It's truly a masquerade deck since any card could have pretended to be the the Illicit Masquerade and no game would play differently since the card was never played. Classic Crim building a deck around a card he is never going to play.
The discipline on that Bant Planeswalker/tokens opponent. The possibility that he had the Sunfall the whole time and just chose to never use it until it was the right time. Chef's kiss.
This is fitting though. Everybody that made a mill masquerade deck for standard ran into the "I can never cast it, have it, or have the right situation for it and win/loose because of other stuff..."
I think a dimir draw-discard shell might be better for it, but as you say you need to be in the right situation for it to do anything, and in that shell Reenact the Crime is straight up better at doing something broken on turn 4. Masquerade can do cool stuff on about turn 7 or 8, but in this Standard the game is either well over by then, or one of you is playing full control (or you're both playing jank nonsense).
I ran into a geological appraiser/ discover deck yesterday that had some combo loop set up where I believe the cards would trigger multiple times and return themselves to the hand or the deck (missed out on ixalan so was one of my first encounters with that type of deck). All I remember is him discovering for what felt like 10 minutes in a row and hitting nothing but other loop enablers. I don't know what his game plan was but he just kept on discovering and discovering to just die the next turn
@hmvollbanane1259 the point is to eventually discover into a quint, and they probably kept whiffing since hitting even one would have won them the game lol
Hey you're building Illicit Masquerade the same kinda way I have tried: unfocused as all hell and if it works, it's usually cos the other cards were good and masquerade does very little. I've tried a lot of Abzan; Insidious Roots triggers twice from Masquerade, and thenMondrak and White Ojer are fun things to bring back. I've tried Bart and Guardian of Benalia to do a Masquerade - discard big threat - sacrifice to bring it back combo on opponents end step. Fun as hell when it works but it's too many pieces. Just making a few tokens incidentally along with Roots for ramp, seemed to be more consistent (but at that point I'm just casting the threats directly). I think a Dimir, draw -> discard shell might work. Issue is Reenact the Crime might just be better at a similar thing; and that's kinda the whole deal with Masquerade, it's such a cool card but anything you do with it, it seems like something else in this Standard is doing it faster or more comfortably.
You know, you should probably adjust your title to something like "Sultai Self Mill Standard", since, you know, you never once played Illicit Masquerade.
Seems like a pretty greedy deck for Masquerade. I feel just running little dudes would be good enough to get some value. Still not amazing, but at least there's some situations where it works.
Coming from a player who's getting back into MTG it's impossible to follow these videos. Can't tell what the cards are. The game is so quick that you can't follow along.
@lindzeesouperocd7558 lol, I have no clue who he is. I'm too new to know any of these guys. I took a 20-year break from the game. Some friends pulled me back in with Commander. Can more experienced players follow these videos? How do you tell what codes are being played?
I'd recommend MTG pro player "Luis Scott-Vargas" channel as he plays vintage cube which has most of mtg's iconic cards and explains his thinking as he plays the cards.
That’s understandable, but you should know we are near the end of the standard season before a new set comes out. Cards are explained in more detail when they are new or less meta. At this point for anyone who watches regularly, every card has been explained so many times that doing so again isn’t entertaining. I would get bored if the videos were slower, and I say this as someone who hasn’t even played for over 2 years.
Love this build and the channel. Low key y’all inspired me to finally hit record and start my own Magic Channel. Hope you can check it out sometime! Peace ✌️
Who in their right mind plays a token deck, thats trying to win with board presence but wih sunfall in it?! Thats the most quesionable inclusion in a deck ive seen ever
Wow this was a boring set. The deck never really did anything fun; i guess we were just supposed to be entertained by Crim's "hilarious" nicknames for cards.
My favorite part of the video was when Crim cast Illicit Masquerade in the Illicit Masquerade deck
Then he yelled "Its masquing time"
Illicit masquerade didn’t hit the field once 💀
Click bait! 😡
Exactly, I hate clickbait videos like that
Saved me time. Now I can re-watch something else.
Ouch mate. This is a stone cold dick killer of a comment.
This Comment is Correct.

HEY, i really like this card.
Can we have another attempt where it actually gets cast/used?
crim you forgot to cast masquerade
My favorite part is when you played illicit masquerade
"does the opponent not respect rule zero?" i lost it
Illicit Masquerade is a great card to discard
Is Illicit Masquerade in the room with us???
I think I ordered Caca-pony Shrimp at Bonefish restaurant last week.
What a showcase. Masquerade is such a powerfull card.
You should try Mardu Mascarade with blood tokens to enable discard and Gleeful Demo to put bodies out there to put counters on
Crim in the last game: Call an ambulance!
But not for ME!
>mfw I had a streak of playing seven games where I never drew dragonstorm in my dragonstorm deck

My favorite part was when Crim said "it's illicit masquarin time" and illicit masquared all over the place
What an interesting video. I wonder 🤔 if he'll cast illicit masquerade?
5:51 Liliana value babyyyyyy

I'm here for swoles of the lost tbh
My fave was " that cooks, of this card really does cook" 😂😂😂😂
6:35 what's that card now? Mega weenie hut jr.?! 😂😂😂
If I remember correctly from my Crim-English phrase book, Mega Weenie Hut is Warleader's Call?
Seems like a pretty greedy deck for Masquerade. I feel just running little dudes would be good enough to get some value. Still not amazing, but at least there's some situations where it works.
btw crim, according to google, there’s like 80-100 billion cells in each human brain (before alcohol, I guess)
Some of the opponent's decks make me question if this is brawl gameplay 😂
This thumbnail is great
He definitely cast Illicit Masquerade multiple times, but the games were probably just bad for content. I could not care less honestly.
A **WHAT** COUNTER???
Nice rock
Nice Video
Ok but that bant token/superfriend deck looked kinda neat
Why even upload the video if you're not even gonna feature a single game where you cast the card?
nice pet

Yeah this isn't super new player friendly but I think Seth does a better job of that often. Or other channels sorry
It's just this guy... He's pseudo liked.

Tokens are only to protecc planewalkers, the deck looks pretty neat
It was a planeswalker good stuff deck

70 views in 2 minutes? Man, mtggoldfish fell off…
