Ooh boy am I excited to see this thing again. As a Barcelona red owner, I did take issue with one of your statements though. Barcelona red was available in 96. But as it was only on spyders and talons, I suppose you're still technically correct.

I was sad when I seen you crankwalk at the track. I've been patiently waiting the revival of this thing. So glad its finally happening!!

Don't do it all at once. If your plans are that big, spread it out over time, but set goals. Remember the parts production. Aftermarket will be there but the OE stuff you'll need... get that first.
@@Jafromobile Lucky most of the engine parts are going to be aftermarket, or easily reproduceable OE stuff like head gaskets and seals. pistons, rods, bearings, entire head, oil pump/gears are all going to be beefcake aftermarket parts, OE crank has seen 1000hp without being the problem part. It's mostly down to just getting the money saved up, and then finding a shop willing to work with me on the machining.
I'm so glad to have the GSX back in my feed. I remember coming across your channel when you first started making videos and I will delight in seeing you get it back on the road ❤
your attempt to get the axle out of the bearing brought back some painful memories of trying to press the remains of the driver's side front wheel bearing on my subaru out of the knuckle, which ended with the knuckle splitting instead. at least being a subaru, that part was easily available and cheap. still wounded my pride, though. oh, and the best part? subaru's prescribed method for getting said bearing out also involved a slide hammer. in my case, all that did was *rip the entire hub and stub shaft out of the bearings, leaving the bearings and their housing behind*.
Exactly! It's a hub puller, not an axle puller. Hopefully I'll be able to figure this one out because I can still replace everything else. I often share my problems rather than solutions to data mine my viewers when I get stuck. I've had a plan but I've also had some other great suggestions.

I've forgotten most of what happened- for any new viewers interested in a refresher, I posted one way back in, "Season Opener & GSX Clean Room Prep" (probably a few mistakes): 2005- 324hp/312tq - 7 bolt JE 9:1 pistons, HKS 264/272 cams, Big16g turbo, 550 injectors, MAFT, 3" Apexi N1 exhaust, Walbro 255lph fuel pump, untuned 2/4/06- 320hp/320ftlb after tuning with dsmlink ?- Big16g turbo died (maybe oil feed line came off or something). New Big16g installed ~5/2008, at 154k I guess something broke (transmission I think) 6/2009 ^began teardown after a year. transmission case is cracked (Sent to TRE). EGT probe is fried. Maybe some excessive crankcase pressure 11/2009- 7 bolt assembly begins- added (magnus intake manifold + heat barrier, tubular exhaust header, fic 8an fuel rail, +2 an breather ports to valve cover, new chrysler coils) 01/2010- dyno, 353awhp/334ftlb. before this engine blew, it was making an ecu estimated 421hp/396ftlb 10/2010 intercooler end tank weld failed, repaired 02/2011 clutch failure (seized onto output shaft, had to remove engine/trans), this is the 4th transmission 09/2011 rod bearing spun a the drag strip. Engine was 48k old, 150 drag passed, 6 dyno sessions, 4 transmissions, 3 clutches, 10 years of use, 29psi. cause: bolt missing from transmission housing; causing clutch to engage crooked, causing imbalance. Also high oil pressure 01/2014 hyundai engine teardown after valve noise. 'excessive oil pressure lead to the breakdown of the #1 bearing.' or basically mixing and matching so many parts resulted in some oiling issue Unfortunately it's hard enough for me to remember my own projects, let alone a playlist of .. 121 videos!! 4 transmissions... not 3 like I said in this VO. You are correct. I need to count the original broken one that I bought it with, too. Not just the ones I bought from TRE. That 4th one had only just been broken in when the rod bearing went, so we all have that one to look forward to.
Damn, now it begins! Can't wait for the progress on the GSX! This new garage is making a huge difference in the upload speed, or am I just getting old and time flies faster...
Oh it's definitely faster production now. Paying rent helps! Thank you for propping me up through probably the hardest time to keep doing this. It has been so far, anyway... I will keep cutting boxes open and showing everyone how much fun we're about to have!
So cool to see how the underneath of a gsx is basically the same as a legnum/galant, I know how hard it is to find all the correct bushings and dust boots etc, very cool to see all the volk parts going into the build, wish I could do the same for my ec5a galant vr4 down here in Australia
97-04 Galant if I'm not mistaken? Many of the parts I'm buying list those years as using the exact same part numbers. All of the upper arms so far. I wouldn't be surprised if everything below it is the same, too? Why re-invent the wheel. A golden era of auto manufacturing, for sure!
I swear I got a flashback of Alien as you walked under the cleaned underside of the car, probably the same era. I love the fact that you are adding new technology to make these cars better than they were before and help preserve them for enthusiasts in the future. A great video, as always, Jafro!
I know what you mean. You used to see these everywhere in the early 2000's. At every stop light in big cities. Mitsubishi had been making stop lights more fun since 1989, and they were extremely popular. Now I go months... and they're always a GS/RS whenever they show up.
Usually the best outcome for things to happen, is when it's supposed to happen. I've discovered 2023 money doesn't go as far as it used to. I wish I had some of that 2012 money stashed away somewhere but it took until now for me to pull this one off. Now's when it's supposed to happen. Hang in there these things work themselves out.
It's really nice doing subframes 2-wide. I get to show the contrast of both generations. The Galant is pretty much a 1g GSX with all wheel steering, and a better turning radius that the AWD steering has absolutely nothing to do with. Glad to blow the dust off this one... I had to call all my regulars back to the party!
I've been so busy that this video made me realise that these are gone.. I remember like few months ago they were there and now they are gone for good, parts stores will laugh at you if you ask them for some calipers.. I hate time.

