It's truly beautiful to me that even in such harsh times the ballet teacher provides strength to the youth in the class, it takes a strong set of shoulders to hold that responsibility upon them. Safety always comes first, but she shows true strength in fighting the terror surrounding with the comfort she can provide, similar to a rose growing from its thorny stalk. The comparison of something naturally beautiful like ballet in the midst of literal gunshots ringing through the night is something like poetry. Please more updates, this is incredibly interesting, high hopes for a safe community space to be built. Much luck and love to those in Morro do Adeus favela.
Just goes to show that dance is a freeing and amazing uplifting sport. I’m a dancer myself and this was very touching and relatable although im not in the same situating as them, dance has still helped me through a lot and gave me more confidence about myself.
This is beautiful! I did ballet for 12 yrs when I was young and it did wonders for my self esteem, and gave me something positive to focus on when my home life was not the best. I hope it does the same for these little girls. This teacher is incredible and I hope she's still organizing these classes!! 💕 (Also I love her different fruit earrings)
I love how it is an Afro-Brazilian teacher teaching a majority of black girls. My country doesn't treat Black people well at all and it's beautiful seeing what Tuany is doing despite the dangers it has for all of them. I fear now with that Bolsonaro things in Brasil can't get any better for POC, LGBTQ+ etc. I praying for the safety of the girls.
gifty k it’s really impressive but here in Brazil, not many people think like this teacher, I disgust people like these. There are some egocentric ridiculous people in my class when once I said “let’s save money for the poor families in the city” they said “I don’t care about it, I saved money for the party” I just couldn’t belive!

Praying for these girls. No one should have to live like this. Poor Black people live thru so much trauma, it's a wonder how anybody make it out halfway sane. Their teacher is truly an inspiring and amazing soul.. The Brazilian government must do better .. My hearts hurts watching this.. 😭🙏🏾😢
The problem is that our government doesn't care about who lives in places like this, they ratter develop the main city and let them live there with no support, the only thing that they do is bring more policemans and do military intervention on those places, that almost never helps, only makes it worse
@@Recomeçar-Denovo I'm in college and there's only one black person in class and she is rich. No everyone who is black here in Brazil can go to school or college. Now there's a guy who is mixed and comes from a favela. His mother is sick and he works and study to pay everything. It doesn't matter where you come from or your skin color anybody can kill. Also you don't see that many black people in college because of racism not because they have a pre disposition to anything, a kid that is born in a environment like that hardly will get out of that environment. Is a cycle that should end but the government doesn't give a shit to the poor and minorities.
@@Recomeçar-Denovo what is your point? If the face of the people making black people suffer also happens to be black then it doesn't count? Also you realise that for every act of violence a black person commits in south America, there is at least 10 acts of violence done by white America to prompt it. But please let's blame black people for their own trauma
Lisa Simpson People who haven’t been through this don’t have a right to say that only black people are suffering in Brazil. I’m brazilian and I have never really recognized the difference between black and white. We are all neighbors and we all suffer equally. My grandmother is black and my grandfather is white and my other grandmother is indigenous. I’m from a poor neighborhood where all my neighbors are both black and white, not one race more than the other, and the families are like mine too. Very mix race. And that’s how most of the communities in Brazil are. Most people I know have curly hair. About half the people I know have dark skin. But they are not discriminated for it. The truth is, the people who are unfortunately discriminated for their looks are discriminated by people just like them. After all, we are all mixed, and that includes both the victims and the prosecutors. Nobody is safe where I’m from, whether you have dark skin or light skin. I don’t think that you’ll quite understand it if you haven’t been through it.
A lot of people don't know this situations in Brazil, and every time somebody ask me "when you return in your country?! Why you don't want to?!" every time this question breaks my heart, cause if a person is soo lucky to have a better life in another place, nation or state it's hard they come back. Brazil is a beautiful country, with magnificent people, but like people call Brazil" paradise", Brazil can be "Hell in the world" too. This girl, the ballet teacher, is the one who makes hell looks like better. (sorry for my English) Brazil te amo 🇧🇷❤️

All the girls are absolutely amazing, strong and beautiful. Big respect to their teacher. Gosh,I’m in tears. I wish they’re all ok and already have safe place to dance.
7:47 When the larger girl was talking about how difficult it is to eat less, the teacher said "Olha pra frente, nao tem chocolate no chao", which means "look ahead, there is no chocolate on the floor".
I dance and this is so beautiful. I'm gonna be honest if the opportunity presented itself I'm not sure I could do it. The beginning where they heard the gunshot almost make me cry. That teacher is a strong woman. I want to thank her for spreading the joy of ballet to these beautiful girls. I can only imagine how hard it is.

