I just fixed my HP 3100 Series after watching this video. The error message was "cradle cannot move." The important part of this video is to "remove any obstructions." There was a large glob of black ink under the black ink cartridge. Remove the ink cartridge and shovel out the ink. Be careful to not remove the piece of felt that is there to catch the wasted ink and to help it pile up. Enjoy!

There is no point in this video. If we have a Carriage Jam error message then we cannot access to setup menu or use the arrows to manoeuvre the menu. There is NO carriage jam, I have cleaned the printer and there is no debris. I have changed the ink cartridge. I have disconnected power. NOTHING WORKS @sandip darji :(

Same here. My best advice is to take it out and either go at it with a baseball bat, or better yet a high powered rifle.
Then never buy anything made by HP again.

In Step 3, my carriage does not move freely, although there are no visible blocks.

Last Step. Shove Printer off Table. Then press set up repeat over and over. Then go office space on it.

So... what can you do if all you get is the Carriage Jam error message? There is nothing there, the carriage moves fine by it self, but the error never goes away. The setup menu is not an option, heck no menus are an option.

I was able to free up my carriage by, 1). with power off , 2). Pushing the carriage, with print cartridges installed, up and to the right then left. This motion a few time makes it clear the plastic pin on the bottom that it is stuck on. Under where the carriage was stuck on the right, are two pads on springs and a plastic pin sticking straight up, that is not moving out of the way properly, I assume. These two pads and pin assembly can move independently of another tray below it. Pushing this tray towards the back, also will move the pad/pin assembly back, giving the carriage clearance to move without being obstructed by the pin that sticking straight up. I have tried finding a sweet spot to place this tray so the carriage can move freely both left and right. I hoped that going through the reset steps would self align the carriage but it doesnt appear to do so. If I place the carriage all the way to the right( home) and power off,,, after it is powered back on, it will move all the way to the left like it should? and when it returns to the right it stops short of the home position , with the carriage jam error again. Sigh. I am almost close to fixing this ??

This printer is very fragile. The gears is undersized. I change the cartridges only once and the gears made of prastic is already damage. The feature is great but the material is weak

The carriage for the ink does not move...at all. Even with turning on and unplugging it, it does not move. There is a piece in front that has the pictures of the triangle and hexagon/square is up. I am not sure if I could see it in the video. So I don't know if it is supposed to be inline with the carriage.

There are some additional trouble shooting steps for the carriage jam message that you are receiving. Please search for C01423360 on HP’s home page or using Google search. The title of the document is “'Carriage Jam' or 'Carriage Blocked' Message Displays on the All-in-One”. It has the additional trouble shooting steps.

I've got this problem on mine also but it appears that there is some spring loaded tray or something with 2 rubber pads on it that has a plastic little piece sticking up that the side of the print cartridge carriage strikes when it goes all the way to the right. I have no idea what has broken or why this little spring loaded tray is not moving back out of the way like it appears as it should be doing.

This printer just all of a sudden said there was a jam and there is nothing in there! Did all the trouble shooting stuff and still the same problem! Called HP to get an idea of what to do and since the warranty was out they would not even tell me or suggest over the phone what I should do unless I paid a Tech Fee. This is a bunch of pull and I would not recommend buying an HP Printer!! Very disappointed with HP and I will not purchase another of their products!

I can see mine's a problem with the carriage moving back and forth...what I'd have to remove is another part of the printer though. Also when I try take the cartridges out they're bumped up against the plastic thing beneath and in front of the cartridges. It seems like the whole rod it's on has settled too far down. What's the solution for that?
So glad my new job knows I can't print, sign, and scan anything in a timely manner :/

    • @justprintingaround
      @justprintingaround 8 лет назад

I understand that there is a plastic piece preventing the carriage from moving freely. Please read through: A 'Carriage Jam' or 'Carriage Blocked' Message Displays for HP Photosmart C5200 and C5500 All-in-One Printer Series - ( ow.ly/q25r302r1UZ ) and see if anything within helps to adjust that obstruction. If not, then use the link in the last step, to contact HP for servicing.