The week it took me to get back up to the shop again and do this has been excruciating as I recalled every detail, but now I did the job I paid for that was explained to me back then. Our comments here are totally in it, though. Cool with you? Edit: Based on your user name, I'm going to assume the answer will be yes. Like you created it just specifically for this. :D
Oh good grief! :D The next scene... I explain it was really the subframe in it. If I didn't make that clear enough, I'll just say out loud I don't want Paul to get mad. I didn't even get a box with the LCA's originally because I bought them from him in person off a table. I troll for comic relief is all.
When trying to get 2 rusted together parts apart, and one of them have threads; stick the nut back on it partially before attacking it. It’ll stop the end of the shaft from mushrooming out.
The press and the socket did all of that damage. The nut was actually on it when I was beating on it. It does usually save it, but I was only lucky to get the nut back off again before it went on the press.
@@Jafromobile Generally ill leave the nut on until it starts moving. having the nut only partially on may have helped keep the socket from being a projectile too. haha. Either way, keep up the amazing work.
I replaced the power steering rack recently on my GST with Rockauto aftermarket/rebuilt/remanufactured part and i ended up having to re-use one of the old lines from the original rack due to line clearance. The rebuilt piece had longer bends and protruded at least 2-3 inches more causing it to hit the subframe. Luckily the original line was not a problem and at the very least i could take the new O-ring from the new line.
Thank you! Impressing the judges involved hitting all the factory-correct, and the subtle details. The car was theme-built for one specific event in a regional DSM car show. It was those details that put it over the top. Winning King of Bling on factory non-turbo alloys was always controversial and I 3-peted it.
The key words in these videos is that half the parts you replace are 30 + years old just comes to show what our DSMs are capable of when they got original owners who kept it maintained
Ultimately the way a car ever leaves this world is a reflection of its owner. Same thing with pets, tools, kids, houses, you name it. Mitsubishis that gave the platform a bad reputation were not put together any differently than mine originally. Maybe different equipment, but all of my cars' original problems all came from improper maintenance and carelessness. I bought it with a broken 2nd gear caused by an improperly performed clutch job (from a previous owner or dealership) that lost the crank walk bolt and I didn't notice this problem until my 4th transmission showed up because I never had any bolts left over. Most all of the stuff Mitsubishi put together that never got touched was still here working properly after all this time until I tried to remove it, and I had more than doubled its factory power output at the wheels during the time I owned it. Full circle on your point. Yes. But know that if you didn't do all of the work yourself to verify it was done correctly, the service work you paid someone else to do with good intentions can cost you if done improperly. Whether it's the owner who fixes it himself, or the people hired to maintain it, the car is a reflection of the owner's choices over time.

