@@howridiculous Great Paper Jets is a book for great Paper airplanes to build. The key is using thicker paper such as what is used in those folders or index cards.
PS: The P-80 Shooting Star and Gloster Meteor had some of the better flight characteristics.

Suggestion: Get a vortex with a go-pro mount on the front (theres 3d printing files for it), throw it off of high things and then stabilize the footage afterwards to counter the spinning. Makes for some cool bullet-like footage. It'd be awesome to see those dropped from the tower, thrown off of dams and chucked out of helicopters!
They already did that off the tower, it wasn't good enough to keep doing it.

Next time you do planes:
• Make sure the wings form a slight V (dihedral) instead of T or A (anhedral)
• Make a smooth throw going up instead of throwing it as hard as you can down

When it comes to things like the paper planes, you shouldn't really measure by target, but by flight time. The winner should be whoever's plane stays airborne the longest. It's really impossible to get them to stay on target at that kind of distance. Once its out of your hands, it's at the mercy of even the barest breath of wind.

@@howridiculous If you can get a good average on how "fast" it flies, you can use that and the flight-time to figure out how much distance it actually covered, even if it didn't go to the target.

"Berries" can pretty much be translated "Power" (of the throw/kick) in this context :)
My take on it is - when you squeeze berries, you get juice... juice is another way of saying petrol like, give it some juice = step on the petrol pedal, to make it go faster.

Some of the Paper Plane flights were such emotional rollercoasters, so fun to watch, even the guys in the background seemed to be having a blast!
I can only imagine how much this filming session scratched the itches of the guys who work here and always, _always_ wanted to just throw things from up top.
My dad used to tape a paper clip, penny, or some other weight on the paper airplanes he made me. They flew super far because it added a little stabilization.
That would cjange the cg aka center of gravity also called balast and that makes a world of difrence

The planes were all made with a flat top, giving them a T shape. You need to give them Y shapes with a slight angle on the wings. The plane at 14:38 had it and it flew much better.
This is true. Each time we do paper planes we get a bit better haha. At least we got lots of time aloft in this one

Haha we actually had a practice session in the HR warehouse where we talked about importance of the dihedral angle (the Y shape of the wings) - but I think the excitement of being atop the stadium makes you just want to throw the things!

You guys should sell tickets to stadium events like this all over the world. Like $5 a person. Give everyone with a seat in the upper sections a sheet of paper to make paper airplanes. Then “3, 2, 1…toss!” …and everyone throws their airplanes. Maybe 10,000+ airplanes at once!

A few years back at a New York Jets game at Giants Stadium in Secaucus, NJ, I threw a paper airplane from the upper deck and my son and I watched as it circled and flew. He was around 10 at the time and thought is was the coolest thing ever (so did I!) It was toward the end of the game and most of the stadium had emptied out due to the Jets losing miserably as they often do. It finally chose a glide path in the direction of an empty section of the lower bleachers except for one fan sitting in the middle of the section with his head resting in his hands. The plane continued on a smooth and even path and went directly into his left ear. You would have thought he was jolted by 1,000 volts of electricity the way he jumped in the air. Once in a lifetime shot for sure.
At :55 Scott is about to turn to Brett and answer a question and a ball way in the background almost lines up perfectly like it’s coming out of his mouth.

So, back when I was in Robotics, at the world Championship in Saint Louis, in 2013, we were all were sitting there with sheets of paper we had used to record scouting on that we no longer needed and started to make hordes of paper airplanes, 20,000 bored engineering students throwing thousands of paper airplanes onto a field adds up pretty quickly. They had to clear the field from all the paper airplanes
