    I will be surprised if people who tow or carry still buy small Ute for 80k and splash another 20-40k on top to make it ready for tow or carry(canopy) when all American utes do that out of the box and only pay marginal extra which is worth it. Don’t forget American utes have such a big cab and useful bed. I think in couple of years we will see decline in small utes and see more of American Utes on roads.

    • @dr.killjoy5001

      You can buy a normal ute for 50-60k, pour maybe 10k on it, and it's ready for towing around 3 tonnes. If you need to tow more than you can buy these bigger trucks.

      I mean, you’re probably not wrong about the rear leg room, but the towing thing always gets me.
      99% of these I’ve seen aren’t towing. I think in all the time I’ve these behemoths on Australian roads I’ve seen maybe one towing something that a regular Ute couldn’t. It was a small piece of earth moving equipment and a large cement mixer with a boat load of toolboxes.
      I was more surprised by the fact it was in the country side, where they belong. Not clogging up urban roads and car parks.

    The model in this video is a highly optioned version of the f150, hence heavier which pushes for a lower payload. Might still be legally possible to tow upwards of 5,900kgs (might! as I don't know australian traffic laws).
    Overall, this truck (ute) class in North America are very offroad capable if optioned accordingly, but they shine mostly on the amazing compromise they deliver between comfortably hauling family, towing and carrying heavier stuff around.
    In USA & Canada, base versions can tow around 6,300 kgs and some have a payload slighlty above 1,510 kgs, dependant on engine configuration.

    I drove an F150 36 years ago. I have always loved them and always wanted them. However, the cost that these are, is ridiculous. This product however demonstrates a few realities. The first that is that we need a manufacturing centre here in Australia, and we need a manufacturer (NOT FORD) to build this style of vehicle. Why not Ford? The reports in the US of this vehicle, is that it has a lot of faults. It's a dud mechanically. Another comment I want to make is around the power. WE need this. People need this. The guy in this video saying not everyone needs this is plain stupid ignorance. If you are going to tow, you need a heavier vehicle and a more powerful vehicle than we have here in this country. I have commented in a general way for a long time now, that engine sizes and engine powers in this country need to significantly increase. My last comment, is the far left globalist group WEF, who have penetrated out government, and headed by Klaus Schwab, has made it clear that they want to take car ownership away from people. I would have that freedom loving people would be speaking out, and that includes channels like this.

    • @WildernessLVR
      @WildernessLVR 10 месяцев назад

      Keep in mind that this vehicle is sold in the million digits yearly in Canada & USA. It's said that one rolls off the production line at every 57 seconds, so human failure will occur. Obviously there will be thousands of vehicles having issues.
      However overall it's not a dud and yes a very good vehicle (needing some tweeks maybe) otherwise it would not sell to the point you can barely get one for purchase in the lots and special orders were 6 months to a year behind not too long ago. See Canada & USA vehicle sale records to confirm it's been the best selling vehicle there for at least 50 years straight!!!!
      Sells more than cars 1/3 of the price... Again a dud would not make it anywhere as I'm sure you can agree on.
      But I understand where you get your observation, because thousands of owners complaining, are thousands of ownership complaints. No way to paint that picture differently, but dealerships have been doing what they can to repair these issues, although many are frustrated for the waiting time and poor customer service in some dealerships (the usual stains) and others don't really see fixes being effective.
      Cheers! :)

      @@WildernessLVR Not according to some other videos I saw recently. Also the dealers in the US cannot sell EVs and cannot sell this one. Apparently the government has forced the manufacturers to make EVs. They are being made, and being delivered and the retail sale lots are filling up with them. I can’t imagine it selling well at that price. Australia should just chance to left hand or right hand driving. I’ve done both and it’s not difficult for someone to go back and forth..
    For example, I’m an airline captain… I’m also a check airman (an instructor and also give check rides in the aircraft). Check airmen fly both positions… for example one trip I may act as a First officer for a new captain, the next trip I may sit in the jump seat and evaluate a crew…. On another I may fly as a captain for a new first officer.
    I go from motorcycle’s, cars, trucks and when in England or Australia find myself in the right seat driving.
    I personally think England and Australia should shift two left seat driving but allow a 15 year transition and always allow classic cars to drive regardless of steering wheel position.

    I get that the Aussie market is small... but man... this essentially hand rebuilding to RHD of a $40K USD utility truck to one that costs an equivalent of $95K is absolutely bonkers. Yes US buyers buy F-150s in that price range BUT those are like top of the range Limited and Platinum trims which are decked out Luxo-barges with air suspension, adaptive LED headlights, 5.0L V8 power (or High output 3.5L EBTT), fully leather trimmed, all the tech gadgets, and everything else Ford can throw at you, including wildly expensive paint jobs for again, what is essentially a utility vehicle. Pickup truck culture is weird, but I fully support Aussie embrace of this slice of Americana... just not at the ridiculous price point.
    Source: am American. Many of you Aussies could probably justify super duty trucks (the models that sit above the F-150) with what y'all are towing tbh. Plus, you can spec em with a 6.7L V8 turbodiesel. That $90K+ yall are paying for F-150s down under will get you something like a Super Duty stateside. Much more capable tbh.

      If you spec up a Lariat in the US with all the features that are standard on the Aus truck, the price comes to about USD$66k or AUD$100k. Then you've gotta get the truck to Australia, convert it and let Ford Aus and dealers clip the ticket along the way. The price in Australia is pretty competitive.

  • @sethtaylor8134
    @sethtaylor8134 Год назад +1

    It's not such a big deal converting it from LHD to RHD. Since RHD cars are only a small part of the world wide market. Most car manufacturers have been looking at scrapping their RHD builds & just converting their LHD cars for the RHD market. Ford & Toyota have been talking about it for years & Ford is the first to start doing it. But it will end up being most to all new cars.
    Unfortunately for us in Australia, all new cars are going to have a considerable price jump because of it. (though most cars are already overpriced in Australia)
    Annoying fact 1: It cost less to convert an EV from LHD to RHD. So when all cars are being converted for the Australian market, EV's will be the cheaper option. (funny how that works out)
    Annoying fact 2: With a huge surplus of Ford Rangers in the US (as an example). Australian wait times for a new vehicle will be reduced from 12 - 18 months to less than 6 months. Going by US stock, Ford gets to sell 1 unit (a car) for the price of 2 units.

    Matt, I have said before and I will say it again. Dodge have had nothing to do with Ram trucks for nearly 14 years. Production was moved to Chrysler plants in 2010 when Ram and Dodge split into two completely different brands and manufacturers from the 4th generation on. As a motoring journo you should know this, it has been common knowledge for years.

      Ram were trying to shake an undesirable market image, they wanted to be seen as more capable, reliable and to focus on building heavier duty trucks… hence why they dropped the Dodge name.
      Now they are built in Mexico, they still use shared Chrysler group parts and the whole FCA group has been amalgamated into Stellantis… and that’s a dumpster fire of automotive brands in itself!
