I went to school with him. I'll always remember him singing "That's What Friends Are For" at school assembly the year he graduated. It was beautiful. Very sad that he died so young.

Michael Johns was one of my favorites from Idol. I had the pleasure of meeting him at a meet-and-greet in 2009. Even got my pic taken with him, which I will forever treasure. He was extremely nice and down to earth. I took it so hard when he passed away, and I feel so terrible for his wife. I'm still in shock 2 years later. :(
America once again failed to vote correctly or not at all! This guy did a great job. As someone noted Steven Tyler would have been impressed. We have seen the same tragedy repeated time and time again on these shows.
He did a good job but it was too copy cat of the original and he couldn’t do nearly as well as Aerosmith singing the original. So that was the problem. If you are going to copy cat you better do at least as well, or just don’t. It’s like Kristy Lee Cook doing forever. Was that a trainwreck? No, but she couldn’t copy cat Mariah Carey. That was the problem.

I met him this past summer and he is seriously one of the nicest people ever! & a Cubs fan, whoooo!! Well he performed this on the Idols! Tour and it was seriously one of the most incredible performances of that night. Amazing!
Never knew until the year he was on Idol that he was my aunties husbands nephew. His sisters son in other words. Even had him as a friend on Facebook. Was so shocked when he passed. GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN.

Besides being a super handsome man, he was very talented and I voted for him every week he was on American Idol and was sad when he just made it to 8th place. He should have been in the top 3. But I was happy that David Cook won American Idol that year.

Actually I agree that this wasn't a great song choice for him, but on that show you had to take big swings to try and win, and there aren't many bigger swingers than this song, so good on him for going for it.
Probably too much listening to 'music meant for American Idol' has ruined Randy and Simon's tastes permanently. Remember Adam Lambert was good enough for Queen but not for Simon. Oh, but of course, he think his opinion is a 'pretty good one'.

This was such a great performance, and I really think he should've been in the top three ... Johns was sadly underrated, and this definitely wasn't something worthy of being proceeded by an elimination... Hopefully we'll see him again sometime soon :)
When I was growing up I used to watch idol with my mom and wanted to be just like him😂. I grew out my hair had my mom buy the same vest and performed “dream on” by Aerosmith and I fuckin won, only because I was 7 lmaoo but it was cool and I’ll never forget it.
This is the only time someone sang an Aerosmith song and did it justice. Give it up for Michael Johns on this one. He nailed it, and that's quite an accomplishment since Steven Tyler has the best voice in rock history.
