I grew up in St. George as well and have struggled with an "addictive behavior" for about 30 years and have gone through therapy and addiction programs, etc. and am now serving as a missionary in the church's Addiction Recovery Program in Heber City, Utah. Now pursuing a masters in social work at UVU. It's stories like yours, and other family and friends who have struggled with, and even died, from addictions, including my own addictions throughout my life that have inspired me. Thank you for sharing your amazing story! My boss just told me that you recently spoke in his ward in Wallsburg. Thanks Ashly! I'm looking forward to listening to your podcast.

Awesome story of second chances! It struck me that the 16 yr old Ashly thought that drugs and alcohol made her free only to discover that the opposite was true. Today she’s free bc of the redemptive power of the atonement of Jesus Christ! This applies to all of us but the contrast in her life’s example is really dramatic and instructive. Thank you for sharing this story!

So sorry to hear that Amanda. Addiction is a difficult battle and unfortunately sometimes the adversary wins. One thing I learned serving as a bishop is that the God has so much compassion and love for each one of us, including your husband's step brother. Thank you for sharing, and God bless you and your family.

I honor how you have chosen to experience. If someone chooses to experience differently than you, I hope you would do the same. Some people need religion to provide a framework for how they should conduct their lives and be good human beings. Some don't. Honor that. 🙏

Does Ashly advocate homeschooling? I’ve found that trouble kids and friends at school have so much effect on our lives.
