  • Willow, my 1966 Mk1 Austin Cooper S returns from the shop with a new headliner, new windshield, fresh set of twin SU carburetors installed and tuned and I finally take him for a few rips!
I really thought my first drive video would have been about five months ago, time just really got away from me. Even though it's later than I thought, that doesn't make it any less exciting. He was fully dyno tuned for the carbs and is running beautifully. The noise from the straight cut gears makes me feel like I'm in a proper racecar! It's come a long way and it feels good to be at a stage that I can start to enjoy driving it, not just working on it.
I took it for a few blasts over the last week and just love how it drives, great fun in the twisties, and I'll never get tired of the sound.
Thank you for the support and like and subscribe if you haven't already.
Drop a comment with any questions, or just tell me what you think of Willow.

Lovely car - Cooper S, the real deal classic - well restored versions are worth a fortune here in the UK.

That’s absolutely awesome. Congrats on the works so far, looks amazing. Working my way through your other videos and have used them to help me with my MK1 build so thanks for sharing the trials and tribulations.

No problem at all, I’m enjoying every second of it. Rebuilding cars is such a rewarding thing to do.

My son in law, coincidentally a RUclipsr has a 1960 (january) Mini that started out as an 850 and became a rally car, gaining all the good bits en route. It is still a rally car, albeit lovingly restored, but definitely a cool thing to drive. (I also learned to drive in my sisters 1977 mini 1000 which I had many good moments in after passing my test, some of which didn't involve driving)

Say no more about the many good non driving moments 😉🤣. Id love to check out his channel, can you share it with me? That sounds like a great mini.
Driving these cars is just something else! I see why the production of them ran for soooooo long.

The straight cut gears sounded great, lovely Mini! How much ccm does your engine have?

Thank you, I’ll have to get some ear plugs for longer trips, but love the banshee wail right now. 😂It’s a 1310cc

What cam do you have in your engine. 60hp is quite on the low end even for a basic setup. Or is it power at the wheels?

Hey there, Unknown cam, engine was rebuilt by previous owner. Those dyno numbers are power at the wheels, don’t know power at the crank.

@@CHILLSEEKERSPATRICKDOWD if you ever have the chance I would advice to check what's in there. The low peak hp RPM indicates you could have a stock camshaft, in that case you could benefit from a more modern design. But 60 at the wheels makes more sense. Enjoy your great car!

@@GTE_ChannelI’d love to know what my cam is but I don’t want to start taking it apart again. 😂 than you for the advice. I’ll let you know if I find out.

@@CHILLSEEKERSPATRICKDOWD yeah that's a job for when you really have to. But by the sound of it your engine runs really sweet, do just enjoy it as is.
Out of curiosity, what is the max this engine revs?

@@GTE_Channel I was told 7k by the guy who tuned it for me.
