  • Pistol Daisy has been out for just over a year, so I thought it would be interesting to run the numbers and reveal how much money I've made off my self-published book. I'll give you a bit of backstory regarding my self-publishing business, decisions I've made that might've hindered my book sales, and other elements that impacted my profit. I hope you enjoy, and please let me know if you have any additional questions or suggestions for content.

I really appreciate when self-pub authors talk about the financial aspects. I'm really bad with numbers which makes this all overwhelming so having people talk so openly about it takes away some of that anxiety. You did great with easing yourself back into authortube.

I love it when self published authors are transparent about how much money they made! It really helps to see the self published world for what it really is. Congrats on making your money back and Pistol Daisy's birthday! Can't wait for Whiskey City to come out so I can continue Daisy's story 😊

I think for self-published authors, there’s a bit of freedom in the beginning to not rely on writing as the sole source of income. Because, then we get the chance to explore the stories we want to share, the stories we’re best at sharing, and the stories our readers gravitate more towards. This allows us the opportunity to build a solid business in response to those discoveries. Also...If you’re still looking for channels to follow, I’m leaning more into the author content, along with some lifestyle stuff, and would love to have you over on the channel. I make videos mostly about creativity, fulfillment, and sometimes motherhood while dealing with chronic illness. Anyway, glad you’re back and glad you’re keeping some of the lifestyle stuff around, too. It’s nice to have a mix.

Id also be interested in seeing the graphs of numbers by date, like, when the sales are highest, how much you might be selling older books when a new book comes out (I know it's not a series, but still you probably see a bit of that?). Etc! THanks again for sharing!

What I like about your story is being true and content with yourself.
Most people are misleading some of us first time authors , about making 6 figures..
We can write about different things or category that we feel like or if there is a story that we want to tell others about.
Therefore we don't need to be specialized in a certain area.
    Thank you so much

These are interesting videos. Series: I am about to have the first in my series published. I have five books finished, the second and third are fully edited; the fourth almost edited; the fifth is a first draft. All are psychosexual, noir, crime thrillers set in the 90s.
Pistol Daisy has a great cover. I really like your modest, understated approach. I don't expect to make much, either.

One thing that sucks about Amazon 😏 is you have to have bought at least $50 worth of physical product with them before you can post a review and kindle ebooks don’t count. 😢 That was kind of what I realized about doing KDP promotions-usually the people who are downloading your book (if it’s for free) haven’t spent enough to leave reviews either.

I am thankful for videos like these that paint a realistic and honest picture of what it is like to be a self-published author. However, it is incredibly discouraging for me as an aspiring writer. I couldn't live off of writing like this, but I also can't bear the thought of going the traditional route. Because I feel like even though the author usually makes more money this way, it is still such an incredibly unfair amount given the work one puts into making the books. There has to be a better way to self-publish. If not, I'll die a poor author🥲

I would love to know see a similar video for all your books or even your business as an "author" + writing related streams of interest together and how you manage to actually be a full time entrepreneur because for me, I want to make most of my money off of books, but realistically that will take years if not longer, so I'd love to have other ideas about how other writers do it to actually not have a traditional job, but still have enough streams of income to make a good living, if that makes sense. Thanks!

I won't be sticking with 1 particular genre, I love to read many different genres so I will include those in my writing too, I plan to write contemporary romance/supernatural novels, I will also try to write some pure chick flick romance series, like the type Nora Roberts write, but I also like to read fantasy novels, so I am going to be writing a lot of those too, you can say that I will be jumping in-between genres, the good thing of being an indie author is that we have more freedom when it comes to deciding what genres we want to write, unlike traditionally published authors who once they start with one genre's they usually are forced to stick with that particular genre or they can write in the genre they want using another pen name like J.K and Nora Robert did.
