My favorite boss fight was definitely Afilaor. His unique theme with the incredible atmosphere was really well done. Also Afilaor means sort of "Sharpener" in Spanish and sharpeners in Spain would use a flute to give signal to people in houses as they passing by. They would have a sharpening tool with a pedal just like the boss itself. Developers really outdid themselves with this game in my opinion. Can wait for new updates and dlcs.

Last part of his name “Emery” in the bible is refered as “hardworking” or “diligent”, wich also pays off with all the swords and knives in the area he’s been sharpening over who knows how many years. I love visual storytelling like this

Knife sharpeners like that, with their iconic flute, are present all across the Hispanic world. We have them in Latin America, too.

Idk I found svsona just super annoying and was straight RNG for what she'd chain together. And the fact that the the platform can appear anywhere for you to get under is pretty irratating cause you have no idea where it's going to be. And there's times I'd be under it and still get hit. Sometimes I'd jump and Id be just locked into the bosses body unable to move. And the sailor guy I mean his boss music never did actually start. Common bug, lots of complaints on this one.

Eviterno's not the final boss. Like the first game, the penultimate boss is harder than the final one. It's an unspoken rule of videogames that giant bosses are super easy, and bosses that are the same size as you are impossibly difficult.

    • @csl9495
      @csl9495 Год назад +3

I found 2nd form eviterno hard too. He's too fast and his moves/patterns where less predictable to me than others.
But then I found a way to cheese it. I use the blood sword. Equip fervor friendly charms, such as reduce fervor cost in half, recover fervor boost on every hit. Also charms that boost my attack and blood swords attack. I equip the stop time Spell.
You simply stop time and attack. You can go into blood pact before or after, and in this mode you obviously get an attack boost and leech health back per attack. You can cast the stop time Spell 2 to 3 times in a row, because your constantly generating more fervor with every hit. You do this at least 3 or 4 times and then done. In between trying to get enough hits to recover your fervor, you do have to know the boss pattern and movement enough to survive, but this made 2nd and 3rd form last boss easy.

In hk, for example, there are plenty of things you can still do after defeating hk, and having a stronger final boss justifies spending time trying to complete the game after you beat the normal ending.