I have a 95 GSX that has been sitting in a garage for 10 years that I have been trying to figure out what to do with it. Did the same loophope in MD. My cars are registered and tagged, but I don't drive them. And when emissions come i just put "not driving it" and send it back....
We don't have that here in VA. We have county inspectors whom have no enforcement agency. They do not randomly trespass on people's property to inspect to cite them. Someone has to call and complain before they show up, and that guy moved away. Everyone in this neighborhood under 60 has at least 1 project car in their front and/or back yard and it's why I moved to a house between an airport and a race track. I always told this individual the Galant license plate was a message to the county inspector, but he seemed to take offense to it. That's how I know. I was here first *with the cars* before he bought and flipped his house, and I am here last. That guy cost me thousands in insurance and registrations while he lived here. If the county had their way and I didn't loophole it, keeping the cars would have cost me $7,500 and could have escalated to tax liens, additional fines or impound. Land of the free.

So excited! You are amazing. I've been following your works for as long as I can remember. I've got a 95 tsi awd I bought in 1999 I still have it. Thanks for your energy and incredible talent.
Meh... I'm alright... I mean...
...okay fine, you have me pegged. ;)
And the wind whispers "electric power steering retrofit"...
There are actually screams emitting from my supply room. Totally left it out of the spoiler video on Patreon, wow.
@@Jafromobile !!!
That’s something I’ve gotta do too!!
LOL the packaging, good one you had me.
So happy to see this!
Weird to think I have been watching this car (and the AWD Mirage/Colt) since before I met my wife 🤣
Over 10 years.... Alot of hair ago!
I think the a lot of hair ago analogy works for the both of us. 😅
@@Jafromobile 🤣 at least your hair has gone back to looking the same as some of the videos I started watching. Hits right in the nostalgia 😁
This video is pure satisfaction. I can't wait to see the GSX and Galant on the road/track. THANK YOU JAFRO for making and sharing the videos!
Best. RUclipsr. Ever. Always. Thank you. Carry on.
I will say, I’ve been a Jeep/ off-road guy most of my life. My day job is diesel technician. I found your channel years ago and just kept watching. I work on cars for friends and my own stuff but I’ve always found your videos interesting and entertaining. So with that being said…..I’m super pumped the gsx is getting work!
Right on! My appreciatory valve is wide open!
Say whattt 10 years in the making I been asking what for 10 years 😂😂 hell yea best car you have gsx dude I used to watch you race this car on the track seems like so many years ago this is the unicorn of jafro
And now we have a much nicer place to do it!
Jafro, just wanted to say this. As a Millennial who has been watching your videos for almost 10 years. The amount of knowledge i've learned from your channel is immense. Let me know if your ever in the New England area I'd love to treat you to a drink or help scope out some rusted piece of junk DSM for a future project. Much love from a kid who thinks of you everytime he uses a dial bore gauge or outside mic.
Ooh boy am I excited to see this thing again. As a Barcelona red owner, I did take issue with one of your statements though. Barcelona red was available in 96. But as it was only on spyders and talons, I suppose you're still technically correct.
:D See? That's why I did it! You saw it from all the way over the internet, and now you understandeth the trick!
I started watching your videos in high school about 15? years ago when I really lusted over a DSM car. This GSX reeled me in, and you hooked me with all your great information in the videos. I was sad when I seen you crankwalk at the track. I've been patiently waiting the revival of this thing. So glad its finally happening!!
Really excited!! GSX is back!
Makes me happy that there are still some wise men around from back in the day who know these cars. Not all heroes wear capes. Some drive/rebuild DSMs. I just scored a super clean 95 Talon TSI AWD and can't wait to get into it. Glad to know there's still real knowledge out there on these.
Glad to see you back? Been missing some Jafro videos in my life!
So glad shes getting the love after this long. I look forward to this project.
Finally the GSX gets the love it deserves!
Finally one of those things that qualify as love are the parts it's always deserved that I couldn't afford! :D
I'm waiting on about 10k just to do a proper engine rebuild in my PT. It is sitting... on storage insurance.... in my garage..... waiting.... for me to save up the funds to do it justice and make real power and repair it correctly.
This video makes me feel better about letting it sit.
It's mostly down to just getting the money saved up, and then finding a shop willing to work with me on the machining.
heck yea!! Exciting to see you working on that thing again. In some shop space too!! Congratz buddy!
You've talked about this car for years, and I've never seen you work on it, and I'm super excited to see you give it the love it deserves.
Jafro, you’re awesome. So glad to see you doing great work as always.
About to pull all the parts out my rotted out northern tsi. This was a helpful video as a refresher, thank you. You mentioned them being good in the snow, mine had a terrible alignment and still would drive like it was summer during a blizzard.
I'm always biased, but a full break down and restore is one of my favorite things to do, so I'm more than down on this project!
