    Honestly, Nintendo has always listened to the fans when it comes to Zelda.
    Zelda II wasn’t praised like Zelda I, so Zelda III (or Link to the Past) is basically a return to form.
    Since people wanted Ocarina of Time 2 (and the backlash against WW’s style), they made Twilight Princess (and with a more realistic style).
    EVERYONE complained about the linearity of Skyward Sword, so they made Breath of the Wild an open-world sand box.

    • @ShadowVincent3
      @ShadowVincent3 4 года назад +118

      Exactly. Nintendo listen to fans more than they are given credit for. I feel fans tend to overlook that and all it does is just make the fanbase look entitled. Besides, not every fan idea will work as well as they think, or are even good.

    Its so hard to pick a favorite Zelda game with the radical evolution the series has gone through over the years, each generation is practically a different genre. When I want to sit down and experience an *_Epic_* I load up Twilight Princess. When I don't have much time to play, I like to pick up majoras mask anywhere, see what I can do in a day or two in my bombers notebook. And now with Breath of The wild I can just roam and explore freely, climbing the monster food-chain until I hit the peak with powerful weapons and armor... And stare at Kass too.

It's so satisfying to pull the controller down and shoot up in the air, plus the epic music and beautiful art design of the sky itself.

    • @trashtrash2169
      @trashtrash2169 8 месяцев назад +1

      Skyward Sword, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess are all equally good, but very different games. They all have their own incarnation of Link that is unique to them. Ocarina of Time is generic at this point and doesn't get to be at the top of the list just because it was the best when it came out. It's a good game, but I think the later games try more interesting things and are more fun to play. I do like the sort of classic fantasy feel, though. It feels kinda like a simplified Ghibli world, though maybe not. Majora's Mask is a weird one and it's really hard to say how I feel about it. I can't really vibe with how weird it is to manage all the tasks and everything. Really interesting concept with a high quality execution, but I fon't have then mental leeway to play it properly right now.

    @dsilva369 4 года назад +66

    I think Majora's Mask isn't about growing up. Link is already an adult for all intents and purposes at the end of Ocarina of Time. His experiences made him into one, regardless whether he has now the body of a child again (which is quite ironic; it's the opposite of his situation at the end of the first part of Ocarina)
    Majora's central theme is grief, loss, and how to cope with it. Termina literally comes from terminal, the end, the final.
    The different stages of grief are all on display one way or another. The skull kid kickstarts the plot partially because he is angry at the giants because they won't spend time with him anymore. The townsfolk are initially deeply in denial over their impending moon doom.
    You impersonate the dead friends of other characters, by playing songs and helping them let go of their pain, their deaths, and move on. The Deku King is angry because his daughter was stolen, and is taking it out on innocent people. The gorons mourn their fallen leader Darani, and he in turn tries to bargain for the player character to bring him back to life. Lulu shows depression after losing her eggs. Anju lost her lover, and vice versa.
    Acceptance comes in many forms. Some people have argued that Ikana Valley, its theme of death, and Link's confrontation with his own mortality is a form of acceptance, as well as Link's cleansing of the place. The townsfolk accept their fate in the final day (even as it is averted by you). The skull kid realizes his mistakes and understands that partings are a part of life. And finally, this is just a theory, but it is speculated that Link's reason for being in the lost woods to begin with was to find his lost friend, Navi. If that's the case, perhaps his adventure in Termina allowed him to get some closure.

In fact, I’m kind of the reverse to Schafrilla, as the reason I love Twilight Princess so much (and Skyward Sword just behind it) is because I really care for those games and the characters in them feel like real people to me. OoT just hasn’t lit that spark in me, and I keep getting frustrated with Majora’s Mask because I keep getting stuck behind some convoluted puzzle... even more so than usual in a Zelda game. @@jaievans6655 Idk I always thought Twilight Princess was good as a whole, but almost every aspect of the game in terms of overworld, story, gameplay, and design has many small issues scattered throughout that at times completely halt qualities going for it that are almost amazing. It had the potential to be a phenomenal Zelda game, but for me, it feels like for every two steps forward Twilight Princess takes, somewhere down the road in the near future, it takes a step back along with them. Overall, a good and solid Zelda game that I really enjoy as a whole. But personally, just compared to its competition, it's my least-favorite of the 3D titles. And Tri Force Heroes I actually find to be quite underrated. For me, it's by a considerable amount, the best of the multiplayer Zelda games in terms of story and gameplay. Nothing outstanding, and not much more than clearly a side story as an appetizer of sorts before Breath of the Wild. But if you look at it for what it is and does, I had a lot of fun playing it. Both by myself (which actually surprised me), and even more so with friends. Does kinda have a filler feeling to it in regards to what it does for the franchise, but when judging the game on its own merits, Tri Force Heroes still has a lot going for it and is a ton of fun play. It's not a big separation for me in the ranking tho. Twilight Princess is like a B for me while Tri Force Heroes is just a B+.