After completing this absolute fucking masterpiece of a game, here are my boss rankings based on a mix of difficulty and how much fun I had with their fights:
    11. Faceless One
Sure, he's the tutorial boss, but he's actually a bit of a challenge unlike the tutorial boss from B1, as he was able to kill me unlike the Warden. Unfortunately for Faceless One, I no hit him after that death, so he gets a spot in dead last.
    10. Svsona
On top of being rather easy in my experience, I just don't think she's that fun. Her bullet hell attack is pretty simple to dodge and it seemed like she rarely used anything other than that and the big laser when I fought her. She does have great lore though and Yerma's story was one of my favorite parts of the game.
    9. Incarnate Devotion
Possibly controversial opinion, but I thought IC was an absolute cakewalk, especially compared to the absolute thrashing that I had to go through to reach him. I beat him first try with next to no effort, and they were one of two bosses I never died to alongside Svsona. For all the buildup they had throughout the entire game their battle was very lackluster.
    8. Sinodo
A very fun fight that I found to be lacking in challenge. All of his attacks are very fun to dodge, especially the bullet hell attack. I found his final phase where he sets the floor on the fire to be a neat way of utilizing the item gained in his area, but the placement of the cherubs can make it a bit of a pain if he changes phases in a bad spot like he did for me. I died to him once and it was mostly because I only realized he could heal right at the end of my first attempt. If I had realized that earlier I don't think I would have died to him.
    7. Odon
First off, I love how Odon shows up on the bridge out of nowhere and fights you as a miniboss. It got me really excited to fight him, but I don't think his proper battle lived up to that initial encounter. He was fun, don't get me wrong, but he wasn't incredibly difficult and his goons really dragged the fight's quality down.
    6. Orospina
A lot of people think Orospina is one of the easiest bosses and I do agree that she is much easier than the other two guardians. I chose to fight her in a rapier duel since doing otherwise felt wrong and it resulted in a satisfyingly challenging fight where both parties are constantly moving in to out land blows on each other. She's a great fight that's just barely unable to make it into the top five.
    5. Benedicta
Best arena in the game, full stop. The constantly moving elevators add so much to this fight and when Benedicta practically cuts the arena in half by sending one of them falling into the abyss it makes everything a lot more stressful. My one complaint regarding the elevators is that they can sometimes put you in places that make certain attacks like the projectile circle feel undodgeable. Benedicta also gets harder to hit once that elevator drops, meaning you have to carefully time your attacks in between weaving through the shitload of projectiles she throws your way. Also, her music is one of my favorite boss themes in the game, so that's a plus.
    4. Lesmes and Infanta
The Hydrogen Bomb and the Coughing Baby have come to an uneasy alliance. So when I first fought Lesmes I noticed two things: he was taking an unusually high amount of damage and he seemingly hadn't changed phases once, unlike every other boss I had fought so far. Both of these things gave me the suspicion that something was up, but I was still surprised to see a Nome from Little Nightmares pop out of Lesmes' coffin thingy after I killed him and was even more surprised when they pulled an Ornstein and Smough on me in phase three. L&I are an incredible boss that force you to get good at managing your bile flasks throughout the different phases and keeping track of multiple targets in the final phase, and I'm very glad that my favorite area of the game has such a good boss at the end of it. Side note, I know I mentioned Infanta looks like a Nome, but Lesmes is just the Undead Cyclops from Castle Crashers. I can't unsee and now you can't either.
    3. Alifaor
This guy is really fucking creepy. He's apparently based on Spanish knife sharpeners, but I didn't know this until after I beat the game. Alifaor has a phenomenally unsettling design that just does not fit in the world of Blasphemous at all, and I think that's the point. Everything about him feels wrong and out of place and the fact that he has absolutely no lore whatsoever only enhances that. He's fucking tough and a very fun fight to boot, but I think his strongest aspect is the sense of unease I had when fighting him that only left me once he was dead.
    2. Radamés
Radamés is a fucking amazing fight and is brutally difficult for someone who a lot people fought as their first proper boss. I fought him first because I figured I needed Veredicto to get past the gate in Palace of Embroideries and decided I might as well finish up in Sacred Entombments while I'm at it. When I got to Radamés I was blown away by how much better he was than basically every boss from the first game. He kicked my ass six ways from Sunday and it was great. After like an hour of struggling with his first phase I finally got him down to phase two, and the feeling of "oh shit" that hit me when he pulled himself out of the ground and started healing via Saturn devouring his son reference as the music suddenly swelled was fucking palpable. I was probably stuck on that second phase for around two to three more hours and when I finally beat him it felt amazing. His theme is also my favorite boss music in the game, especially when it hits phase two. He'd be number one if it weren't for...
    1. Eviterno, First of the Penitents
This guy. This. Fucking. Guy. This boss left me speechless. His first phase almost mirrors Escribar's, being kinda easy with him primarily attacking by throwing his balls at you. But when you whittle him down your asshole better be ready because all hell is about to be let loose. He draws Crisanta's sword from her chest and channels his inner Artorias, pose and all, before deciding he's going to make good on that promise of you being the last Penitent. Eviterno wiped the god damned floor with me for hours and for several attempts I legitimately couldn't even get a single hit in on him because he was moving too fast and knocking me around so much. You have to give him your utmost respect if you want to win, because if you don't he will kill you in seconds and fttingly enough, I haven't had a rush like that fighting a boss since I first fought Artorias. But when you finally learn when to dodge, when to parry, when to jump, and when to attack, landing that final blow on him and avenging Crisanta felt incredible. Eviterno is, for my money's worth, the true final boss of Blasphemous 2 and one of the greatest bosses I have ever seen in a video game.

It makes sense lore-wise, though. The previous game was all about the Miracle and the High Wills inflicting horrific/ironic punishment upon a corrupted population that would attack you on sight because they were victims of happenstance, after all. They were mindless minions. This time around, however, the punishment happens to the regular folk that will aid you, and the villains are now mostly direct agents of the powers-that-be. The Miracle needs them to be somewhat lucid.