I've got a lot of work ahead of me bro. But I broke the seal.
Good to see you working on it. Can't wait to see it finished. I hope the Colt is next.
Me too! Hey look who it is!!! This man can confirm the whole story is true.
@@Jafromobile Definitely! I feel your pain though. Mine been on stands for 3yrs now. Long story. smh. Hopefully be back to running later this year or next summer at the latest.
I've forgotten most of what happened- for any new viewers interested in a refresher, I posted one way back in, "Season Opener & GSX Clean Room Prep" (probably a few mistakes):
2005- 324hp/312tq - 7 bolt JE 9:1 pistons, HKS 264/272 cams, Big16g turbo, 550 injectors, MAFT, 3" Apexi N1 exhaust, Walbro 255lph fuel pump, untuned
2/4/06- 320hp/320ftlb after tuning with dsmlink
?- Big16g turbo died (maybe oil feed line came off or something). New Big16g installed
~5/2008, at 154k I guess something broke (transmission I think)
6/2009 ^began teardown after a year. transmission case is cracked (Sent to TRE). EGT probe is fried. Maybe some excessive crankcase pressure
11/2009- 7 bolt assembly begins- added (magnus intake manifold + heat barrier, tubular exhaust header, fic 8an fuel rail, +2 an breather ports to valve cover, new chrysler coils)
01/2010- dyno, 353awhp/334ftlb. before this engine blew, it was making an ecu estimated 421hp/396ftlb
10/2010 intercooler end tank weld failed, repaired
02/2011 clutch failure (seized onto output shaft, had to remove engine/trans), this is the 4th transmission
09/2011 rod bearing spun a the drag strip. Engine was 48k old, 150 drag passed, 6 dyno sessions, 4 transmissions, 3 clutches, 10 years of use, 29psi. cause: bolt missing from transmission housing; causing clutch to engage crooked, causing imbalance. Also high oil pressure
01/2014 hyundai engine teardown after valve noise. 'excessive oil pressure lead to the breakdown of the #1 bearing.' or basically mixing and matching so many parts resulted in some oiling issue
Unfortunately it's hard enough for me to remember my own projects, let alone a playlist of .. 121 videos!! I miss forums/threads x.x Congratulations on the consistency and success Jafro. ruclips.net/p/PLbGs6OYpwJlbAfhiwcVbafB5SElRAaWZq I don't know how you come up with the time to film after maintaining your fleet, but tyvm for taking everyone along for the ride
4 transmissions... not 3 like I said in this VO. You are correct. I need to count the original broken one that I bought it with, too. Not just the ones I bought from TRE. That 4th one had only just been broken in when the rod bearing went, so we all have that one to look forward to.
glad to see you back ...
I’m glad you got a shop to work with now. Your content is top notch I’m hoping so see a lot more videos
The next one's at least half-way done already. It's definitely working! Paying rent means I have to.
Dude the rear end is tight😂 I'm happy watching you do this and happier to support you - keep on wrenchin'
I swear I got a flashback of Alien as you walked under the cleaned underside of the car, probably the same era. I love the fact that you are adding new technology to make these cars better than they were before and help preserve them for enthusiasts in the future. A great video, as always, Jafro!
Excited to see this coming together!
Love this generation eclipse. NEVER see them around town anymore. Can’t wait to see this thing come together
I know what you mean. You used to see these everywhere in the early 2000's. At every stop light in big cities. Mitsubishi had been making stop lights more fun since 1989, and they were extremely popular. Now I go months... and they're always a GS/RS whenever they show up.
Love seeing you get after it! One day I'll have time, space, and money to work on my cars.
Great videos. I gotta 95 gst im hoping to get back on the road one day
Sweet updates man that's awesome looking forward to seeing you at the shootout Paul is 30 minutes from me i saw his shop and 1g. Great guy.
That 1g is one of the most immaculately clean examples I've ever seen anywhere. Just saying!
@@Jafromobile yes I saw it its really nice. I wanted a ride but didn't have time o picked up his first crossmember prototype its now on my 1g.
Excellent! I'm sure I've got more coming from him along the way.
Good to see you again.
Double wishbone suspension. Not bad!
There are some parts I may have to buy another car to get. It's all bought and sold on Marketplace and I do not the Facebook.
@@Jafromobile I have a 280zx in my garage in dire need of love and I'm so close to be able to start restoring it but I see the day where gas is banned coming very fast. We hold on to these cars but I'm afraid we are soon going to be forced to have them stay on own lawn for ever.
@@UCs6ktlulE5BEeb3vBBOu6DQ Banning gasoline is a fantasy. We will always have it. I know the forces trying to prove that wrong, but it's not hard to open your eyes and observe along with every other inhabitant on the planet that they're failing at absolutely every single thing they ever touch. All they will ever succeed at doing to gasoline is making it really, really expensive. People who buy antique cars are totally unaffected by all of this. It's not politics. It's economics.
I love you, brother. Thanks for all of the videos. I appreciate you and the 2g and all of the videos you have given me.
I can feel the frustration of that axle in my soul.
Hell yeah man, can't wait to see it back like it's glory days
Best commentary on RUclips hands down!
i too have had an energy suspension bushing kit that i have not put on my racecar yet, love the videos, thanks for documenting your knowledge

