  • Hey folks, in this video I’m going to present to you the Quick Rack from Ortlieb. I forgot to mention that this is not sponsored in any way!
    What makes them (there is also the "light"-version) so special is the fact that one is able to mount and remove them in seconds! 15 sec. to mount and 5 sec. to remove. If one doesn't need it one can easily take it off and when one needs it it can carry up to 20kg (44.1 lbs).

    I just mounted the rack. Really easy to do. As to the spray flap; just take a piece of plastic e.g. an pet bottle, cut out and attach with tie wraps.

    I love it. Got one in my local bike shop. Used it for my first 100km Overnighter. You also get a mount for lights with it. I used mine to Mount my Garmin Varia at the end of the rack instead of the seatpost where it normally is mounted.

    Interesting that you suggest it can be used across multiple bikes and so keep the cost down. I thought the exact same thing but when I checked with Ortlieb support, they do not sell the mounting kits separately so you also have to transfer all the mounting studs over which makes it no different to any other rack. I really hope they change this policy and start selling additional mounting kits. Other than that, this rack is awesome, rock solid even with fully loaded panniers.

    • @motourer

      Today I wrote to the customer service, the mounting bolts are sold separately. Not yet via the online shop but the SKU is E242 'mounting kit M5 and M6' and costs 7€ + shipping.

    Does anyone have thoughts or comments on the following: 3rd party or aftermarket racks when used on full suspension bikes. (This is quite common on Fat Tire E-Bikes) but I've seen
    even acoustic bikes have rear suspension's on them and what I've heard and trying to get further feedback on is this: Rear Racks when used in combination with the rear suspension design
    can injury the rider or damage the bike, or both, (at this moment I can't unpack that statement anymore, I'm trying to discern how common this opinion is held )

    Does your bike have 135mm rear hub spacing? Did the rack fit smoothly or did you have to stretch it very slightly to make it fit (maybe less than 10mm) on the mounts/eyelets? This rack reminds of the BTwin lightweight rack btw. :)

    While the SKS Speedrocker and the mudguard "add-on" for the Quick Rack are an option, I'd be interested if the SKS S-Blade mudguard, which is also mounted at the seat post, would fit with the Quick Rack?

    • @jeremyw.465
      @jeremyw.465  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hey, I don‘t think that it is possible to mount the SKS S-blade whilst the Quick Rack is installed, because both are attached to the seat post and that wouldn’t be possible.

    What I don’t get is why the rack bed slopes backwards when the pannier mounting bar is set parallel which I assume is how it should be installed to ensure from an engineering perspective that the pannier fixing points are evenly loaded? Does you rack also slope or is it mounted so the pannier bar slopes?

    • @jeremyw.465
      @jeremyw.465  4 месяца назад +1

      If I understand you correctly you are wondering why the lower struts (Bar) to which one attaches ones panniers is tilted (sloped) when one installed it so the platform is horizontal!? That is the case so your heels don't hit the bags whilst pedaling.

    • @jeremyw.465
      @jeremyw.465  11 месяцев назад

      Hey, although I haven't tried it out it should be possible, at least up to a width of 2,35" with a 29", so Ortlieb states on their website. About moving it back and forth: At the moment I am working on an update video and I will also address that because it isn't as simple and versatile as I said in this video... You will need a similar back end frame geometry because otherwise you will always have to adjust the length of the strut to have the rack mounted level. Also depending on the frame width of your two bikes where the screws would be mounted you might also have to compress or widen the rack which I don't think is too good for the aluminum... Not that that's all, you also need the same seat post circumference, because if they differ you will always have to adjust the quick release attachement. So it might be a bit more difficult than I thought it was to switch it between multiple bikes... I hope I could help!

    I want this but I'm scared to get one. The reason being that if it's thats easy and fast install and take out the rack it'll be just as easy for a thief to grab as well. I just imagine a scenario where I grab my panniers off the rack and into the grocery store and some bastard sees the rack being a quick release and steal it. Then when I come out from the store.