He has some patterns to watch for in P2 that can help. Whenever he rushes at you to swing upwards from the ground he follows up with attacking behind you and then a big swing with the shockwaves (you can air dash through and get some hits). Try not to get cornered where you can't air dash through the shockwaves.
When you have some distance after he does a beam he'll sometimes leap to you, just slide under and get some hits.
His big slash in the air you get a feel for when it's about to come, try to be moving and slide a bit late (as slide s should avoid the attack) and better to slide out with s than slide too early and be caught at the edge. He's vulnerable to several hits after it, except that once he does his summon of all the other penitents he may follow up with 1-2 shockwaves.
That's what I remember off the top of my head. Good luck!

For me the bosses in this game are easier than in the first one. They're spectacular and fun to fight of course, but easier. I think it's because of the increased mobility from the new relics. That would explain why my two first bosses (aside from the faceless one), radames an afilaor, costed me more than 20 attempts each but from orospina and onward they were mostly first try, or maximum 5 attempts.

I think we should wait for NG+ before jumping into conclusion which game's bosses are more difficult. I think Blasphemous 2's bosses just feel easier because of the increased mobility and how overall the bosses are distributed in the game. In B1 the game didn't shy away from pitting you against bosses such as Tres Angustias and Our Lady of the Charred Visage. But I think e.g a Sínodo, Svsona or Benedicta would have been an overkill in early game. Besides I think B1's boss difficulty really drops down after Esdras:
      - Melquiades is a pretty chill boss with really easy to dodge telegraphed attacks
      - I admit that I suffered a bit with Exposito due to the Snake's unpredictable behavior but once I figured out that you can nuke that boss with Debla of the Lights and with this strategy you can end the entire boss fight in like 10-20 seconds.
      - Quirce was I think a fair and square boss with really easy to learn dodge patterns
Moreover I have to add that B1 also feels more difficult because of the early bosses, especially because of the aforementioned Tres Angustias and Our Lady. Tres Angustias isn't particularly a hard boss but it has a really demanding platforming section and the player quite likely still in the process of learning how to parry. Other than these the boss isn't particularly difficult. Our Lady is not going to lie was a bit too much for an early game boss. All of her attacks are elemental and at that point of the game, even if you went to the Convent last from the 3 starting destinations, your healthpool still won't be that high to tank her damage. Also the game kind of poorly communicated that you can reflect some of her attacks to her and not to mention that it's up to RNG where her weak point will be when she relocates.
I wouldn't talk too much about the Amenacidas, Laudes, Sierpes and Isidora because they were later additions and we are yet to know how B2 will be extended in the future.

This video is fascinating and frustrating at the same time.
Every time I'm stucked on a boss, I come here looking for any trick I could have missed. I don't know why since the answer's always the same : I just sucks :)
1 poor minute to take Sidono down is just astonishing. He doesn't even have the time to show its last phase! I'm very close to beat him, he's not as hard as it looks on other videos, but he's not as easy as it seems when looking at yours ;)
I'm a little curious about two things :
    - what's your build ? Judging on your health bar we're basically at the same point in the game, but you seem to hit him way harder than I do.
    - is there a distance, a special timing or something in order to dash through the fire pillar? Cause half the time, it hurts me when I dash through it. Not too much but it obviously shoudln't.
Anyway, congrats for the fights, especially Lesmes/Infanta which is very hard at the beginning of the game.

    • @CrankyTemplar
      @CrankyTemplar  Год назад +1

I think they buffed a few fights since I did this (particularly Svsona) so this might be easier than it is now but keep in mind you're seeing a successful clear - I have plenty of fails learning the fight and many dumb mistakes made where I took damage (and having to listen to Eviterno's speech AGAIN).
I definitely was stacking damage boosting altarpieces especially the one that gives extra damage when all bile flasks are used but I don't remember my full build. I may have put it in the description but I know I responded to other questions of my build in the comments. I used the rapier for most bosses (except Svsona since prior to the buff you'd do 1 damage with the electricity effect active) as the electricity was extra damage that stayed as long as you weren't hit. There is an altarpiece to reduce the amount lost on hit from everything to one full counter.
Air dashing before making contact with the pillar should be fine for dodging it.
Good luck with the remainder of your playthrough!

