Beautiful scape! For me the most amazing part of the video is you have a 200 YEAR OLD LFS near you. I started keeping fish in 1959 and that seems like the dark ages of fish keeping!
Very nice composition. I love the way you planted it, it really highlights the hardscape well without overtaking it. I am usually not too much a fan of light screen, but in this instance I think it makes everything pop, giving it a greater sense of depth, too. Love the choice of fish for this tank. Excellent work, MJ. Take care.
Stunning build. Got to thank you for your content, I’ve just started my aqua scaping journey and your tutorials have been really helpful. Cheers from Australia and keep up the amazing work.
You should experiment with a black background on the tank. It makes the green neon rasbora stand out much more. Especially when they get that blue stripe down their back as they turn in the water.
I’m really enjoying the direction your scaping and videos are taking lately! You have a way of being super informative and captivating all while being yourself! I love to steer newcomers to the hobby, to check out your channel! Thank you for your amazing contribution to the hobby and so relatable.
I love the hardscape! I’m curious about your artistic choice to not re-use more of the well-grown red and purple plants, because I think that green fish would stand out really well against red plants.
I have a tank of 18 Neon Green Kubotai Rasbora..I just love them, such a metallic iridescent colour of fresh bright green and that hint of blue/violet along back. Have owned them for a almost 2 years, I also have with them 2 electric blue balloon belly rams, 3 ottos and 2 liniolata hills\ stream loaches. Lovely tank including this one. I wished mine had that more professional touch as you awesome aquascapers have. Lisa, Western Australia
Love this hardscape and layout! Nice fish selection to! I have to say no light screen only because that fade from the bottom to top and effect of the light on the top of the tank looks very cool! Can’t wait to see this in a month! Great job Mark as always! 👏
I love how with this video you have experimented with new things both in the tank and your process of conceiving a new way to work eg starting the design with the fish. I am really excited to see how you evolve and develope fresh ideas in the future. Keep up the great work!
Just discovered your channel. I'm not an aquascaper, in fact I can't even keep Java Moss alive (sad but true). But I wanted to see more about the Green Rasboras. Maybe I'll pick up some plant-keeping skills if I watch enough of your videos. Also, I love the look of that Oase hang on the back filter, first time I've seen anything that looks modern like that. And I've never really paid attention to those LED background light screens, I like those.
Amazing scape! Looks great with and with out the light screen. I’d keep have it for whatever mood I’m feelin I guess. Love stumbling across new scapers!
Hi Mark-Jan, Thanks for another great video! Those Neon Green Rasbora’s are really cool. I’m planning to set up my first Nano Tank, but beside the aquarium I had when I was like 15 years old, I have no experience. Things have changed a lot in the aquarium business since then. So I recently watched some of your videos and learned a lot! It will definitely help me making the right choices. So thanks for all the great tips! And thanks for mentioning Heems. I was there about 5 years ago to buy some guppy’s with my daughter. Although Heems is very close to my house and to my work, I sort of forgot about the shop over the years. Definitly have to go there again. Greets, Rudi
Oh, that was a good one. Interesting method of putting the hardscape first and adding the soil later. It makes it more natural. I just would added bigger rocks, but it's already beautiful. Also you got interesting tech though. I guess that's a new kind of Oase hang-on filter. Looking forward for an update. Cheers.
As a newbie to planted tanks, I have a really hard time trying to learn the names of aquarium plants. I can't even remember what I have in my own tank 😂. Anyways, I just hooked up my Fzone diy co2 generator today (citric acid and baking soda) with the help of this channel. Going well so far and I am excited to see how my unknown plants react to the upgrade!! 😁
Re: Heems. A *200 year old* retail shop? That’s far older than many of our very oldest, most well established general retailers in the US - much less specialty retailers such as pet/fish supply. That’s absolutely fascinating. 🤯 Perhaps consider doing a vlog someday that features the shop and some of its long history?
I really like the texture on the woods, it is more profound without the back light. I also like the diffusion effect of the back light but may be when the plants establish more. Just my two cents. Really like the video as always MJ. Can't wait for an update 😀
Mark refreshingly honest ref. red plant set-up with stem plants, Dutch Style, I grow a lot of stem plants Pogostemon, Limnophilia including Rotala Macrandra and sometimes think the tank consumes my life, trim, trim and trim again and they insist on growing into each other and all order is lost. George Farmer is enthusiastic about moderate light rosette, running and rhizome plants for a reason, pity I haven't gone down that route!
Yeah I don't mind trimming plants, but this tank was just too much. Probably also not the brightest idea to use so many stem plants in a tank that's only 28cm tall 😅
Neon Green Rasboras are one of those fish that benefit from some experimentation with the lighting: both the colour and angle of the lighting. Mine absolutely sparkle with one of the submersible led lights, fixed with the rubber suckers, so it sits with the top of the tube just above the water surface and the actual leds just below the water surface - and making sure the leds are angled backwards and down (about 45 degree angle). This makes the green colour glow! A second light should be suspended above the aquarium: this one concentrating heavily in the blue spectrum. This creates an amazing blue streak across the back of the fish - pretty much from nose to tail. I wasn't sure about the aesthetics of having the led stuck to the top of the front glass at first (especially on an open topped aquarium), but the effect on the fishes colour is worth it. Also, the gap between the glass and the light is the perfect place to sprinkle the food in. The rubber suckers either side trap the food in this gap - preventing it from being blown everywhere by the filter outflow and sucked straight down the surface skimmer before the little fish can eat it all.
Hai, I would stick to the kubotai rasbora. Maybe some shrimp to go with it.( jade shrimp?) to stay with the colour. I have red shrimp with rasbora Brigittae, both red. Love it you are trying new species of fish!!!! Especially rasbora 💚💚💚
Nice scape! The wood works really well. I think the lightscreen is way too bright. If it were a soft yellow or green, it would work better. As it is, I'd rather have it off. As for stocking, I think the focus should stay on the rasboras. Maybe add some neocaridina shrimp or nerite snails?
Love how you always say you wait to let the tank fully cycle not like the other RUclipsrs that do it that same day when the tank is set up. I can’t stand how they do that and basically tell the people it’s ok to do it
I really like the wood you used. I’m going to start looking for it. Very nice hard scape design. Speaking of looking, I went on Amazon US and I didn’t see the Oase hang on style filter. Only one saltwater company here in the US showed availability. And the price was a bit high. In regards to the backlight, I like it without. Cheers 🏄🏼♂️
I think it looks nicer with backlight. Besides, if it was me, I wouldn't close the hole in the tree on the left, it added beauty to the design. In addition, green rasboras together with green plants become a little ambiguous. My idea is that adding a few fish in shades of red will make scape even more beautiful.
I'm not sure the twinstar is supposed to help with diatoms, I thought it was only for ''green algae'' but could be wrong. I also didn't see a difference. But

