I actually like this comic, because it shows development rather than just being another genocide comic or just talking about sans or gaster. This is a really well made dub and I hope you do more.

Chara was never bad in the first place. This Chara is like the Chara from the original Undetale: not evil, but doesn't really know how to make the right choices.
She was always good, the player was the one who chose how the game goes

yeah, especially the fact that the narrator Chara theory actually makes a lot of sense. they are a child who's last memories before they fell into the underground were the humans potentially abusing them, why would they ever try to kill the monsters that actually took care of them? that plan Chara and Asriel made to collect 7 human souls kind of makes sense for them to do because Chara has a disliking for humans. Chara isn't responsible for the genocide run because again, they are a child. the player is. i know Frisk is a child too, but they literally have no control of what they're doing 99% of the time because of the player controlling them.

I always got the impression that Chara was a troubled child with a good heart. Asriel said they weren't "the greatest person," and that they hated humanity. He also said that Chara and Frisk are different, and that Chara climbed the mountain for an unhappy reason. This gives me the impression that Chara was potentially unhappy or even suicidal, and their main flaw that makes them different than Frisk is that they couldn't forgive humans for (presumably) hurting them in some way, unlike how Frisk could forgive Asriel. Based on the genocide route, it seems like Chara hasn't forgiven Asriel theirself either, but if you believe the Chara narrator theory then they do forgive him in the pacifist route.
I feel like it's implied that Chara was abused by humans, which could explain some of their manipulative and abusive behavior towards Asriel. I think Chara was genuinely trying their best to be a good sibling to Asriel, but didn't know how. The fanon idea that they were some evil murder child who planned it all from the beginning just doesn't feel right to me. They're a kid just like Asriel, and everyone seemed to be perfectly willing to forgive Asriel for the horrible things he's done, so why can't people forgive someone who killed at most 3 people (it's debatable if they killed Flowey), way less than Asriel? That's just my opinion though, I think they're intentionally left mysterious so people can interpret them how they like.
tl;dr imo Chara is a troubled child who was trying their best to be good, but wants vengeance rather than justice.

Flowey does canonically say that Toriel had figured out who he was in previous timelines, so it's actually possible
I LOVE Chara being the main character in this story. They're so much more straight foward and approach things straight to the point sometimes it frusterated me how sweet, nice and seemingly perfect Frisk is lmao

I'm tired of people portraying Chara as evil, mad, murderer or demon.

It's funny. I remember there being a pretty big movement towards 'not evil Chara' a while back. I guess that eventually inspired people to got back to the status quo to subvert again. And now the cycle repeats.
The player drove Chara to evil in the Genocide run. Yet in Deltarune, the player ising Kris as a meat puppet drove them insane.
To be fair: Undertale barely gives us any information about Chara, and the little we DO get potrays them as a genocidal jerk, even ASRIEL admits Chara wasnt that good of a person.

And then nothing happened because Undertale Hard Mode ends after the ruins. What a realistic comic!
The creator discontinued it after the start of snowdin sadly but at least we get to see Chara's interaction with Sans and Papyrus
You know, it never occurred to me that voluntarily LOADing or RESETing a SAVE would involve actually killing yourself instead of just pressing a magic button like so many comics depict. Flowey even says in game that that was how he RESET. I guess if you've got the determination to change fate, you'd be willing to do that if it meant going back for a second chance.

The only issue with that is the fight with Flowey. He is able to load without dying so it is possible. It really depends on how you view it. This is especially true when you consider that you can only reset from the main menu, after quitting the game. Dying only allows you to load your last save. The mechanics behind it are up to heavy interpretation if you consider it anything other than a game.
@@ragingfirefrog Hmm, yeah I guess that makes sense. In Flowey's backstory he said he did it by dying, but I guess maybe you can learn to just kinda will it to happen after a while
This interpretation of Chara is such a breath of fresh air and it's so much closer to the actual canon too TTvTT I'm so glad you guys decided to do this comic! It may not be that long, but it's one of my favorites
@Fluffynator I know that Chara is not perfect, they're far from it, but they're just a kid. I mean, my brothers used to kill ants with magnifying glass and tear the wings off of lightening bugs, but that didn't make them bad.
@Fluffynator All through out the game, laughter is used as a coping mechanism for hard situations by multiple characters. Sans tells jokes, despite his depression, Toriel laughs when you kill her, Asgore laughs before he tries to kill you, and a bunch of other characters laugh as they think abt being stuck in the underground. Chara laughed for the same reason. It's a coping mechanism for them too :o
@@MentalMeles so killing monsters in the underground is like taking drugs, meaning that once you start it, it's hard to stop AND YOU'LL REGRET IT? is that why chara erases the timeline at the end of genocide, to at least save the surface world? it makes sense, but what do you think?
@@trickygamer555 Imo, Chara doesn't give a fuck about the surface world. They hate humanity, after all. I think they erased the timeline as a means of punishment. I also think that Chara killing you, regardless if you agree to join them or not, is also punishment, and even revenge, for all you had slain.

