People criticizing Toyota for not going full electric, forget that the reason Toyota is so reliable is because they don't just jump on the latest technology as soon as it's available. They study it, test it, and evaluate for years to determine its reliability. I would rather have that level of dedication and wisdom from a company than have a company who only chases the latest trends, before they are proven.

THIS is the key to sustainability. It doesn't matter how "renewable" your tech is if you keep tossing it in the trash can every 5 years or less!
A lot of a car's emissions actually comes from it's construction (and raw materials), not driving it. Paying for a car that doesn't pollute while you drive it, so that all the pollution can be dumped on the manufacturer, power grid, junk yard* is basically a sin tax. No different from carbon credits, "end poverty" t shirts made in sweat shops, or paying "indulgences". It's just posturing.
*Even if recycled, there's still an energy/pollution cost.
**Someone extra observant may have noticed I didn't use the words "Global Warming", "Climate", or "CO2". There's a reason for that. "Pollution" is a proven problem I can get behind. As long as we can agree on _A_ part of the problem, with _A_ part of the solution, there's no need to wage a cultural war on semantics and opinions.

I hope Toyota continues to explore all options. Being locked into EV is myopic. Cummins has done a great thing with taking existing engine, reworking their heads and ignition to be able to run on both hydrogen and diesel! As Cummins put it. Hydrogen won't be available everywhere due to lack of infrastructure but, it may be cost effective to companies like Estes, UPS, Wal-Mart and Old Dominion to have hydrogen fueling station at their hubs. A perk is better air quality for those who work at their hubs as well. Drive down the road and if no hydrogen, just put in diesel until the next hub. It may not be a full solution but I logical step in my view.

My first car was a Toyota Corolla when I was 16. Being 16 I did not take care of it like I should. It already had well over a 100k on it when I got it. One time I ran it out of oil until till the stooped. I walked to the gas station brought 2qts of oil poured it in cranked it and drove off. I drove it for another 5 years and ended up giving it to a friend that needed a car badly. It is still in operation till this day with over 200k.
That has made a believer out of me that Toyota produces a superior car. PERIOD.

EV's may be a step to reducing pollutants in high urban areas but you offload those carbon emissions to power plants elsewhere. In truth, per mile, car emissions is higher in EVs. How is that progress and not regression? What of Toyoto Corp's lead in the industry in using hydrogen whose byproduct is pure water? Should we not explore all options? Not all new technology is good. While I believe EVs should be explored, jumping on the EV Cult train is myoptic and will prevent many from seeing the side affects of EVs. A great example, how much jungle is stripped away and how much forced child labor is used for cobalt mining in Africa? How much carbon is NOT being cleaned out of the air from the jungles lost?