    • @Khamsinaeve
      @Khamsinaeve Год назад +1

@@CrankyTemplar Thanks a lot for the answer. I wasn't aware of the "empty flask altarpiece". I had noticed your flasks were empty but I was like "okay, this is about performance, there's nothing wrong with showing off a little" (sorry about that :))
They clearly buffed a few things. It's actually pretty obvious with the Lesme/Infanta fight, the "hit the coffin" trick doesn't work anymore, it barely hurts Infanta. The funny thing is that it really made me questionning myself at the time. I thought I was missing something, I was feeling super weak regarding all the videos I could find, although I already had most of the upgrades accessible at this point of the game. Since I couldn't remember being desperately looking for tips on YT for any boss in Blasphemous I, and since the game in itselfs seemed easier, the only logical explanation was that I was ahead of the critical path. I can guess why they buffed some boss fights (apart from those, Blasphemous II is way too easy for a game basing most of its marketing on difficulty), but I'm not sure it was for the best.
Another funny thing is that I've beaten Sidono on the first shot today, with almost no damage. I tryied a very stupid thing : combining all the "anti-fire" rosary beads (I never thought it could work and I'm still not sure it did since I've almost done a "perfect"). Then I tried to have it doing its last phase right in the middle of the arena so I could finish it before it throws its last fire pillar. It was... surprisingly easy. Still, I can confirm the boss has been buffed. I think it's almost impossible now to kill it before the last phase, or only with a lot of luck.
Anyway, it doesn't change anything about my congrats on your video. I'm well aware you kept the best shots, but still, I'm very impressed with your skills. Same thing about Blasphemous I (I'm looking at the video right now). Saying I sucked of course was an hyperbole, I'm actually pretty good at 2D action/platformers (I saw a lot of other videos about Blasphemous II and I'm clearly in the top half), but I can't imagine the time and dedication required to mastered a gameplay the way you did. Well done.

Thanks! I think it's more to put things in perspective for folks that it takes a good bit of practice that otherwise goes unseen. When I started with Hollow challenge videos I never particularly thought I'd be good enough to do hitless challenges (and there's still plenty that are beyond me as I suck pretty bad at Dark Souls/Sekiro type games) but it's been fun to try and I like trying to see if I can get better. And if folks are entertained or are helped by the videos that's definitely a huge plus!
Blasphemous I had fewer damage boosts if I remember right (I think primarily one of the Mea Culpa hearts along with the final one for Ending C, plus the 5% one and the one that gave 15% from all flasks used). The second game did make it fun to experiment with the number of altarpiece combinations and the sheer amount of damage boosting you could do. I think it was really only Sinodo where it got a bit crazy with skipping phases.

I think the reason you might find them easy, is because you already finished the first game, so you have experience in movement of the penitent one. I assume like it because I managed to finish most bosses within one try in blasphemous 2 but in the first blasphemous it took me ages because I wasn't experienced with movement.

@@yarinice1 so the miracle is god, the high wills is the trinity (father son and holy spirit, 3 heads lol), and the twisted one and penitent one are both… jesus? the twisted one dies on a stake and the penitent one dies for the cvstodian’s sins and came back to life.
but why was the penitent one’s brotherhood excommunicated? they literally could not have said anything blasphemous. what did they do?
if the miracle choose the high wills to speak for it, and the high wills chose the old man, then why did the miracle bring the penitent one back and gave him a sword to kill the old man? friendly fire?
why did i kill all of the high wills’ servants, for the high wills to replace all of its employees with new ones in barely any time in b2? are they volunteers? do they get employee benefits for working under the new high wills? some amount of time has to have passed between b1 and b2 for infrastructure to be built and new goons to be hired, so how long has passed? because the heart appears almost instantly after the penitent one was entombed so it can’t have been that long.
and lastly, what is the miracle, and why is it such a dick?
explanations and/or reddit links are welcomed

@@todd3143 I think the miracle is a force of nature, and not a sentient entity. However, the high wills are definitely sentient entities with their own agenda - to expand their influence in the land of infinite processions or whatever its called.
The brotherhood gets killed off because the bishop sees his death by the hands of the penitent one and he literally can't tell him apart from anyone else in the brotherhood. Ironically, I think it's that exact killing that made the penitent one go ahead and try eliminating the bishop.
