    I've looked all over the internet for some great how to videos, and out of a hundred, there is only a handful that really show the correct angles, what it looks like before and after, and the different views. Your channel covers all of these and I hope you don't go anywhere any time soon and make more great content. We modelers need experienced guys like you to explain how its done.. Thank you for the maybe not so fun how to videos.. This is a great channel to learn from.

      With nail polish remover and cotton buds/cotton pads while the putty is still "wet",a couple of minutes after you apply it will do.Try it first in a hidden part to check if it harms the plastic of your kit. Do not use straight aceton,only the watered down,colored type from supermarkets.

    Nice vidoe, BUT the gaps that big like on the f-80C is much better fill with piece of plastic sheet, sand into the rigth shape and add little filler/CA glue to fill minor imperfections. It is better base for scribing and you have no risk that vast amount of solvent based putty will shrink after longer period of time as it tends to and wil not show mess on finished model...

  • @ploppysonofploppy6066
    @ploppysonofploppy6066 2 года назад

    Bit late here, but any thoughts on "spue goo"?
    Heat stretch some of the kits sprue, them melt it into the gap with liquid solvent cement. You end up with a very solid structure, as it is all made from the same grade of plastic. Also limits the use of putty to final finishing.

    • @scalemodelcinema9900
      @scalemodelcinema9900  2 года назад

      Hey, that is an option, but I think if you are looking at using plastic as the filler (which is a very good option for large gaps, and I shouldve included that as one of the methods really) I suspect that using the right mm size plasticard might be a better option? Cant say I've tried the strech method for this. My only issue with using plastic as a filler is often there is more mess in terms of keeping the glue in the joint and avoiding getting any on the surface, especially if theres any raised surface detail in the area.
      cheers for the info though, worth investigating further :)

    • @ploppysonofploppy6066
      @ploppysonofploppy6066 2 года назад

      @@scalemodelcinema9900 Oh it's messy as hell, often have to re scribe surface details, but I find a lot of panel lines on modern kits are too wide for my liking anyway. And I'm always concerned that filler will shrink and crack.
      Great video.

    • @scalemodelcinema9900
      @scalemodelcinema9900  2 года назад

      @@ploppysonofploppy6066 Yeah cracking can be an issue with some putties, I find that the recent 'perfect plastic' water based ones are pretty flexible and havnt ever had any cracks with them. The other thing that helps with that is a decent thickness of undercoat (not too much though) as this can bind the putty and plastic at the join. Mr surfacer 1500 black (undercoat) is also resonably flexible and bonds well. The key is to fill the gap completly so that there is no room for the putty to move, especially near the surface of the gap. I hear you re the panel lines, Airfix anyone :P

    as a cheap alternative for filling in those large gaps, would you recommend a drywall filler? it always comes in a large tube generally priced around $5-10 dollars. they dry up in about 20-30 mins depending on how much was used. then you can apply the fuselage gap filler afterwards to fill in the top part and sand it down to make it seamless. a tube of the Tamiya basic putty is like $8 and it's not a very big tube. that way, you're only using a little amount of the Tamiya putty and could end up having a tube enough for maybe like 5-10 models.

    • @justindunlap1235
      @justindunlap1235 Год назад

      I almost exclusively use vinyl spackle for filler in my scratch and kit builds, it works great and can be thinned with water or denatured alcohol. If I have a large gap that I want to also have some structure to it I'll use JB weld plastic putty or Bondo depending on the application. You get the same results with for allot less cost than the model specific fillers.