Nice job, looking forward to see more 🙂
Good work jafro!
you should look into the cart ETCG made to tote and support subframes
I had a95 gsx , totalled it, nice to see what it was made of.
I had an axle get stuck in the drivers rear of an 06 evo 9 I used to have. Ended up just unbolting the wheel bearing and pulling the outer axle cup through the spindle.
Really? Man, if that works on this thing I'm going to look like a heckuva drama queen.

@@hond4srule Bud, I made a whole-exactly-10-minute-long video about your comment to help you re-live that job you did both through my hands, and the screen on your phone. You reminded me I already paid someone else to do this for me 20 years ago when I had no facilities or tools. I browned out on it because my brain apparently rusts about as fast as DSM axles do. :D
@@Jafromobile Yeah man, of course.

“The GSX is back!” Quote of the whole video.
Whoever packaged those control arms is a menace jesus christ. Ive seen create motors packaged with less.
Oh good grief! :D The next scene... I explain it was really the subframe in it. If I didn't make that clear enough, I'll just say out loud I don't want Paul to get mad. I didn't even get a box with the LCA's originally because I bought them from him in person off a table. I troll for comic relief is all.
Nice !! Good to see this.
Watching for the Mitsubishi content, spotting my exact subaru sti (except in silver and not blue) in the back ground outside your shop 😁
good stuff! this GSX build is gonna be cool!
I absolutely love the color, I thought it was black the whole time.
Thank you! Impressing the judges involved hitting all the factory-correct, and the subtle details. The car was theme-built for one specific event in a regional DSM car show. It was those details that put it over the top. Winning King of Bling on factory non-turbo alloys was always controversial and I 3-peted it.
Cant wait to see what the mini Musclecar can do....
Whether it's the owner who fixes it himself, or the people hired to maintain it, the car is a reflection of the owner's choices over time.
been following you for _ yearsssssssss_ and from my channel, you can tell I am not a GSX guy but my god I am glad to spend 40min with you. Plus I know all too well the frustration to get an axle out of a hub... btw still traumatized from the boat incident lol lol ........ dumb question have you gone back on that boat after?
Based on our platforms, back in their original glory days, you probably found GSX's sort of annoying. My best races were against F-bodies, and I've been trying my hardest to shatter that stereotype. If you run into a crowd of DSMers, I promise you're in good company.
@@Jafromobile lol lol yes you guys beat to your own drum .. lol the dsm's would always take us off the line but I would run you guys down like you stole something... all good been in many fast DSM's and they are a blast

I have a 95 GSX that has been sitting in a garage for 10 years that I have been trying to figure out what to do with it. The stock engine crank walked, I put in a 6bolt engine to prevent that from being an issue again, TRE rebuilt the trans like 15 years ago and it got a ton of mods and was a damn quick car for its time. I have thought about working on it again but I just don't have the time these days.
a little chasis protection or another layer of paint after the lil surcase rust is knocked loose would give you allot of piece of mind :)
It's all in the works! I've got a patch to do on each of these chassis before I can paint them, but seeing how they didn't rust any worse while sitting on concrete all these years was heartening because there's still so much original stuff here left here to protect! I've got a good one in the works!

Now you know what they look like next to one another. A match made in heaven, really. VolkMetalcraft makes awesome stuff! Sometimes it's okay to skip dinner and eat dessert first.
Nice 👍 I just picked up a 91 Daytona
Some adjustable camber plates might be in order
Fortunately the LCA's have camber adjustment built in! There's a link to all the parts in the description!
