I know this video is 2 years old, but I just got my 13' X1 35i Same car but in mineral grey nevada black interior, and wow I love it. Ive owned BMW in the past and this one is still more old school traditional BMW so it fits my style. I recently repaired a high pressure P/S line and it went well. I did it with minmal tools and in the driveway without jacking it up, And replaced the charge pipe. I recommend this engine its easy to work on, no relatively new sophisticated technology, parts are usually available. Cheers.
I'm considering this car and curious around pricing as it's a unique car and I can't find much info! Also for someone who is not savvy on repairs would this engine be more difficult/costly maintenance wise than standard X1 engines? Thanks!
@ It’s definitely a unique car, and the pricing can vary depending on mileage, condition, and location since the 35i is kinda rare compared to the 4-cylinder models. I’ve seen them range from around $10k for higher mileage examples to $20k+ for ones in great shape with lower miles. As for maintenance, the N55 (the 6-cylinder in this) is a solid engine but does require some love. Things like gaskets (valve cover, oil filter housing, etc.) and the water pump are common failure points, but once those are sorted, it’s a beast. Parts and labor might run a bit higher compared to the 4-cylinder N20 since the inline-6 is more complex and has tighter engine bay space. If you’re not savvy with repairs, definitely factor in the cost of a good mechanic who knows BMWs. That said, if you’re looking for a fun, reliable compact SUV with some serious power, the 35i is totally worth it. Just make sure to check the maintenance history-if the big stuff’s already been handled, you’re golden!
Clean man, these are definitely rare being the only X1s with the Inline 6 Turbo engines. I wish you would've revved it tho! I want it to hear it so bad with that intake and exhaust mod. Please make another vid of it!
I have a 14 X1 35i as well, but went JB4 with BEF, xHP for the trans, VRSF 5" intercooler, all VRSF hard pipes from the turbo-intercooler and charge pipes, making 19 lbs on stock turbo, VRSF catless downpipe supersprint secondary cat delete pipes, supersprint res delete y pipe and muffler.
Love the car, Ive got a 2014 x28i in LemansBlue . Just had to replace the fuel injectors, had one fail on me. Besides that, still going solid at 120k. Planning on changing out the exhaust system and headlights for sure. That N55 must be fucking sweet tho
curious what you're asking price would be if you sold it in today's market with those specs? I'm considering one and not sure what would be a fair price for all parties.
Nice info! thanks for sharing @Mark! @JonSantiagoRAW is the reason I bought my E84 after watching his videos. This car is so much fun! It's much smaller than any SAV/SUV's out there but, it is mighty capable!!! So much fun!!! I got virtually the identical vehicle as you in this video. Would love to get some more info on the upgrades you did. Mine Just turned 30K miles, I bought it with 22k miles on 5 months ago. Happy New Year
Yeah thanks for sharing I was looking at this I think these are forgotten a bit from like 2010 to 2015 the somewhat rear wheel drive bias and no drive by wires as well and I think this is off the E90 chassis as well which is bizarre so this thing is nice
have an xdrive35i with the n55. 7" intercooler, aluminum charge pipe, down pipe, k&n oiled drop-in filter, running MHD E30 map (30% e85 ethanol). XHP transmission flash stage 2 (it's like the alpina), Bimmercode to adjust little things like the chime and BMW logo, m-sport coils, bilstein b6 shocks/struts, potenza 007 tires. Looks stock but it's quick & handles great. Your stock fuel pump may be fine with the 30% ethanol
Yeah, I have a 2014 sDrive 28i model, and comes stock with Msport packages I'm not sure they called it. Love it and it drives great! So far, everything is stock but I'm researching to upgrade its headlight with the aftermarket LED, and maybe added some spacer on it.
I have a 2014 alpine white xdrive35i with coral red interior.. love the car to death. Not too much done to it yet, just vrsf front mount IC with upper and lower charge pipes. K&N filter, vrsf catless dp, oem 437m M4 wheels (255/35f-295/30r) 12mm spacers all around. Going to have a full lip kit made for it soon. Hit up @KGSPLITTERS on IG if you're interested in having one made for your car!
I have the same car and color as yours, but it’s the 4 cylinder N20 😪 it still sounds nice but I’ve been wondering if it’s just worth putting in the 6 cylinder instead
Ahh, the good ol’ N20. It’s not a bad engine, and yeah, it sounds decent, but let’s be real-it’s no inline-6 symphony. Swapping in the N55 would be a dream, but bro, that’s a serious project. You’re looking at engine, ECU, wiring harness, mounts, drivetrain adjustments… basically setting your wallet on fire. If you’ve got the skills, time, and deep pockets, the N55 swap would turn it into an absolute beast. Smooth powerband, that growl, and way more reliability (once you handle the gaskets, of course). But if you don’t feel like going down that rabbit hole, just tune the N20 instead. It won’t hit the same notes as the 6-cylinder, but a tune, better exhaust, and maybe a downpipe will wake it up a lot. Either way, it’s still a badass little BMW. Enjoy it for what it is, or sell it and just grab the N55 X1-it’s worth it.
