Cool! Fairly inexpensive to go the DIY engine rebuild route, especially if you have all the instructions and take a few 'courage pills' before starting. With an engine so 'old' and the replacement cost of a new engine being so high, the due diligence to overhaul it is worth it, especially when you do it yourself and address all of the shortcomings with the oil pump gasket. Looking forward to seeing your new project get started here on RUclips! Keep up the great work as always with your channel!
Dude, he keeps interchanging hundred with thousand. He said the dealer quoted him 65 thousand, then says to rebuild it himself he paid $5,000 in parts, $75 THOUSAND in total. So he paid atleast $1000 more to rebuild it himself. He would've let the dealer rebuild and added $1000 in upgrades and had a warranty. False economy. If those bearings are spun then that engine needs more pressure and volume oil so that factory pump needs addressing.
@@consciouscool He put a correction on "75 thousand".., but repeated numerous times "65 thousand" about the dealer. He even stated that the car was not worth even the quarter of that amount. So, 65'000 and 7'500 are correct values.

If your shell bearings have spun. then the oil feed to the journals would almost certainly be blocked /restricted . If you have any bearing shell damage then every oil passageway and oil cooler will need serious cleaning / flushing or in the case of the oil cooler replacing .

I've been watching this channel avidly for a few years and love your content. I've just used your list to get prices from the dealer for a total rebuild using my 2002 ML55 engine as a donor for a damaged block in my 2003 E55. Did you source OEM parts from other outlets and if so could you give me a heads up? Looking forward to more footage involving the M113k platform.
Hey, super series of viedos. Just about to start work on my engine. Can you share the torque spec and clearance for bearinging etc or where to find file for that? I think you mentiond it on some part of the video allso.., but now cant find it at the moment.
Quite a hefty bill for rebuilding one of those in Canada. I'm looking at around 5500€ but that includes 8 custom made JE forged pistons and a bored out block at 97.5mm.
Nice, so are you going with steel sleeves after boring the block or re applying the alusil? That does seem like a long job but at least you'll get to brag your engine is an actual 5.5L
@@xfmotorsports I'm keeping the alusil. Nobody I talked to thought it was a good idea to dry sleeve this engine due to the high output. So finally I found someone who has expierience with repairing alusil bores. Mercedes, BMW and Porsche all used it in the past. He always bores them and replaces the pistons with forged JEs. He is confident the engine will be in top condition for another 150k miles. Hopefully I have my engine back next week. I took JE 2 months to produce the pistons.

Spun bearings means oil starvation.I think you meant 65 hundred (6500) not 65 thousand (65,000) for a rebuild. If you were going to rebuild the original engine to keep resale ok but replacing with another engine, big hit on resale for that you could've gotten an engine with known milage from LKQ with a warranty much cheaper.