    • @nelsdanburg5407
      @nelsdanburg5407 3 года назад +1

      @@sanuria1 Sorry, this list is outdated lol I just updated it though. And I actually find that I surprisingly rank Tri-force Heroes higher than most do. I do think some flaws brought up our valid, but I also think that if you take the game for what it is inside its limitations, it's a really enjoyable time killer with some clever puzzles that better utilize the multiplayer aspect than Four Swords did imo. And tbh I never understood why most people just automatically group the DS games together. I feel like most people who did that only do it because they didn't play enough of one or both of them to realize it's not the same game and/or didn't try to adapt to the different control scheme. I actually think it works really well for the most part. And tbh I was shocked to discover over the years how vastly different in quality they are. They have similar world design structures and transportation systems yes. But Spirit Tracks greatly fixed upon a lot of the shortcomings from Phatom Hourglass. Despite literally running on train tracks they somehow laid out the world in a way that felt less linear than PH which had an open sea, more complicated puzzles, even more polished control scheme, more compelling story with more fleshed out characters, increase in difficulty, more challenging dungeons, and an infinitely superior soundtrack that's super underrated. Phantom Hourglass does all of this so much worse and honestly I do not think it gets enough crap. I used to like it fine as a kid, but even then always was on the lower end for me compared to other Zelda games. And tbh each time I've revisited it as I got older it just gets worse and worse. If it wasn't a Zelda game, it would just be a forgettable, mediocre, barely passable adventure game that could kill a few hours for you serviceably. But the Zelda standard is far above that and as a Zelda game, it fails in most of the key areas that makes for an exceptional, even just solid, game in the series. No doubt in my mind that it's the absolute low point of the main series.

      Off the top of my head, they severely changed the timing of the deku’s floating (and completely removed spin dashing onto water), causing water skipping to be incredibly slow and hard. Zora swimming is also slower. The first dungeon boss was made incredibly dumb and the formula you’re forced to fight him with is using the tediously slow deku floating. Ice arrows can now only be used on glowing spots and in the fish boss’s room. The fight with Twinmold using the giant’s mask is changed horribly to the point where it’s incredibly hard to beat him due to how drastically the physics of the mask form was changed (including being limited to a punching/grabbing attack instead of being allowed to use your sword). The graphics are slightly less dark and toned. The camera is weird unless you have a New 3DS with the little c-stick.
      I’m sure there’s more I’m missing, but that’s the gist I’ve gotten from videos.

      @@gurki2500 not an uncommon take, i've heard that opinion voiced by a lot of people. The dungeons are a bit boring, especially the four main ones, the shrines i happen to like because of their quickness. you never approach a shrine and say "ill save and quit, come back on the next session cuz this will take too long". I also happen to love the soundtrack. the ambient world songs are great at upholding the vibe that you're in a dead world, and the only life are the creatures you see and the monsters that stalk around. The town songs are brilliant in their reuse of the series previous soundtracks, obviously you got Dragon Roost Island being repurposed into Rito Village, you got Zora's Domain reused for Zora's Domain, and Lon Lon Ranch theme (Epona's theme) was tooled into the stable theme. i do think that the Gerudo and Goron music is lacking however. Plus you got Kass who has some great original tunes, The Sacred Forest has two great themes, one for exploration, and the other for the Korok Woods, and on top of that, i think the generic sounds used for collecting items and the repurposed chest themes are all nice too. Music is the most subjective thing about that game however. I also think the story is one of the best in the series, albeit entirely player driven. obviously you dont have to kind all of the memories and those aren't the entire story, but i think the nuanced depiction of Zelda herself as an overpressured heroine is awesome and the other Champions, while not deep characters, round out the cast nicely, because of the shared history between them and Link. Does it surpass Majora's Mask, the best written Zelda game? no, but it does enough elsewhere to still be a more playable game. Its very subjective but if there is a Zelda game im going to play in 2021 and beyond its BotW, not TP, not OoT, not MM, maybe WW but that one is my personal favorite.

