Hey you guys! Glad to finally have a reliable workstation again. There's a lot of info in the description about my old laptop and what it took to get everything Linux working on the new laptop. Sometimes I feel like the descriptions of my videos are like blog posts haha

    Congratulations, Egee! 🎉
Also, it was funny seeing you get appalled by windows and Cortana!

It was nice to watch you go trough your paces to get the new laptop up and running.
I was sitting here like: "Nope, not gonna work, needs to have bios settings altered"
I wonder in this case: can you file for a refund of the windows license that is provided with the machine since it is burned into the bios nowadays? Since you're not using it, it must be a thing one can do...
And even if possible I wonder how they deal with such a question...
The battery charging solution for the old one intrigues me. You and your dad are clearly very clever to get it fixed this way. I think most people would have brought it in for repair or might have bought a new one. I find it hard to imagine that the regular "Joe the Plumber" is going to mess with an external source to charge a lithium battery pack. Luckily the protection- and balancing electronics for the cells are located in the battery pack itself.

Haha thanks! I actually did have a shop look at the battery and they said the mainboard needed to be replaced which was some $900. That's why we rigged up our own charging circuit.
For what it's worth, there was over a week of stress & soak testing to ensure the laptop continued to work and the battery didn't blow up haha
Also, I think I'm going to use the Windows 11 install for Distro Delves and stuff like that. Might as well!

The Asus laptop? It's pretty good, I wouldn't have gotten it for MSRP though. I should make a follow up video comparing the two now that I've used the Asus for long enough.

How is it compare to ur lenovo legion now?

    • @Egeexyz
      @Egeexyz  Год назад

Good question - I should return to this review and make a part 2 because I have opinions lol. The hardware on the Strix is better but the build quality on the Legion is better. I'd still take the Strix simply for the hardware but the build quality has been disappointing.

Should have gone for a Lenovo Thinkpad (maybe a T14 gen 3 or something)
soo much more reliable than these gaming laptops

imo they are overpriced for what they offer. And needless to say, I'm not super happy with Lenovo atm

That's the best part of Linux .
CPU or mother board dies . No problem-o .
Swap the ssd/hdd to a new rig & it will run .
Only windows guys can tell if swapping windows ssd/hdd to a new rig works like linux does 🤔
