Thank you!! It was important to me to not scare people away, but still acknowledge the dangers that do exist.

You’re a very good communicator. I’m showing my wife some of your videos, to relieve he mind about me… or about us both while out exploring. I use Tylenol PM and downloaded white noise, in the sleep department

thank you so much! I'm glad they can be helpful for you and your wife :). Tylenol PM and white noise sound like a great combo for sound sleep!

I lie to people all the time on trail. Fake name, fake home town, how long I’m out for etc.. most people are just asking because it’s chitchat anyways and won’t remember.

Yeah that's kind of what I figure too, not necessarily badly intentioned, but can be unsettling to be asked!

You always have thoughtful, intelligent suggestions and observations, and I agree being I’ve spent 90% of my miles solo.
Good tip about not disclosing info too readily to strangers, and similarly good to keep mental tabs on them, how many in their party, where they are staying/traveling, in case you need help for some reason.
We talked about Tea as a mood elevator esp at high altitude when you get that funky sad feeling .. For sleeping at altitude, when you get that waking up over and over thing, I use a prescription pill that helps eliminate C02, called Acetazolamide. It’s basically a water pill and very safe, but sulfa allergy people should not use it and most Drs will prescribe a dose for you if you ask for it.
Thanks for the great videos! 5,000 miles!!! That’s impressive, Elise !

Thank you so much! Especially happy to hear that from someon with so much solo experience. And yes! Maybe I'll have to do a video on ideas/tips for high altitude hikes. Thanks so much for watching!

Thank you for the shout out and great tips!!
Of course sometimes we go solo because schedules are hard to coordinate or it’s hard to find the right friends… but also, it’s so wonderful to step away from all implicit or explicit caregiving that is part of our lives and just be a feral animal.
I’ll add that I started sleeping better at night when I also took short naps directly in the dirt during the day.

thank you for all the wonderful insights you shared with me! And yep it's good to be able to go solo even if we have accumulated backpacking friends. Love a good dirt nap and a good romp in the woods being feral.