It’s really sad to hear what the dream of for their (hopefully) new private studio. They dream of things which we take completely for granted in our day to day lives like wooden floors, and non-drippy air conditioners, etc. it’s crazy to think that’s a luxurious life style to those girls, and most of us don’t even acknowledge how fortunate some of us our because we think of these things as average-day objects. I’m praying these girls get their own studio, and don’t constantly have to live in fear of dying innocent ❤️❤️ Edit: Also the message the girl gives at 14:46 is so powerful. She’s so mature and completely true! There’s a reason people clapped for her at The end of her speech. She’s completely right. People just read your description and cross your name out based on your background, color, wealth etc, and can’t see the love and commitment you give for your passion. I really hope these girls can truly make a future in their passion, and get out of that dangerous place
this honestly makes me so grateful for the fact I dont have to walk down the streets in fear of getting shot 💞💞💞 prayers go all to the girls and it's so beautiful to see how determine they are
@@Bucksh0ts well being part of a good environment is a good start for reaching a way to solve this problem and distract those children from that violent future
This is why some kids cant live out their dreams of who they want to be in life, kids walk to school gun shots fired, go to corner store shots fired, play out side shots fired play with with other kids at playgrounds shots fired, take ballet dancing duck quick shots fired...these kids want a better life to get out of these slums ..but they sometimes cant because shots always fired, they think they will be shot by accidents from stray bullets.
I cried and prayed God will protect them and their families. This video is powerful on so many levels. Thank you Vice for documenting this. The teachers are amazing. Sharing their gifts with these girls and instilling in them confidence and determination that will last them much longer, even after the dance is done.
It’s so sad that children have to hear gunshots and it’s even sadder that they have to run and not feel safe. I hope sometime in the future or this year the change will happen.
I'm genuinely speechless by the girl at 14:45. She has a great perspective of life and the group. I'm simply amazed at how impressive were her opinions and dreams. Hell, even the other girls noticed and clapped. She woke.

e nosso péssimo presidente eleito disse já, não importa quantos inocentes morram pra matar os bandidos. é porque não é no bairro dele que estão os "bandidos", porque se fosse não tinha ganhado as eleições.
this made me tear up. I wish them all the luck and all the good things from the bottom of my heart.
Ikr. It's now happening in Brazil almost the same thing that happened in Germain in XX century, people just can't see it. :(
Its sad to know that a huge part of traffic could be defeated if the drugs got decriminalized, but here in brazil the ones who get the most profit of drugs are the politicians, so they arent going to do it

LINDAS. Essas atitudes que nem a da Tuany que renovam minha fé no Brasil
So much beauty and grace in one video! It is an amazing and selfless thing she does for the girls in that area. Many blessings they continue to stay safe and practice what they love!
This has touched my heart so deeply! I can't stop crying! I'm from Brazil and these little girls represent our most valuable treasures: joy and hope! Much love to Tuany for doing something so great and beautiful! ❤️
Beautiful. Thank you Vice and thanks to that Ballet teacher. Peace
As a dancer, these girls have a true passion of ballet, and it makes me cry. I pray that theses girls will be safe at all cost and will someday perform for a big stage.
Oh lol
This brought tears to my eyes. I love the people of Brazil. They are survivors. But when I think about what is running for president there... Damn. He makes Trump look like a saint. I really wish the best for these girls.
ortem000 yeah like the two worst options are running in the second turn and people are saying that the worst thing is the socialism treath Brazil had more than 40 years of extreme right brainwash on tvs radio newspaper but people still think that this is true Brazil is doomed

He won and all the women in the neighborhood celebrate it, I bet the real rapists are the ones who are crying.

Wasn't expecting to shed some tears as a grown man. Vice, beautiful work. Thanks once again.
Dancing away from thin ice.
Just so they can all make it to the other side.
I love them all so much. I want to hug them. So brave.. way braver than me and I'm an adult.
oh my heart, she said " i feel for the innocent people", honey you are one of them. I pray the lord lord watches over you all and you never stop reaching for the stars despite your surroundings!!!!
This is lowkey one of the best documentarie films that I ever watched. I myself am a dancer and its even harder to watch it but also more beautiful, because only we know how deadly it is to not let that burning desire out. It literaly hurts inside. Its like the flame starts to burn trough your whole body.
black girl magic
Força meninas! Que projecto maravilhoso. Ballet foi o primeiro sonho que vocês criaram! Continuem criando sonhos !
The girl at 14:45 is so motivating and has such a great, powerful voice. I’m so amazed!
The best VICE documentary I've watched so far. I prefer this kind of genuine real life story to the hipstery stuff.
Honestly, the teacher looks so kind and amazing.
Nao sao apenas bailarinas, sao guerreiras! Trabalho maravilhoso, desejo todo sucesso do mundo!
È lamentavel ate crianças se envonverem na violencia... mas ver a persistencia do sonho è inspirador.
POR FAVOR CONTINUEM FORTES!

