- Bathroom Remodeling and Home Improvement always has its challenges and unintended consequences 😄 Adding new tile to update that bathroom can be one of them. This often results in having a toilet flange that is too low for a standard wax ring to meet a toilet properly!
Here are the materials used to fix this situation:
1/4" Oatey Toilet Flange Spacers - amzn.to/3V902c8
Long toilet bolts - bit.ly/49Lx2f6
OSI Poly Sealant - amzn.to/3IvwONd
3" deck screws - bit.ly/3VdeEY7
Telescopic Magnet - amzn.to/4ccHvSo

Great squat by the videographer! great mobility!
Another great video, thanks Steve.
This is often overlooked. Great info
I just had to do this on my bathroom project, but mostly because of the self leveler. Glad to see I did it right!
That's debatable
Ty Sir !
They also make specialized wax rings with silicone flange for this scenario, or you can double up your wax rings to mitigate those fractions of an inch.
Yep sometimes it’s whatever you have on hand in the truck 😆
I got that toy too!
How about expand a flange so the pipes are actually connected, some longer tool bolts & two wax rings...
I always stay away from the wax rings with the plastic horn. When the water is dumped, it hits the horn and can splash back up causing water around the base of the toilet and floor. The horn also causes "narrowing" of the pipe leading to clogs because your 4" dump pipe is no longer 4" at the top.
How does this work if I have a cast iron flange, do I just drill the screws into the existing flange? I also saw another one of your videos where your guys just put silicone so I'm just a little confused... Great video and a great channel too!!
Caste iron can still be done this way. Just tough sometimes to get anchors into. Especially if subfloor is bad or none existent under it. They do make repair flanges that slide into and anchor through a pressure plate www.amazon.com/dp/B00MYCABII/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_api_gl_i_QRAHR46HCTR5ZWBAQ1E8?linkCode=ml2&tag=bathroomrem03-20
I have replaced all of my flooring with LVP and have used this method so far with my two toilets upstairs. It is my first time doing any DIY project and wasn’t aware of the need to screw them down or seal together. How necessary is this step? Do I need to remove them and redo it this way?
It’s hard to say. I’m assuming it’s not leaking? I’ve torn apart 25 year old showers where the piping wasn’t glued at trap and nothing leaked 😆
There are no leaks that I can tell. Would it be leaking under the floor where I wouldn’t be able to see it or would it come from under the toilet?

You're out of your mind. Replace the flange and put it on top of the tile or flush with the tile. What is acceptable is when its flush , & up to It sitting on top of the tile. That looks like trash. Replace the flange and put a new one. That's what would be the best solution, not spacers. And you knew it was going to be higher because of the type of floor you were putting in. So you.
Should have already planned for that ahead of time. Have a good one.
Hey bud, go pound salt 👊 there’s absolutely nothing wrong with this method. And as far as height of flange, go read a few specs on wax rings. 1/4” above or below
This idiot just trolls, don't pay attention to him
@BathroomRemodelingTeacher How about I've been on job sites for 25 years? I don't need to read specs. I know how a toilet flinch is supposed to be set. But back to my original comment. Because you said this is the best way and it is not, so it is what it is you can get mad. Or whatever, but you're wrong so again. Trying to have a better day this time.....hacky
@@BonBon770 well then we have the same amount of experience then. Stick your ideas, obviously has worked out 💪
@BathroomRemodelingTeacher Alright I don't understand that but regardless enough with the trash talk..... Here's the point. THAT IS A OPTION, BUT, NOT THE "BEST"!!!