Aight, so here’s the deal: the car’s been rock-solid minus the water pump crapping out around 55k miles. But hey, BMW had a service bulletin on it, so they knew it was trash. Other than that, I went ahead and knocked out all the gaskets-oil pan, valve cover-though the oil filter housing gasket’s still holding strong. Had to swap the oil pressure sensor too, but no biggie. Threw in some fresh spark plugs, slapped in a new radiator, and now we’re sittin’ at 133k miles. I legit just drove from Miami to LA and back without a single hiccup. Haven’t even touched the trans fluid or diff fluid, and the car still glides like butter. Was averaging 21mpg at 85mph and around 29mpg at a chill 70mph. Oh, and 0-60? Upper 4s, baby. But here’s where it gets fun: drove through that Texas snowstorm last week. Like, legit 65mph through 4-6 inches of snow for 200 miles straight, and the car felt like it was on rails. Absolute tank. Might have a little boost leak on the intercooler inlet side (pretty sure it’s just the gasket), but whatever, easy fix. Only real issue? Gonna need some new front control arms soon, and the headliner decided to sag thanks to Miami’s humidity doing its thing. Sunroof panel didn’t help either. Other than that, this thing’s still a beast.
I’m looking for mods I have the x28i version and debating if I want to mod it. Looking for suggestions that won’t damage the engine I’m located in Connecticut
i got a 2013 x1 35i, Just put in a BMS charge pipe in and also disconnected the exhaust flap. what JB+ do you run because I had trouble finding a good tune and looked at those but like you said, they aren't for the E84 chassis so i was wondering what you are using. Also i got the staggered tire set up with my car and its been fun to drive. clean car btw!
I recently purchased a 2013, black sapphire metallic X1 XLine 35i, and haven't had a vehicle nearly as fast as this one. You spoke about JB+ increasing the power. How simple is the installation of the device? A friend of mine told me something about that device but no details. I love this ride and you're right, the 35i's are especially rare. Thanks for making this video as there aren't many. Please send some more details, if you don't mind, about the JB+ you spoke of.
i have this car 2014X1 35i, AWD, it's the M sport equipped, fully loaded, msrp almost 50,000 dollars, as of today 2/4/23 just turned 46,000 miles....any advise to clear up plastic headlights. someone told me to rub lemons on them.....Other than that issue i have a cherry.....
take it to any detail place. they should be able to restore headlights. Its a process of sanding it down then applying a ceramic coating on the plastic. Lemons are not going to do anything.
Yea these cars go unloved, I got my 15 x135i a few months ago, added the intake and xhp and MHD stage 1. I had to cut the Maf screws for my bms intake. Awesome car, I thought you had the auto galaxy car, looks very similar.
Yo man! I recently bought a 2014 x1 35i too, and have been all over DIYAutoGalaxy posts. Im in southeast pa and im really interested in going there and getting the jb4 and bhp flash, how much did they charge you for them both? id rather let someone who really knows what their doing to do it instead of me fucking it up lol
Pulled the trigger on the. Best one i could find. Shipping from California to the Midwest. Looks just like yours. Coming from (still have) an e92 335i coupe. Love the semi analog platform and UI. Should be a good DD.
What tint percentage did you go with? Hoping to take my car for tint next week and can’t decide my percentage. Just got a VRSF charge pipe for my 35i x1 planning to get the BMS intake next. How is your BMS for sound, any drone?
I noticed the m badge on the front side fender. Was this a euro delivery car or maybe a Canadian car ? Whats the 0-60 and 1/4 mile potential for these with some light tuning (trans and jb tune) ?
My salesman said this one was a euro delivery car. And I havent done any testing yet with these mods. Quite honestly this car is a BMW 335 hatchback lol. I ended up going JB4 and taking out the JB+
I have an incoming X1 very similar to yours except it's Leman Blue and has the 18" msport rims. Seems to me the 19" fill out the wheel well much better than the 18" even though they should be the same diameter.
@@NYWF2615 I have the 19" rims and I agree with you. Although, I drove the 18" rims too and feel like the ride might a little bit smoother over bumps, but, 19" definitely handles so well
Man how have i not seen this yet!!! Great to see these videos man 😁🙌🏾. Ive been on a long break... but will be back to it super soon!
Bro i miss your videos! Im going to upload a new video hopefully soon. I ended up doing more work to this car

I just got a 2014 xdrive 28 e84 cant wait to have fun with it
That Alpina flash sounds like a no brainer.
Love the car, Ive got a 2014 x28i in LemansBlue . Just had to replace the fuel injectors, had one fail on me. Besides that, still going solid at 120k. Planning on changing out the exhaust system and headlights for sure. That N55 must be fucking sweet tho

Thanks for sharing! I just got same model, just in black. Loving it! Had an E89 5 series that I loved! But damn!! Loving this one almost as much!
can you give a sense of what one should expect to pay for this kind of car? I'm looking at one but can't find any comps. Thanks.
I ended up going with the JB4.... Absolutely amazing. this car is so fast. I cant find any e85 anywhere in my town though.

Nice video. Have a the same car except its the 28i. I lowered mine on H&R and running some spacers.
Can I see this thing, I just got mine and I want to see how it sits on springs with spacers.

could you do an explanation video of how you electronically disconnected the exhaust valve rather than pulling the vacuum hose?