+Dr Wu Planned obsolescence or built-in obsolescence in industrial design is a policy of planning or designing a product with an artificially limited useful life, so it will become obsolete, that is, unfashionable or no longer functional after a certain period of time.[1] The rationale behind the strategy is to generate long-term sales volume by reducing the time between repeat purchases (referred to as "shortening the replacement cycle)

Pissed off that I just put a $20 cartridge in it and now I have to throw this thing in the garbage AFTER I smash it!

Out of the blue, I get a carriage jam."Open door, clear carriage jam, and then press OK to continue" No paper jam at all, something is obstructing the carriage from moving. Powered off , it cannot move freely as it says it should.. Cleaned all the pads below the ink cartridges ( which are always a circus to get in and out with every HP printer), that were on springs. I suspect the motor that powers the carriage is seized ( ie broken) I cannot determine any obstruction. HP could be way more helpful with this problem !!! I used this printer several days ago and this problem suddenly manifests itself, that is why I suspect the carriage motor crapped out. Or is there some other plastic crap that isn't being retracted as it should be, driven by some other solenoid that is burned out? What we have here is a planned obsolescence. 1. Part should break in so many hours, 2. Customer required to purchase service work or buy new printer. 3. HP creates more revenue and stays in business. It works for most companies. Frustrating though. If someone from HP could at least explain what is is the main cause for the carriage being obstructed ( besides the bogus paper jam!) , people could at least see that it is broken and move on.

The fixes on this video do nothing in my case. It seems like under the cartridge on the right side something is not right? Working fine for years barely used here & there of course now no matter what I do cannot get past the "clear cartridge jam" error. Sounds to me like these things are programmed to pop an unfixable error like this when some timer expires and they want you to buy another printer I've seen similar on a previous printer I had.

Mine did the same thing. I removed the right side cover and found that a plastic arm with 3 small gears on it had fallen off the shaft that works the carriage functions. The center gear has slipped off of the shaft and won't stay on the shaft due to wear. I had parts from a previous printer and will be attempting repairs later today. I may have to find an authorized repair center if that doesn't work out. I'll let you know what happens.

I tried fixing this error but it did not work. I even opened the thing up and cleaned out all the ink gunk in there. Still no results. I dislike how the video asks you to go to the "settings" menu, however you cannot do so when the screen displays "clear carriage jam." Therefore this video solves nothing. You can NOT bypass the "clear carriage jam screen."

+justprintingaround I went to HP searched for the CO1423360 instructions, read through the entire thing and NOTHING . It assumes you have paper jammed. There is NO paper in this machine. Tells me to gently move cartridge from left to right. This cartridge is locked tight in there, can not move it at all.. Assumes the cartridge can move at all, nothing to tell me what to do it the cartridge is frozen in place ( right side).
No help on HP site either. Waste of time.

This is really frustrating and disappointing. I bought this printer in January 2014, set it up as shown in video and manual but it kept showing me 'carriage jam' message. I went through all the solutions and the video by hp 'how to fix carriage jam' with absolutely no success. And how disappointing the video is. Video is about fixing carriage jam and there is no carriage jam in the printer per se. When you pine the top, the right hand side cartridge holders don't even move. In that video, they automatically come out. And I think that's what normal printer does. But in my case, those holders doesn't come out (move to the left). I tried using physical force, checking if there is any obstruction etc etc but they are not moving at all.
Now the thing is it's June 2014 now since I bought the printer, out of frustration I just put that in my garage and tonight when an emergent of printing some document arised, I remembered this printer and took it out of garage. However it still doesn't work with the same message. The irony is I don't even have the receipt of this printer. I do have the credit card with which I made payment. I bought this one from a local best but store. PLEASE PLEASE P,EASE HELP THIS FIXED.
