5 years later. Love your vids. Someone who isn't afraid to swear at things that don't work they way you want them to. I've learned a bunch about my new (to me) DR.
Just greased the rearshock linkages, watched your video , found that the dog bones were around the wrong way and the bolts were put in the wrong way , all fixed now, glad you had a video up , cheers.🎉
Hey Mark. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing. It's great to see someone else go through all of the trials and tribulations involved in wrenching on your own bike. I think it's also pretty damn cool that you are willing to show the frustrations and mistakes involved in working on a bike. It makes the videos very relatable. I'm always happy for you when you overcome a particular obstacle or problem. One note on the shock install, I noticed you put the washer on the left side between the bolt head and the dogbone, not between the dogbone and bearing. At least I think that's how you did it. Probably isn't a big deal but thought I would point it out. Anyway, thank you again for posting such entertaining and instructional videos. Good on ya! Cheers, Brent
G'day Brent, thanks mate! :-) I wondered if anybody would pick that up about the washer! I noticed it when I was editing the video and went back out and fixed it. I also relised I forgot to tighten the tensioner locking nut :-) thanks for the heads up. Cheers... Mark
Hi, I'm going through my second childhood and have decided to get a stock DR with less than 1000km and more than a couple thousand dollars cheaper than new. I'm 5'4" and I think I can adjust the suspension enough to balance on the ball of one foot. Should make a descent exploring bike I think/hope. I'll keep watching your series since I'm not a mechanic either. Thanks for posting these videos.
Love your videos dude. You're a real down to earth guy like myself that kinda has an idea how to do things but just enough to get me in trouble. You have a new subscriber.
Hey Mark, When I regreased the other day due to you doing it and making me feel guilty, I used an app Called MYDR650 which has heaps of info and schematics of the bike. Great video again!
I watched your swing arm video and used the same premise you demonstrated to change my wheel bearings. I just did the rear and I'm off to do the front. Great work man and keep the videos coming! Thank you!
+Spartan ADV dude! I just ordered the Cogent Mojave Pro-series rear shock!! Should arrive just before Christmas! Soo stoked! Gonna be some awesome riding when you come out here!
Mark, you are a really funny guy. It's hard not to like you as there is no pretension in you. Thank you very much for the informative videos. Because of your hard work, I shall take my horrible suspension and upgrade it myself. From Newport Beach, California, thanks Dude!
Brining it back!! What have you learned? Your knowledge in the video is where I am now. I plan on doing the same but, I have no idea how to dial in a suspension.
Nice video how to-s. You use the same technical language that I use which is a big plus...and look at the time difference 2023 and looking at a new one (usa) tomorrow (had a new 1991 one..geez 32 years ago, there's just nothing around~40hp+/500cc-700 range.
Hi mark that Dr is coming along great & looking great. Hope to see more on its adventures soon.Keep the breeze between the knees. PL Why is your little fury friend hiding under the bench ?
Not sure what kind of velcro you are using for the Sony cam, but try Dual Lock it's like velcro but is much stronger. Glad to see your getting the suspension done. It will be like a whole new and better bike when you are done. And your perceived riding skill will increase greatly with it, now that the bike will handle better and keep those tires doing their job.
Hi mark I was wondering are you ok I haven't seen any videos lately witch I found weird. I hope you are fine take care friend and hope to see more videos soon 😄
Mate, you should have measured the sag then removed the shock set it and re-install. Doesn't take long to remove the shock. Just hand tighten the bolts a few turns. Should even be able to get it in/out with the wheel on. Cheers.
I know , let's let Kin ride it and give his impressions . He hasn't road it and a fresh on and off may give more report for your questions . . . Keep um coming .
Did you try just turning the spring to tighten it when setting the sag? I was hoping you'd think of that since that's how you tightened it in the first place.
I'm really wondering how much more money this stuff is to make a bike that is trail worthy? I'm not trying to be a buthole but does it make sence to do this or just start out with a ktm or a BMW? I'm going to get into the sport, I only really want to ta kin e about 6 months to ride across america and I'm looking for a bike I can buy and go on. So far I've considered Himalayan, the honda and Kawasaki. In 650 .any advice?
The simple answer for you is that you can buy any of these types of bikes without modification and ride it across America! Don't get hung up on people like me doing all these mods and thinking you have to do the same just to be able to ride it! :-)
@@BikerBits it seems that all bike builders are following Harleys lead and putting out bikes that "can be moded" but really need to be to be complete. I road Harleys for 40 years but I just cant buy into their bulshit anymore and last year I bought a Kawasaki it's a ok bike but I've been thinking if I'm gonna do the tat again better do it soon. So I'm looking for that bike. A 70/ 30 dirt ish and the market is flooded with 20 old teck. Which is what I like I dont want abs, lean angle, touch screen, ect. Just something I can count on for 30k thank you for your responce.
Dr650 has been about since mid 90s so there are 1001 aftermarket parts and mods. The beauty is you can make your own bike 😁 It’s lightweight, it’s simple, it’s easy to work on, it goes forever.
Never ever mount axels, bolts and nuts ungreased! They start rusting in a minute! Think about of all your river crossings! The more grease the better ;-)

Well done! Glad to hear it's such an improvement. Can't wait to see how the DR goes with the front done too. See you on the next video...

Mark, that was some nice camera work. Cant wait to see how that gold valve and springs help.

DR stock suspension is bad?.

Woops, forgot to put this one here! Cheers... Mark

Entertaining video…thanks 👍🏻😁
I’m about to do same front and back.

Coat every part with new fork oil upon assembly
Looking good Mark! Keep up the good work... BP
Another great vid! Always the biggest point of concern for me, when new stuff for the bike arrives and I have to figure out how to fit it :P

Great Video Mark!
Good job 😊
Tip....impact driver cuts time with n half. Never go without it
What i don't understand is why linkage exist? Why not attach the absorber directly to swing arm?
good effort mate.
Did you ever install the steering damper?
7:40 Well that was easier than expected! I thought you would have to make some sketchy rig with ratchet straps. Nice job :)
where did you take clutch cover protector.
What bar are you using? thanks
I have a 1994 DR650, and it needs a rear shock, the one that you have here, will that fit a 1994??
Yeah I reckon it should!
@@BikerBits that's great! thank you for the information.