I notice using different light well done
Looks really amazing! Want to know how those rare plants grow in 💚
Hello, another good video. I was thinking that as much as I like the lighted background I think it does look better in this instance without it
The montecarlo great idea!!
the tool you used is called 'a level' (or spirit level) in english 😂 lovely tank. these fish are hard to find in the UK

Without Screen. You'll never get to see that cool green of the Rasboras with that screen blinding you. Ember Tetras would look great in there.
Nice scape! The wood works really well. I think the lightscreen is way too bright. If it were a soft yellow or green, it would work better. As it is, I'd rather have it off.

Maybe orange shrimp

Nice mate, a few plants there I’d like to have a play with especially the kirin.

Hi. Beautiful again… i m gonna try to do the same. Are 40 liters enough for’rasboras ? You don’t use any heater ? Regards 😊
Awsome
Off topic for this video but I wonder if you could answer a question I have, are all non stem plants fine to dry start?
Lekker man! Abbo +
Beautiful scape as always. Did you notice any better results on killing diatom algae with Twinstar nano algae inhibitor?
I'm not sure the twinstar is supposed to help with diatoms, I thought it was only for ''green algae'' but could be wrong. I also didn't see a difference. But
hello Mj superb realization like dab tell me how much it does your new aquasceing 👍👋❤️🇫🇷
Personally i prefer without the light screen. But in the video a think makes more sense to use it.
Nice
With light screen I think, the fish look more contrasted to the rest of the aquarium with that.
Nice scape

0:42 clean Neo Flow, 1:03 pretty dirty Neo Flow, how much time between shots ? Asking cause I just installed one in my one and only tank like 4 days ago :)
Roughly 2 months!
I'm not a fan of white light screens in the back. I prefer a toned down darker background but depending on the tank color scheme. For my MEGA green planted tank I used a print of deep black with soft aqua green accents and some texture.
Gluing sheets to the back glass or painting it... Tedious... Why not just place a back drop of wallpaper or custom made print behind the tank.
Maybe I missed it but where do.u get the pads for.under the tank
Where I can find that kind of back light screen?. Thanks
How can I do dead start if I plan to do the seed plants for the substrate?
Is it not dangerous for the tank, not to be fully supported by its base?
As usual, awesome set up, definitely add some shrimp, maybe neon yellow or black.
I wouldn't do this with big tanks, but with this small tank it should be fine!
How about the noise of the Oase HOB? I think the noise of the external filters is terrible so really curious about the hob!
The HOB is making some noise as well.
I would put light screen on both kk
nomnomnom on that diatoms
😁
Install a video about monte carlo plant growing ephite.

How many Bubble per second co2 for this aquarium
I was wondering how do you keep fishes loving acidic and soft water and using tap water (hard and basic)? I was wondering, what's your parameter for your chihiros slim for the red plants aquarium? Thanks and great video as usual!
These fish are bred in hard tap water as well, I wouldn't keep wild caught fish in my tap water. With the Chihiros Slim I always have all colors on the same level.