Oh, I get it. To activate Hard Mode, you have to set the name as "Frisk," which would make Frisk the first fallen human, and that would make Chara the 8th human instead, right? They swapped places?
Edit: What I'm guessing the difference in plot, and why Flowey is different, is that Frisk never suggested Chara's plan to get more SOULs for the barrier, but they did end up getting sick and dying. Asriel genuinely wanted to give them their final wish of seeing the Golden Flowers from the village. However, the humans saw Asriel and attacked, despite him and Frisk wanting to show MERCY. He ends up getting killed, and becomes convinced that all humans (other than Frisk, obviously) were horrible. He's not as sadistic and cold because Frisk's good nature being a bit of a better role model than Chara made him not completely abuse his SAVE power.

I'd like to think that (in normal ut) naming yourself Frisk meant that you never got Chara's DT meaning Frisk was at a disadvantege and that's why the game was harder, I know it doesn't make sense considering things like new enemies and snail pie which wouldn't really change just because you are weaker but maybe you could say that when Chara saw Frisk fall in fear they could destroy the underground Chara gave their powerup to the entire underground instead of Frisk? (that could actually be a cool AU honestly)

I REALLY love this comic. It really focus on chara and makes her an actually a good person, even if she teases flowey but it really helps us know shes good even though its not a lot.

This is really good. Chara is portrayed as a genocidal maniac a lot of the time, but even if they weren't that good of a person before (Asriel's words not mine) they only become so insane because the player chooses genocide

You know, I like this new interpretation of Chara. I feel like people often forget that Chara is as much of a blank slate as Frisk is, meaning that their actions and motivations can be changed at will, just like with Frisk. Yeah, Chara “technically” has a backstory with Asriel, but aside from those specific actions that Asriel told us about, we don’t really know what Chara was actually like. So it’s easy to just insert Chara into this convenient box and just label them as pure evil, when really, they were only a child who probably wasn’t measuring the consequences of what they were doing. Neither did Asriel for that matter. And for those saying “well, Chara shows up at the end of the genocide route and destroys the world, of course they’re evil!” Yeah, you know who else attempted to do that, even though they eventually got redemption at the end? Asriel. I thought it was clear that Chara’s impure intentions were due to the PLAYER’s actions, not theirs.

That was literally the most fantastic one I’ve seen yet. The emotion poured into Flowey you and Chara and how Toriel was played out, it was wonderful! It wasn’t just the regular UNDERTALE story it had a new spin. This original concept was glorious and the way that they have a dynamic hate but help kind of friendship. I nearly cried at the ending. The sincerity in Chara’s voice was moving. Thank you so much Vade!

When 'Chara' stabbed herself I was really surprised. When I thought about it I knew that it was a great way to think about resetting! Whoever made this is awesome for doing it that way! Thank you!
They changed Frisk to Chara (essentially Undertale's narrator) to make it an entirely diegetic work. THAT'S FUCKING GENIUS!
I haven’t been much into Undertale recently but this has reminded me of why I love the game and it’s fandom.

I feel like this animatic really portrays Chara quite well. She has both good qualities and bad qualities to her. She's not 'evil'. But she's not what you'd call 'good' either.

I like the idea that flowey is still a sassy ahole but not with a kill or be killed mentality. Because of frisk being the first to fall he would’ve been influenced differently, instead of thinking everyone is the issue he thinks humans are the issue. So he has like a revenge mentality, I think it’s cool I wish there was more

I... holy cow. This is absolutely incredible! The voices, the effects, the pacing--you guys did an absolutely outstanding job on this! I can imagine how much work went into this, and boy did it pay off. I've seen a lot of comic dubs, but this is definitely one of the best-done I've ever seen; the voice acting is practically professional grade. Truly well done!!
