
I tried my hand at misery and made me realize how bad i suck at this game lol i can't even start a fire
Bro, imperial units are ment to be wonky, why are you so surprised? :)
Hey....this is the guy from GamesFromScratch......haha....
There is a secret that allow you to never die in Misery Mode - guess what it is ?
Survivor Mike, can I get a hi???
Hey buddy! I've seen you commenting, and I appreciate it! Thanks for watching!
Another bug at 7:30 You are correct. 25.36gal x 8.34 pound per gallon = 211,50 pounds of oil.
At 6:55 was a bug. It said the toilet had 57.49 Galons, or 217.6226 Liters.
