ive made blackberry syrup and strawberry syrup using the VitaMix blender and not even straining the fruit. the syrup is thicker but very tasty and the blender smooths out the pulp so no seeds.
For years of struggling to strain the seeds from our raspberries, last year I bought a Norpro SauceMaster with a berry screen from Amazon. It has really good reviews and is also for removing the skin and seeds from tomatoes. I am looking forward to using it this fall when our berries ripen here in Alaska. It should make the job of jelly and syrup making much easier and faster! Just thought I’d share this with you as you and your viewers may be interested in it. ❤
Yes, a great share! I’ve had mine for many years and it has been a wonderful tool to have. I bought it for putting tomatoes through. I bought a used steamer a couple of years ago and I have loved using that for making juice. Then, I run the fruit thru the norpro to remove the seeds and skin before making fruit leather etc. Very useful.
Years ago my sister in law taught me how to make jams and jellies. I primarily canned raspberry jelly, because at the time I had a lot of raspberry bushes. She told me to add a couple of cups of water to the pulp, to get a second generation of juice. I'm sure that doesn't meet with the USDA canning guidelines. I only made it for my own consumption, and I never poisoned myself. I agree that double straining the raspberries is why you didn't get very much juice. I used to smush the berries as they strained to get more juice out of them.
The pulp can be used to make pink lemonade. Loosen pulp by stirring in water. Add lemon juice, water and sugar to taste. Strain out seeds. Perfect pink lemonade.
What a coincidence!! I was just talking to my spouse today about learning how to make fruit syrups at home. (Several hours before you posted this video.)
I made several different fruit syrups recently to add to lemonade and ice tea for my dad's 80th birthday party. I use the discards to make fruit leather with.
I have a Norpro juicer/steamer and do several gallons of berries at one time, it has a tube and so all you get is juice, no seeds, no pulp, so much easier and quicker. I often will just drain the liquid into sterilized canning jars and they will seal because the liquid is so hot, then later I can make jelly or syrup. Love that gadget!
I bought the jam pot you have and I love, love, love that pot! Thank you for telling us about it. Looks like pancakes or french toast are in your future very soon either at home or on Trail Grazers.
I have recently started pressure canning. Have never water-bath canned. I would love to can preserves, jams, & juices. However, my husband is diabetic, & all of these recipes are so full of sugar & carbs. Thank you for sharing, but I had better stick to freezing fruit without adding sugar. 💕
I’ve made raspberry and blueberry syrup for years, for 8 cups berries I add 2/3 cup lemon juice and 1 cup water along with sugar. After it sits for a couple hours I bring it to the boil for 6 minutes. Take off heat and then strain and process. I usually get 6 half pints this way
All that pulp you pulled out at first, water it down with a cup or two and restrain. There is good stuff in there. I make a lot of blackberry wine, it starts out kind of the same way. Well, I hope that helps. Love your show!
I just made this exact recipe with fresh raspberries last week following the ncfhp instructions. Like Pam, I barely got got 3 cups of syrup that yielded 2 pints.
So far this year, I have picked about 19 lbs. of raspberries from our property. I've been looking for more recipes to try, so this was perfect timing...thanks so much!!!❤
Growing up, my favorite syrup for my pancakes was Knottsberry Farm Apricot syrup. Hard to find now, and Apricots are very expensive! Raspberries are my second favorite, so I’d like to try this at some point if I could find as good a deal on them as you did!
I am surprised you didn't reference that you would be making some sort of HEALTHY Raspberry breakfast bar with oats. You are so creative that it fits you so well 😊. Besides, you could show us how to do it too! 😉😉😇😇... gosh, they took away my initials.. EFH.
My comment was about the leftover raspberries that the syrup was derived. It's great that Pam made syrup. Weightloss doesn't mean you can't have treats. Goodness, me, most plans include not denying a treat, just not every day. I love the syrup recipe. Keep going Pam! EFH.
I’m wondering if you can soak the left over pulp in water to extract more juice and rinse the leftover syrup in the pot and maybe use it in a cocktail or drink recipe. Raspberry lemonade? A glass of sparkling raspberry water?
I wonder if you could put the raw fruit through a slow masticating juicer like an Omega or Champion which squeezes pretty much all the juice out and separately ejects the pulp?
What sweet er can be used instead of sugar? Stevia? Ratio? I use a lot of raspberry sugar free coffee syrup but don’t like the red dye. I was wondering about making my own then your video popped up.
Wondering what size your Kitchencraft Maslin Jam Pan is: I see they have both 9 liter ($85.95) and a 4.5 liter ($53.39). I'm BRAND NEW to canning. Your videos have given me the confidence to do it. Thank you so much!
Do you think you could use a juicer steamer to get the juice from the berries? It’s something I’m gonna try this summer with raspberry’s and blue berries but think it could require some adjustments in sugar and pectins to thicken…..
Thanks for this video. Although I am not a fan of raspberries, I can see uses for other fruit syrups. I'm sorry that the recipe did not yield the amount stated. According to other commenters, the same is true with other fruits (fresh as well), so the error seems to be with the recipe. Could it be safely doubled?
I did raspberry last year and pushed thru the strainer several times to get Max raspberry. I now have a foley and if I do again I’ll do that then strain to get the Max raspberry. It just did not make much.
I love your hair when you let it go curly.
ive made blackberry syrup and strawberry syrup using the VitaMix blender and not even straining the fruit. the syrup is thicker but very tasty and the blender smooths out the pulp so no seeds.
Love my vitamix. So many usex

