  • Brexit was presented as a populist revolution against the elite. But in the years since the referendum, a group of men deep in the heart of the British establishment have been carrying out a coup of a different kind - using Brexit to try and turn Britain into a low-tax, low regulation, high finance utopia.
This revolution is funded by dark money - cash from unknown sources - which has been flooding into the British political system through mysterious front groups, opaque offshore firms, clandestine digital campaigns and corporate lobbyists in disguise.
Today dark money and shadowy influence operations continue to push an agenda that is anything but popular, and is deeply undemocratic. In this film, we follow the dark money trails to find out: who are the men who bought Brexit, and what is their vision for Britain’s future?
This documentary was first released in 2021.

Because the rich Tories keep telling them that "those people over there are to blame, that's why you are poor", and they fall for it, they always give them a target to blame, it used to be single moms, then work-shy, and always the immigrants.

Propaganda can be both an in your face campaign and an insidious tool, the effects of which slowly seeps deeply into an individual's psyche. Those who control the propaganda of the masses, media moguls, not only control the electorate but also governments. Why would an individual vote away their economic future if they had not been thoroughly brainwashed to react in such a manner.

This is just agitation. The Wilson case in the High Court and the Court of Appeal held there is no evidence “dark money” changed the result of the referendum. There is no evidence that it had a material effect. Just like Courts in the US found there is no evidence Trump won in 2020.

The trouble with "a boost to the economy" is that this does not automatically mean a better life for everybody. If 100% of that boost goes to shareholders and owners and into tax havens, no one but those few individuals benefit from that "boost". So why would a nation have any interest in that kind of boost. Oh, yeah, if the politicians in charge are also shareholders, etc. Then it makes perfect sense. But I'm still baffled why the people who will not only NOT benefit from it but will actually be WORSE off (see the max. time of work per week go away, see paid vaccation being stripped away, see maternity leave being stripped away, see minimum wage being lowered, see your schools fall into disrepair, etc.) cheer loudly and vote for this stuff. I fear the British education isn't all that good if people can be fooled so easily to vote against their interests and made believe that the REAL problem is a handful of people in boats while - e.g. - Dido Harding blows 30+ billion pounds into the unknown.

Brexit was really about bringing the UK a step closer to a free-market economy - one that increases the wealth of millionaires to the detriment of people dependent of state services such as free healthcare and benefits, and who live paycheck to paycheck. They made it about immigration but it was not really necessary for limiting immigration and our current economic model is dependent on immigration for growth - and the tories don't really want to fundamentally change that.

When a lot of british claimed to have been betrayed in 2016 because the campaign lies where so outrageous and after the vote the advisory referendum mutated into "TheWillOfThePeople(TM)", i was convinced that a second referendum would be the way forward.
Then they had to participate in the 2019 election for the european parliament - fully democratic, not fptp, no "local issues" which are so often claimed as an excuse why someone just had to vote a Tory.
Finaly the opportunity to show the world what they really thought about their EU membership.
And oh boy did they show us, with UKIP the largest party and the leave/remain vote split 50/50 only if you considered all of Labour pro-EU (which they where not and arent today either).
So to be clear, the UK is out due to its own free will, confirmed by a referendum, multiple GEs and the 2019 vote for the EP.

Thatcher (and the Tories)was the architect of Brexit, not Farage.
Her ideological aversion to integration and moves to entrench neoliberal policies helped plant the seeds for the Eurosceptic populism that culminated in Brexit decades later.
Brexit has allowed the Tories to double down on Thatcherite policies of deregulation and tax cuts by removing EU standards and worker protections, much like Thatcher's own agenda.
Thatcher's neoliberal economic policies of deregulation, privatization, and anti-union measures laid the groundwork for the anti-EU, pro-sovereignty sentiment that drove Brexit.
Her policies increased inequality and insecurity among working classes who later backed Leave.
Her famous "Bruges Speech" in 1988 railed against a centralized European super-state and promoted British nationalism over continental integration.
Thatcher's battles with Europe over issues like the UK's budget rebate and the Single European Act sowed seeds of Euroscepticism within the Conservative Party that persisted after her downfall.
The rhetoric of "taking back control" from Brussels and regaining sovereignty channelled Thatcher's confrontational stance against European overreach.
Leading Brexiteers like Nigel Lawson explicitly framed leaving the EU as a chance to "finish the Thatcher revolution" of rolling back state intervention and regulation.

Brexit has had one positive consequence. That of acting as deterrence. In view of the mayhem it has caused in the UK, far right parties in the EU cannot sell the idea of exiting the union anymore and have had to drop it from their programs.
I also think the British who voted for Brexit don't realize how much the world has changed since the good old days. For starters, the UK doesn't have an empire, anymore, then everything is globalized, supply and distribution chains, and trade deals are multilateral now. Many working class brits are very insular, and if they travel abroad for holidays, they prefer to remain amongst other brits and will interact minimally with locals (I have seen them in Mayorca, Benidorm or Andorra).

The exploration of how undisclosed funding influenced the Brexit campaign is both timely and crucial for public understanding. Many British and EU nationals have been affected by Brexit, and greater awareness about the role of "dark money" can help foster informed discussions and promote transparency in political processes.
We need to talk about Brexit and this documentary will be a great tool in achieving that. I should definitely be reposted on various platforms and at different intervals in the future to greatly enhance its visibility and impact.

I voted Brexit. Never been so happy. I'm only a payday away from joining the homeless and needing the foodbanks. The amount of empty shops just sitting there is amazing. I can't believe how well we've prospered. The Tories have done such a wonderful job and I'm so proud to be British. Bozza is my hero and let's not forget Nigel Farage, I'm seriously thinking of voting for Reform. Let's face it, everything he has said so far has come true. The NHS is 2nd to none. I loved it in hospital so much, I really didn't want to leave. It was amazing.

The political system needs to change, no politician should be linked to business, that conflict of interest has to go.
Also laws and the legal system needs to change be brought away from financial gain and business and laws made to include better definition and common sense.
The problem is the same politicians that are linked to business make the laws that dont benefit us only there pockets..

If Farage manages to con his supporters in making Populism popular, that in itself doesn't make the two words interchangeable. it doesn't change the fact that populism only provides simplistic solutions to complex problems.

Nigel Farage mentioned getting pride and self respect back. Where are such things in opening our doors to all and watching the prices double on everything apart from our wages. My pension is £400 down from what it should be on a 4 week month, from what it should be to make up for the rise in prices.

You should not blame con men for suceeding (after all that is their skill - Farage & Johnson) rather look at those in power who were conned, principally Cameron, a light-weight schoolboy politician.

Indeed we were betrayed but the people doing the betrayal were also of very limited intelligence! It was not only corruption but also stupidity!

WE have been betrayed, yes, but these people are not stupid or of limited intelligence. These people are the establishment the bankers in "The City of London" and the people who run Whitehall these are the people who run the British Government. The old school tie, Britain is a tax haven for the rich why do you think we have tax havens, Isle of Man, Guernsey, Cayman Islands and the rest and we still have our finger in the pie, taken money from the Commonwealth Countries and when their people want to come here we shut them out then call them illegal immigrants while we are stealing from them.

The British voters are so incredibly gullible!! The worst part is that they have not yet reached the bottom, but worry not, Farage is headed to Downing St. to finish the job. Good luck!