Who would dislike this?! All of them are incredible and strong, the ballet teacher is such a hero ❤️ I believe in them
Praying for these girls.
LoliBear be quite please🙄
This ballet teacher is a saint
A lot of people don't know this situations in Brazil, and every time somebody ask me "when you return in your country?! Why you don't want to?!" every time this question breaks my heart, cause if a person is soo lucky to have a better life in another place, nation or state it's hard they come back.
Brazil is a beautiful country, with magnificent people, but like people call Brazil" paradise", Brazil can be "Hell in the world" too.
This girl, the ballet teacher, is the one who makes hell looks like better.
(sorry for my English)
Brazil te amo 🇧🇷❤️
thank you for educating other people in whats going on with the world around us many times we forget and what this ballet group is doing is amazing and beautiful more places need to do this i wish places like this all the best .
This is truly amazing, this just comes to show not all heroes wear capes. This teacher gave children an opportunity to dance and be graceful even in a very dangerous environment. Please update us on this!
THIS just goes to prove how much we take for granted
They literally all look so good and graceful. That teacher seems like a gem!
This ballet teacher is one of the Amazing women on this earth.
This brought tears to my eyes. So beautiful. The difference this one lady made in these girls lives is amazing. I started crying especially when that girl said it makes her feel important. Dance has given them the confidence to believe they can be more than people saythey can. ❤❤💕💕
I’m from Brazil and it makes me happy to see them doing this. Even the teacher is sacrificing for the kids
She didn't say it to her. She said it to the whole class
@@franciscolourenco3814 I know that! but the timing was weird..
I just realized how blessed I am to be going to a dance studio where I can be safe and not be worried if there is going to be a shooting

This shows you how much they wanna be ballerinas. I respect them, for risking their lives.
Edit: this is actually the most amount of likes I’ve gotten ;-;
I never thought about how nice my dance studio is until this video. These girls' determination to dance inspires me so much. I will pray for them 😣😣🙏

Shit both Fredrick and another commenter are listed in the credits of the video. If that doesn't show you it's legit, nothing will.

Beautiful just beautiful that these girls are independent and they are just so great and talented😍😍❤️❤️
Pouco dinheiro e muito amor
don't romanticize poverty
It made me smile when I the girl said that she felt important at 7:40. You can really tell the impact of this dance program
No one, or not one child should go through this.
This woman is such an inspiration ❤
It’s really sad to hear what the dream of for their (hopefully) new private studio. They dream of things which we take completely for granted in our day to day lives like wooden floors, and non-drippy air conditioners, etc. it’s crazy to think that’s a luxurious life style to those girls, and most of us don’t even acknowledge how fortunate some of us our because we think of these things as average-day objects.
I’m praying these girls get their own studio, and don’t constantly have to live in fear of dying innocent ❤️❤️
Edit: Also the message the girl gives at 14:46 is so powerful.

This video is heart touching and I’m speechless the teacher is a real hero 🦸🏻♀️ 🙏🏼
This is a truely inspiring story. I am so privileged to live in Australia, free from shootouts and poverty.
This was unexpectedly inspiring. I hope that seeds of hope and beauty like this ballet troupe will have the chance to blossom!
She woke.
That little girl who started ranting about poor black women. Yeah she's going somewhere in life.
I can tell.
I rly wanted to hug the girl who was hugging her dad , frightened, to make her feel comfortable and happy 🥺❤️

I hope god takes care of all of them. The beautiful ballet teacher is a hero in ballet slippers. Much love from Germany 💕
This was so beautiful. They are all so brave.
Not all heroes where capes. Sometimes they where tutus, like this teacher. Lots of love and support to this group. PLEASE give them a building to train in so all they have to worry about is ballet.
Very powerful short docu. Love these stories other than drug gangs vs police. The vast majority of people living in the favela are good people trying to live a dignified life. Ficam com Deus
I hope that someone who is able will watch this and grant them a scholarship to assist their endeavors. I pray that someone will grant Tuany more professional dance learning/teaching opportunities, and just whatever she desires, given her skill to take on this selfless task. I don't have much hear in the States but I would love to donate towards new fabric, shoes or something. Blessings to her, and you for the documentary.
