KOEI sacrificed a lot of voice actors like Terrence Stone, Jamieson Price, and Johnny Bosch in order to give us a plain looking open world Dynasty Warriors game. I don't discredit those other veteran voice actors but these 3 are my favorites in the series.
These guys are my favorite VAs in the Dynasty Warriors series 1. Douglas Rye (Cao Cao) 2. Kirk Thornton (Xiahou Dun) 3. Jamieson Price (Lu Bu) 4. Richard Epcar (Dong Zhuo) 5. Lex Lang (Zhuge Liang)
That’s actually hilarious about Cao Pi/Lu Xun 😂 Everyone else can go straight into the Dollar Tree trash bin KOEI fished them out of - ESPECIALLY SSX’s DW6 voice. That was an absolute travesty. It’s bad enough they put her in that hideously dumb outfit, but then they consciously made the warrior princess squeakier than Xiaoqiao chomping on a dog toy? Bruh.
I checked out the Dynasty Warriors Origin page on the Internet and they booked Kyle Hebert to voice Lu Bu. Well, let us hope Mr Hebert can pull off Lu Bu’s menacing aura like what Jamieson Price did.
I think the English voice acting in Dynasty Warriors peaked at 8 (except Zhang Liao's voice in the Xtreme legends). 7 was ok but it missed out some characters.
I think Another reason most of the Dynasty warriors 9 VAs quality were bad was it seems the direction for some to sound like former voice actors, For example DW9 Guan Yu seems to try to sound more more like DW 4 Guan Yu
Zhang Liao was voiced by Roger Craig Smith before but in Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends, he was replaced by a dude who kinda sounds like Steve Blum.
So as far as I know, they got the guy who did Rengoku from Demon Slayers to play Zhang Liao, Rude from Final Fantasy 7 Remake/Rebirth as Guan Yu, Commander Nitel from Star Wars as Zhang Fei, Akira Otoishi from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is going to be Zhao Yun, and we got freakin' RAM from Re:Zero as Sun Shang Xiang. This is a pretty star studded cast so far.
I was not a fan at all of the voices in DW9, I feel they should have kept the voices from dw5-8 (except 8XL Zhang Liao) with some small changes if needed; they had the strong stable of voices; such a slap in the face in my eyes
Poor Joshua Tomar gets obliterated for Zhang Liao. The crazy part is that I watch him on Oneyplays and he has proven he can mimic the last voice actor he must have been feeling pretty deranged and unhinged while walking into the DW8XL Booth since that was around the same time he burned down that orphanage because thought and I quote "Needed the land to build his new smoke factory." And I felt that fr.

While I don't mind the new voice actor's as I'm sure they did an amazing job bringing the characters to life, I still missed the old ones since their voice's are just so recognizeable
Incorrect. DW 9 has really good voices and the fact you put Sima Yi's voice on here is really odd because when you speak of "horrendous" his voice wouldn't be considered as one of the worst.
I usually just play the DW games in Dub so I can improve my English and learn new words really, doesn't have to be very, very good. Lu Bu's voices in the DW3 and DW4 clips that you showed in this video was hilarious that I thought a generic officer was speaking.
The fact that you respected the cheesy voice acting of 3 as a whole makes my entire day! I didn’t play 9, cause I just couldn’t get into it. Didn’t know it was THAT bad. I played as Sun Jian first and heard him say Wu as “ooooh”, and I almost gave up right then.
All those you sticked out on the video have been worse. But, I could add Cao Cao and Sima Shi on DW9. It was a crime what happened to their voices from DW8 to DW9, Cao Cao most specifically. Xiahou Dun also was lacking, like the same issue with DW8 Zhang Liao, in my opinion. DW9 english dub hurts the fan of the game, like if it was made in a sloppy way that you can't stand it and forced to play with the chinese or japanese dub
100% but i think they werent as bad as everyone says, I didnt mind CC or XDs VA, them living up to the last ones was impossible but from an objective point of view they werent too bad
I think Gabriel Sousa would have been a really good Zhao Yun if his voice performance in DW9 did not make him seem like he only has the lung capacity of two beans. I don't think there's a universe where I'd pick Sousa over Terrence Stone for the role, but I would love to see him get a second chance at voicing Zhao Yun just to see what he's actually capable of under proper direction (and he's not alone in that aspect, I feel that way for a lot, if not the majority of the DW9 actors. They where done so dirty and I feel so bad for them)
Xiahou Dun in DW3 was where it was at. All those ore battle introductions really set the tone. Even where he wasn't fighting like Wu Yi Ling "Sun Quan gives the order to go to war." You can just feel shit got real. Do you know who voiced him?
Since i mainly only played DW3 and DW 8 empires. The vpice acting isnt huge in DW8 but DW 3, Zhao Yun, Zhang Liao, Cao Cao, Ma Chao, Xiahou Dun, Lu Xun, Gan Ning, Guan Yu, Huang Zhong, and some others. Didnt have bad VA or anything, just the pronunciations were off but the voices imo really fit them really really well, and then i see how they are in other games and im just completely dumbfounded how it went so bad instead of being better through the years
Koei's move makes no sense at all. A game thats uses A LOT of voiced dialogues using poor quality VA not only breaks the immersion but also makes the company looks like a meme developer. Shame!
the first time I heard Zhang Liao's voice in DW8 XL, it was so bad that I switched to the original voice actors. I still wasn't happy because I was coming off of DW6 and 7, and there was some voices I really liked in there. But Zhang Liao is one of my favorite characters and I could not go through an entire game where I hated his voice
4:03 SSX in 6 hurted me is much, her voice and design were perfect in 5 and when I played 6 I was so disappointed to the point of hating her. While I appreciate it more nowadays I can't deny how much I hated everything about her in 6.
I feel like this video is Nightowl's excuse to roast DW9 some more Also, Hotttake... I love Zhang Liao's XL voice more than the regular one... It had more charm and distinction compared to the other gruff generals in which there are plenty :)
I never listened to the English voices in 9. I always kept it on Chinese. Tbh, the English VA was always terrible, going back to the 2nd game in the series. It was never good. Sometimes, it would be passable, but that was as good as it got. I hope KOEI keeps the Chinese VA for Origins.
Blame them for not want to put the money and effort like they did for DW7. They've disassociated themselves from Voice Group. Inc for localization and hire Voxx Studios (the ones from DW9) for that DW9 localization. Don't expect the legacy voices we used to hear would ever return again... DW8 is the last time and that game have no narration is already a dead giveaway.
I can go with a lot of choices on this list but It's hard to ignore the bias here.😅 Only because their are more fitting candidates for this list. I'll give you a couple examples: "yOu FlAmMiNg IiidIoTs!!!" "Get a taste of myy MmAaAaAgIiIiCc" Also I think DW9 Sima Yi has the best Sima Yi voice in the series because he sounds more like a starship commander. You guys can fight me in the comments about it. Well, the voice actress of Sun ShangXiang from DW6 has improved into a more mature but tough girl in DW 7 & 8. I still think Doug Stone's Voice is better than DW9.

Lu Meng in DW7 had one of the best voices in the series, but in 8 and 9 he sounds like a little kid trying to pretend he is older.