      OoT's twist gives me the very idea of what I believe a modern Zelda game is, and even Link to the Past is. What a Zelda story does is, it takes the very same artstyle that is used to provide a lighthearted, simple atmosphere in the beginning, and uses the story to give the style a much more sinister turn. OoT never changes its artstyle, instead allowing it to show both moods; Twilight Princess' artstyle can be both dark and moody and peaceful and relaxed; Breath of the Wild uses the same painting-style cel shading for both light and dark elements; and, notably, a Link to the Past and Between Worlds both use their bright, colorful ambiance for both a cheerful mood with a happy, populated world, and for a much more grim setting in the Dark World and Lorule.

      Can't blame ya. I never understood why Ocarina of Time is considered better than Wind Waker or Twilight Princess. It didn't age well at all, including the fact that it was the first 3D zelda game. Among the 3D games, OoT would definitely the most forgettable one for me if it wasn't for it being the first Zelda game I played.

      @@sinisterstork9055 I find OOT's dungeons, side quest and overall environments to be much more interesting than TW's ones.
      Currently I like OOT way more than TP, but it took me a long time to appreciate it that much. I understand its status as a classic masterpiece, but its fans often fail to mention that is also has a barrage of small issues and that it had aged very poorly.
      TP is much more coherent as a game, at the cost of being a bit more stream-lined (also apparently I'm the only one who think that way but to me TP has the worst pacing of any Zelda game, and pacing is already my number 1 issue with most zelda titles).
      All of this to say that imo OOT brings more to enjoy overall than TP, but it's also a much more unequal experience, so it's completly understandable to prefer a game like TP.
      Haven't played WW yet but I really want to.

    1. Majoras Mask-Nothing more to say about this masterpiece.
    2. Wind Waker-This is more a very personal oppinion.. I just love to organise things. And in Wind Waker, there is so much to remeber, so much to find, so much to do, I love the fotoquest, the constant progress feeling when collecting tresaure maps, I love the minigames, I love Tetra, I really enjoy every single dungeon, its just such a fun journey.
    3. Skyward Sword-I know, I know..But when I played this game, I just felt a single feeling: satisfaction. Everything in this game satisfies me. I love the music, the dungeons, I absolutly praise the controls, I love the creativity. Just.. the imprisioned. Fuck him. Fuck him so much
    4. Twilight Princess-What should I say about this game..It´s okay. I love the dungeons, I love Midna, I love most of the Items, but..I can´t remeber a single good sidequest, the overworld isn´t appealing to me at all, and the beginning is just.. urgh.
    5. Ocarina of Time-In my opinion.. One of the most overrated Games of all time... It´s just like a pizza with only cheese. It´s tasty, but it would taste so much better with something else. Great Potential for more, but on its own..It´s just not enough compaired to the rest. When I played it I was so fucking disappionted, questioning myself "Thats it? This is called the best Zelda by so many?"

    Totally respectable list and well-elucidated. I only disagree with #1, but you're clear about your own subjectivity and that's cool. I definitely think Majora goes above Skyward and Wind Waker anyway. I have a subjective preference for Twilight, it being my personal fave, but I can't deny that Ocarina is the most well-made of the lot, deserving of the hype.

    The character and emotion put into the world of Majoras Mask is unmatched in any game I've seen since, I really do find it hard to put into words how well the story and atmospheric elements of this game work together. The groundhog day esque 3-day cycle, combined with terrible events and circumstances allow the writers to just plain bring the characters to life in a way that any media can rarely do. Something about that 3 day cycle is deeply oppressive, it snuffs out the hope of a future and a course towards progress and fixing the world. All you have is every characters possible paths through that short period in exquisite detail- their last three days on earth, and most of them know it before the end. This is betrayed by some harrowing lines that you can seek out by exploring the nearly to be annihilated world. You can only provide temporary relief, solve some problems then see your work undone when you are forced to revert to the first day. It takes the formula of gradually fixing the world and beating back evil one step at a time (perfected in OOT) and shoots it in the head. You don't fix anything in this game for good, you just use the rewards to increase your own power until you can eventually fight back. The world doesn't get better, it remains unfixed and deeply pained. Even in final victory much of the damage wrought by the Skull Kid is outside of your power to fix. You can't bring back the Deku Butler's dead son as he was killed before the 3 day cycle started, neither can you make Kafei turn back into an adult for his wedding day, all you can do is reunite the pair for a bittersweet wedding ceremony hours before a death they know is coming. The intensely bleak themes of the game and the 'realness' of the characters however makes your interventions just feel so much more meaningful, reuniting the couple, healing Pamela's father, saving the ranch, and eventually, stopping the end of the world.
    It's one of the only games (perhaps THE only) that I would class as a legitimate work of art, due to it's depth, emotional impact and uniqueness.
