I’ve just did it. Just flash original firmware onto the ps3, then put in the new drive, (if your on a nor system, re install ps3 os again) and redo mario’s cfw install video. Easy. Worked for me.

I'm having the same issue. I haven't been on in ages so im running 4.70 DEX and I've tried installing an earlier version, tried QA toggle and even tried in recovery mode but nothing works

So I have a CEX jailbroken ps3 and I clicked on a software that said convert cex to dex in *What's new* on ps3 menu downloaded it and now when I turn on my ps3 I get a black screen I cant insert discs and i can enter safe mod but no Matter what I press it goes back to a black screen

@@foolishboyzz0069 DEX means you run a firmware thats more stable with an ethernet cable connection, people that run CEX are more likely to have an WiFi connection. I prefer DEX since most of the menu’s/tools you are using will work way better with it :)
I don’t have the DEX/CEX functions. It saids to install REBUG REX EDITION first to access those functions. I just have a normal CEX system. Could I just use the UPDATE.PUP from the D-REX Link and update to that?
So you probably have 4.86 Rebug Lite. Open the Toolbox and Enable the QA. Then follow this video, as download the Rebug 4.84.2 REX first. (not the D-REX) and install it. Then the video says all.
I have a question. Would you know if it's possible to downgrade from CEX 4.85 to 4.84 in order to convert my CEX to DEX? There is currently no DEX for OFW for them to make a DEX version of Rebug on this current firmware. So, the info is a little outdated.
I figured it out. Since the current firmware is 4.85 COBRA LITE, they don't have a DEX for the new one yet, so as long as you have the QA flag enabled in the REBUG Toolbox, you can install 4.84 REX, which I did. You just install it as a system update. Then I followed the video from then on to get D-REX installed. It was a bit scary since I've never downgraded my system before, but once I found out what to do, it was relatively simple.
So on the Overflow version in the “What’s New” I downloaded “CEX 2 DEX update” and now my ps3 won’t show up oh my tv and the controller also won’t turn on. The ps3 has a green light and doesn’t work. Can I get some help?
This video wouldn't be able to help you as this only covers the Rebug Toolbox conversion method on Rebug firmware. It would be worth asking on a forum such as PSX-Place.

I've found that you can't follow this tutorial if you have a ps3 on 4.85 cex because these downloadable firmware's are lower that 4.85 (with the exception of the lite version) which cannot be installed as a result. The system will say the firmware is corrupt on the xmb or will say you need a firmware 4.85 or higher in restore so this means you have to wait for an updated firmware that is 4.85 or higher to follow this tutorial. Feel free to correct me if i'm wrong but I can't seem to be able to do this with my firmware at 4.85.
Answered in the video already this has to be done a Full Rebug CFW, not LITE. Follow my downgrade tutorial to get onto a full 4.84 Rebug CFW then follow this.

When I install D-Rex I'm given an error message that says "no applicable update data was found". I know for sure that I used the correct file and named it PS3UPDAT. Idk what else I can do

My question is will the conversion effect or wipe any mod menu's i have already installed on my console. Second question is shall i wait for the rebug 4.86 update to be released on cex. Download that first then do the conversion to Dex then download the firmware for 4.86 Dex? Bearing in mind my system says it is 4.86 because i spoofed it via the Sen enabler
Hey can you tell me how to get out of this menu. “Connect the controller using a USB cable, and then press the PS button.” My stuff is locked like this and I put my charger on my controller and pressed the PS button and nothing happened. (No OG controller)
i had the same thing happen with my afterglow controller simply use the cable and plug the controller in to the USB on the left and press the ps button if that doesnt work try pressing the reset button on the back near L2 with a paperclip or pin

I know its kinda a dumb question but i just dont want to brick my console that i got in such good condition (never been opened) for $30, but another question, i put new thermal paste on the CPU and the RSX and it runs great i installed tempmon and used it to change the fan speed and now it flashes yellow sometimes on the light. The yellow light legit scares me cuz i worked on so many screwed up phat ps3s i couldn't recover that had the YLOD

I've got a PS3 slim on an older CFW. When I attempt to update to Rebug (or any other CFW) the system tells me the data is corrupt. When I try to update in recovery mode, it doesn't even see the USB drive (neither port works). I've tried several different flash drives. A few different firmwares. Re-downloaded the files. I'm stumped and annoyed at this point.

when trying this on 4.84.2 rex when i go to update via storage media is says data is corrupted. when i try it via recovery mode it says no applicable data found. ive tried 2 different usb drives and three different downloads from the link in the zip file from rebug.me what can i do to fix this?
I updated the first part from CEX to DEX, but when I try installing D-REX the System Update won't show the option to install from Storage Media any more; it keeps directing me to install OFW. I've tried a couple of different USB drives, and the folder and naming are correct.

I think my ps3 is broken after trying updating to Dex. Whenever I turn it on it just freezes. Sometimes I have to pull the plug, sometimes I can hold the power button and it will turn off that way, but no screen. Ps3 just freezes instantly. How do I fix that?

Make sure you toggle the QA flag BEFORE the first update in the video.

after doing this if it doesnt let you sign in, go to RebugToolbox/Utilities/Change Active PS3ID and change it to Use EID5 : 87 (CEX)

I've found that you can't follow this tutorial if you have a ps3 on 4.85 cex because these downloadable firmware's are lower that 4.85 (with the exception of the lite version) which cannot be installed as a result. Good looking out. Although you will not need a new CID, you can use your existing one but will need a tool such as PSNpatch to get onto PSN.
LUZMODZZ you have to get a new console id by either paying for it or if you have an extra PlayStation RUclips how to use the console id from there

Well, my file always gets corrupted I don't know what too do, I've used hours on this...
Install from recovery mode and format the USB before putting on the updat.pup file in the appropriate folders

You can't do this on LITE, you have to downgrade. I have another video covering that.

Im getting an error "data is corrupted", when downloading d-rex. Can anyone plz help.
when trying this on 4.84.2 rex when i go to update via storage media is says data is corrupted. when i try it via recovery mode it says no applicable data found. ive tried 2 different usb drives and three different downloads from the link in the zip file from rebug.me what can i do to fix this?

I updated the first part from CEX to DEX, but when I try installing D-REX the System Update won't show the option to install from Storage Media any more; it keeps directing me to install OFW. I've tried a couple of different USB drives, and the folder and naming are correct.
You tried turning the internet off and updating through recovery mode?Use to work for me

when i get the link for d-rex and i download the PUP file and i put it into my usbe through "PS3" "UPDATE" and i rename it to obv PS3UPDAT.PUP when i put that into my console its telling me "Data Currupted" can someone tell me how to fix that? i already have CEX and stuff but ive tried twice

I think my ps3 is broken after trying updating to Dex. Whenever I turn it on it just freezes. Sometimes I have to pull the plug, sometimes I can hold the power button and it will turn off that way, but no screen. Ps3 just freezes instantly. How do I fix that?
I think I managed to save my PS3 because I'm quite a smart little buddy. Currently downgrading back to CEX.
