I miss that self-deprecating sense of humor. I was lucky enough to meet him in 2008 in New Orleans. TON played the House of Blues (Jäegermeister tour, IIRC) and Pete was hanging out in a sports bar across the way. My friends had gone in to use the bathroom before getting in line to get in, and Pete noticed my friend’s rare concert tee and struck up a conversation. I was outside waiting on them when they called me to tell me they were in the bar talking to Pete. When I called bullshit, they handed the phone to him and there came that voice. I nearly threw the phone down from the shock!
My friend and I hurried across the street to the bar and we all got to sit and talk with Pete for awhile. We got a photo with him and I just remember him being warm and witty and GOD, so tall. Watching these old interviews just brings the memories flooding back.

Josh was giving $hit answers because all she cared about was Pete! He could tell that pretty quick - she didn't follow up with his one word/one sentence responses to get him to give more. She just moved right along to another Pete question. :( Yes, he had a HUGE part in the band, but Josh was sitting right there. It was just plain rude to ignore him.
@christeenduh k Josh and I spoke for about 3 minutes before the interview began. He showed me the tattoo he got on his stomach. "FTW" in sky blue, fat bubble letters. He was really out of it, speaking slowly. I asked him if he needed anything. He said he had taken something for the pain. His mind was altered. The schtick he stuck to was not to give more than one word answers until he wanted to impart more about working on the "Black No. 1" video.

Bloody kisses was actually about his cat Venus.. which he was devastated about losing 😢 but he said a tall scary looking guy singing about their cat dying no one would get so he made it a love story - ❤

People probably think Josh saying “I don’t like music” is an odd response, but he actually stopped playing music all together and became an EMT if I’m not mistaken.
There's a hilariois irony to the fact that his blatant lie wrapped in sarcasm flew right over your head as if thrown like a piece of airdried salami by a furious boogersugar-fueled Kenny from a catering table at a 4-band C-package tour stop.

These "new" (to RUclips and to me) Type O interviews/videos are so good, hope they keep popping up like they have been. Life-long Type O fan!!! Can't wait to hear what Kenny and Johnny are doing with the Crowbar fellas!

I didn't know the band was unhappy with the Black No.1 video. Personally I liked it. Kinda campy like the song. I really miss this band. I usually don't get phased when a musician/celebrity passes away, but Steele's passing was a punch to the gut. RIP.
I feel so lucky to have seen them perform. Peter is so serious and intense. Im not sure I could form words if I was as close to him as you are. There is no one on this planet that even comes close to his look or vocal and lyrical ability. Deeply miss him. The song Nettie is so endearing. Im just now learning he didnt share his music with his family.

I like how when the question came up about the videos Josh was like "be careful" lol Knowing where he was probably going to go. 🤣I miss Peter's dry sense of humor and self ridicule, and the whole band. They were perfect together, at least everything I ever witnessed. The After Dark DVD, I watch it from time to time, and it never gets old. lol
Peter and Josh are simply iconic. Peter was a genius!
His voice alone is…not like anyone else. Combined with his looks, jfc. Probably the hottest man who has ever existed at the time of this interview. It’s interesting he greatly feared death, people tend to have accurate premonitions of their own impending death and his would be an example. I think he considers the classic existential notion of taking one’s life as heroic precisely because he fears death taking him so it’s an obsessive way to think about having power over that yourself or “cheating death.”
Actually he was desperately searching for his twin flame as his associates were having partners and kids, it really hurts when you have romanced someone but that person turns out to be a biohazard. His odd lifestyle is the cause of his premature demise. If he had a loyal partner and some offsprings, he would have been happily alive.
I never knew Peter was a fan of Devo, that’s so awesome!
Even Tony Iommi had praised him.

I interviewed local bands from Boston on a college radio station without a camera present. It's quite a different experience with a camera present and with your favorite band even though I previously acted on stage and in student films. I was already amped to meet them but then adding the on-camera conversation was a whole new level to absorb in a very short time frame. I paused a few times at first because their schtick was against my intention of making them shine. Peter could see this and was patient, which helped me get more comfortable with asking him questions. It started to flow naturally when I got more than one word phrases. Josh was just not being helpful.

I haven't explained it well here that the producers, and even the regular host of this cable access show, said (paraphrasing), "You do it, you know their music, we're not ready. I'm too nervous." It took me all of these years to get up the courage to post this video because I don't like how I appear so "green" (LOL). I never felt like it was such a big deal to interview bands who I didn't know as well. Knowing Type O Negative's history too much put more pressure on me. I had what they now call imposter syndrome in the moment but pushing through it gave me more confidence to meet other people later and interview them. The artists whom I met later were those I knew, admired, but I wrote instead of had it be video taped. Still, I am always nervous that I sound like an amateur to people whom I really admire. Practice is the only way I get better at it. I no longer work in the music industry but attend lots of live music events.

Kudos to the interviewer. Those are some of the most unique, well thought out, and in-depth questions I’ve heard anyone ask the band. She did an amazing job, especially for a first interview! Peter can be a bit direct or shocking in his speech and Josh seems to be not excited about interviews, but she did well wrangling those two lummoxes! /j 😁

I've recently become sort of a fan of Type O Negative. I like to work out while listening to some of their songs and also because Peter clearly took care of his body and general appearance (before the drugs appeared), so he inspires me in that sense as well.
Of course, being 6'8 and having green eyes helped, lol... Such a shame he didn't have kids. What a waste of genes!

Pete got me into Laibach, one of my favourite bands alongside Type O Negative. Always love hearing him in interviews sharing information about things, there's always new nuggets of information that I end up picking up when I hear them and it's really fascinating.

@swagmeister I personally preferred the phrase "taking one's own life" because I thought of the word "suicide" as nondescriptive. I couldn't even say "suicide" when I was that close to Peter. "Taking one's own life" resonated with me more at that moment. I respected Peter for being so candid every moment he answered. He never for one second wanted to just get it over with, the interview. I think we connected without talking about the emotional despair he experienced that brought him to that dark place.
When I saw T.O.N. open for Nine Inch Nails about a month later, I talked with Josh about that moment. He said that Peter would have shown me the scars on his wrists if I asked to see them. He has no shame over what he did. He learned from it.

Pete was the real deal, although he was a tortured soul he expressed it as sonic therapy through his music and rumor has it he found Jesus in the end so if that is true I’d like to meet him in heaven someday, I saw them 3 times, first on the October rust tour in 97, second at ozzfest 97 and his final days in 2009 or so, he looked so bad on that last tour I prefer not to remember him like that, R.I.P. green man

He was desperately searching for his twin 🔥. He was depressed due to that and hence prefer booze and coce. Also his dad's demise in 1995 valentine's day had affected him who was just 74 or 73 back then.

3:55 excellent interview, being a fan who knows their songs really helps with better questions; he worked for BK parks & rec, like the authentic artist he is, he carved time and space in his leisure to express himself because he had to.
It was asked where he worked and they stopped taping; called cut to talk about it. He didn't want it to get out where he worked because he didn't think his employers would approve.

Sounds like she was making up questions as she was interviewing. Kinda unprepared. She’s flustered. I mean look at him ❤. I would be too.
as previously stated, I prepared questions but didn't realize they would use a schtick to answer in a way that sabotages their chances for people liking them. once Peter saw that I knew their material, he warmed up to the idea of doing a proper interview, and then it became more natural.
