Wonder why the penitent one just keels over like that? Unless that man in the very end being "born" is him and it was some sort of beginning of a metamorphosis...... buy i think the devs hinted at the man at the end being something to do with the miracle aka a new form for IT or somethin.
The Penitent One was dead before the story we see him in even began, and was only revived by the miracle to complete his penance. Once he killed the High Wills, we see the creations of the Miracle disintegrate in the following cutscene, so it would be safe to say the Penitent ones cycle of rebirth would also be broken, effectively killing him. As for the man at the end, I interpret it to be a reincarnation of the miracle, though it’s entirely up to speculation. They don’t give us much to work with.
It seems like a pretty cut-and-dry Christ figure. He shouldered the ultimate blasphemy so as to absolve humanity of sin, as evident by the disintegration of Mea Culpa (meaning Through my fault, guilty of blaspheming against the miracle), and rose again. Deogracias and Crisanta carrying the Penitent one being a depiction of Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus in the Deposition of Christ.
It's, it's just... AWESOME!!! I think about ending like that before and NOW that's it! Perfect. Now I want to see Crisanta like a main hero of Blasphemous sequel! Rest in peace now, Penitent One!
The Penitent One reminds me alot of the Doom Slayer in Doom 2016. / Doom Eternal series, and this ending reminds me of the Ancient Gods Pt.2 (especially the tomb scene). I wonder if Doom Eternals devs played this game before the final Doom Eternal release.
1 - Visit Echoes of Salt and find Perpetva's shrine (Resting Place of the Sister) before you fight Esdras. (If he dies, you cannot do the new ending) 2 - Meet Esdras at the top left of the Brotherhood of Silent Sorrow, the place where the Penitent One found the Mea Culpa. He'll give you the Key Grown From Twisted Wood, and with it in hand, the next step is to go to the Library of Negated Words and find Diosdado. (The NPC with keys all over his body) 3 - Talk with Diosdado and solve his problem with the "noise" by killing an enemy that is constantly smashing his head on a wall a few rooms in front. After that, return where you first meet Diosdado and he'll open a secret door for you. Inside, you'll find a Forth Visage, that will ask you to retrieve it eyes. 4 - You need to do this step before you fight against Crisanta. (If she dies, you can't proceed with the new ending.) The Visage eyes are with two of the new bosses from the DLC, a giant snake called Sierpes and Isidora, the Voice of the Dead. Find and defeat both, then return to the Visage. It will give you a heart for you to put into your sword - and be warned once that heart is place into Mea Culpa, it can't be removed. 5 - Place the heard you received from the Visage into Mea Culpa, then proceed and fight against Crisanta as usual, but at the end of the battle, she will not be killed and will move to the same place Esdras is. Go until there and talk with her, and she'll give you an item. The rest you need to do is just like if you wanted to achieve the original best ending: Destroy all Confessor Statues and complete all their arenas until you receive the item Cvstodia of Sin, then proceed to fight Escribar and climb until the throne. If you did everything right, the new and canon ending shall play alone.
It's at a cist though of not receiving instant health from Bile Flask but rather really slowly slowly regens and is cancelled when hit. It makes the game challenging in it's own way, I prefer True Guilt mode IMO