Love the Noropro.

Gonna look that up!
I’m gonna try juice steamer this year!!
Love the Norpro. I think I get a lot more juice out of the berries using it.

I started with 3 raspberry plants 10 years ago…i now have 2 30’ rows that produce fabulously! I love to make syrup

I freeze dry the raspberry seed leftover works nicely in bread or muffins
Thank you Pam, my fellow raspberry lover!
You are so welcome! We like raspberry shakes, too. Jim
The syrup is such a lovely color!
Raspberry is my favorite then peach! Thank you and your hair looks very nice.

Oh yum! Another great video from you. As one curly hair woman to another, your natural hairstyle looks very nice!
Add “discards” to yogurt yum
My son (late 20's) made fruit leather with the solids from a blackberry mead he was brewing.
I’ve made raspberry and blueberry syrup for years, for 8 cups berries I add 2/3 cup lemon juice and 1 cup water along with sugar. After it sits for a couple hours I bring it to the boil for 6 minutes. Take off heat and then strain and process. I usually get 6 half pints this way
I’d freeze dry that raspberry discard for a powder! I’ll be awaiting the next video. We have about 40 raspberry bushes, I need to learn more uses.
Another great video I do learn so much from you thank you for bringing me into your kitchen. Blessings to You, Bob and your audience❤

I use a hot water steam juicer. Its up to date. People have been using Jelly bags for a very very long time.kindest Regards
I just made this exact recipe with fresh raspberries last week following the ncfhp instructions. Like Pam, I barely got got 3 cups of syrup that yielded 2 pints.
That looks wonderful! Raspberries are a favorite
Ty
Wonderful recipe, I can't wait to try! I will not use sugar due to diabetes, but I bet this tastes wonderful, just naturally. Thank you so much Pam!❤
So far this year, I have picked about 19 lbs. of raspberries from our property. I've been looking for more recipes to try, so this was perfect timing...thanks so much!!!❤
Sounds great! Jim
I've made it go much farther by combining rhubarb juice with it. You also get much more juice out of raspberries by running them through a juicer.
Yes your hair is beautiful curly
I love your hair curly. It’s beautiful!
Looks delicious, i will have to try this. Thank you for sharing
It looks delicious, thank you.
Maybe you can make raspberry ripple ice cream with the leftover pulp!
Tyfs. Mmmm
Oh my..YUM!
Oh my I bet that syrup is so good. I may have to try it. Thanks 🌷🇨🇦
It is to die for!!! LOL!
Thanks

I’m also surprised that Rose is making something with so much sugar when she is trying to lose weight. Definitely not diet friendly!

Yummy! I bet that syrup is awesome!
I’ve been picking 2 quarts of raspberries a day. I’ve freeze dried 3 loads! 30 lbs. now what? Raspberry syrup!
Thank you!
Sounds great! Thanks for watching our channel. Jim
5:00 is a perfect ASMR moment 😄
Great lessons. 😊
Looking forward to canning this recipe. What is the consistancy of the syrup? Is it like pancake syrup? Thank you both so much.
I’m wondering if you can soak the left over pulp in water to extract more juice and rinse the leftover syrup in the pot and maybe use it in a cocktail or drink recipe. Raspberry lemonade? A glass of sparkling raspberry water?
That sounds interesting. Jim
Look to replace half the sugar w a sugar substitute. Swerve is pretty good.
Very helpful video. Thank you! question: Does sugar affect pH? Or does it merely inhibit bacterial growth when the concentration is adequate?
If it hasn't been mentioned yet, I wonder if your straining bag was wet? That would have absorbed a little bit extra.
The strainer is dry. Jim
I wonder if you could put the raw fruit through a slow masticating juicer like an Omega or Champion which squeezes pretty much all the juice out and separately ejects the pulp?
How do you get your jelly bag clean?
Soak it in Oxy clean overnight, then rinse thoroughly.
What sweet er can be used instead of sugar? Stevia? Ratio? I use a lot of raspberry sugar free coffee syrup but don’t like the red dye. I was wondering about making my own then your video popped up.
I wonder about using the steam juicer (3 part steam juicer) to extract the juice from the berries. Thoughts?😊
Wondering what size your Kitchencraft Maslin Jam Pan is: I see they have both 9 liter ($85.95) and a 4.5 liter ($53.39).
I'm BRAND NEW to canning. Your videos have given me the confidence to do it. Thank you so much!
Pam's Maslin pan is 9 liter. Thank you for watching our videos. Jim
Try raspberry powder with the left over fruit.. I love raspberries but not the seeds..
Do you think you could use a juicer steamer to get the juice from the berries?
It’s something I’m gonna try this summer with raspberry’s and blue berries but think it could require some adjustments in sugar and pectins to thicken…..
what a wonderful recipe
but I have a question can lamb meet be caned? I have been looking on other channels but only found beef and pork 🙂
What do you use it for? Seems like a lot of work for 2 pints.
Pam did you squeeze out the bag to get all the juice?
Amazon links not working
Does the type of berry make a difference? I used this recipe for boysenberries....
You could do a Google search on canning berry syrups to find which ones are the best to use. Jim
Would a soil ph probe work to help people learn the 'orange' level when using red substance with litmus paper?
Can you test juice after canning? I made some black raspberry juice before I found you, but I'm not sure it's safe.
how do you know what PH it needs to be at? was it listed on the recipe ?
It is the same pH for all high acid foods--4.6.
I used the same recipe for cherry syrup today, and it did not make enough juice for the amount of cherries stated in the recipe either.
Thanks for sharing! Jim
If you added alcohol to the mixture, would it still need to be canned?
I did raspberry last year and pushed thru the strainer several times to get Max raspberry. I now have a foley and if I do again I’ll do that then strain to get the Max raspberry. It just did not make much.
Max raspberry is a good goal! Thanks foe sharing.
Can’t you steam bath can it? Because it takes so much less water and time to bring it to boil
Could I put the raspberries through a juicer after cooking?
You could certainly try that. It might be a great outcome!
Do you have to add sugar to the juice before canning
Yes, Jim
Does sugar contribute to the acidity?
Sugar has no effect on acidity.
Who does all the washing up
I'd love to know how you DON'T have red speckles all over your blouse!!😅
Pam is very careful. Jim
I don't personally like thus lady but if you wanna follow Big Brothers rules, she is very informative.
