- Top 5 Best BUG-OUT GUNS For Survival 2023
Forget all the Doomsday Prepper fantasy when it comes to bug-out guns. Walking around like you’re in the apocalyptic wasteland, adorned in a leather G-string and carrying a tricked-out AK-47, is as good as taping a “PLEASE LOOT ME” sign on your back. Same goes for a lot of the other “tacti-cool” crap a lot of preppers are packing for an SHTF evacuation scenario.
You you’re looking for something light, versatile, rugged, and concealable even in your bugout bag, that will still help you pack the firepower you need to be protected when you’re en route to your safe-zone… then check out my list of firearms that can actually save your life in those crazy life-or-death situations.

your channel rocks.. keep those damn good videos coming
Drako
Or m1 carbine
@@billyjones9045😮
A Marlin in .357 and a S&W in .357 are a good Bugout combo too.
Couldn’t agree more I love .357 out of a lever action. Amazing round
Or a ruger blackhawk in 357.. if you get the 9mm cylinder with it you have 3 calibers in one gun
I went with the Rossi, but yes. A hot 357 load can get to low rifle velocities through the longer barrel.
A lever .357 is not ‘best’ at anything, but ‘good enough’ at most things you’d use a gun for. (Including staying legal in certain States.)
And in a pinch .38 ammo can be used (or for self defense in the home.)
I like my 9mm folding carbine and a 17 round 9mm pistol and a small 10 round 9mm hideaway so I'm ready
The Beretta CX4 is also the ideal weapon to have in case of a Cylon invasion.
Classic reference!
I own 2 of the 5. The Beretta Px/Cx combo is sweet, and my trusty Keltec origami gun is my go to for backpacking.
I have shot the foldable Kel-Tec and some criticisms I have are: 1) As a bigger guy I had trouble seeing down the sights without having the rifle right up on my cheek. 2) Depending on the ammo used, the slide tends to bite on the casing upon ejection. Fun weapon to shoot regardless, I was shooting the .40 caliber and had a blast!
This stupid , These guns are expensive and you probley wont even shoot them but once
Ruger PCC, break down ability gives it an overall small footprint when carrying disassembled. It also takes glock mags up to and including the 30 round fun stick. Pair it up with a glock and you have interchangeability.
I agree and even have 70 round mag for both. I have a PSA Dagger copy of the Glock.
Another good line-up today! All very good choices, depending on the specific need.
I like the cx4 combo since I already have a px4, so the team would be convenient.
otherwise the foldable AR15 is sweet!
Thanks for your continuous support
I have a cx4 and a m9 combe and out of the carbine 115 grain white box ammo will go through both sides of a Isuzu trooper for sure
I am partial to my ruger pc9 with the backpacker stock and my keltec KSG 12 gauge bull pup..21 rounds of mini shells or 14- 2 3\4 shells and the best is that both are compliant anywhere. And lets not forget the ar7 pack 22lr..with those three your good to go foe anything.
I have a CX4 in 9mm and a 92FS, I also have a CX4 in .40 and a PX4 to match. .40 is great in a carbine.. it gains enough velocity to put it into 10mm energy levels.
Ak for defensive/offensive needs at a distance, bolt action 303 or 308 for heavy game/ sniping and a reliable 12 ga. With various loads for defense / hunting and a reliable semi auto handgun and backup revolver in same caliber as the semi auto. Preferably a.357 or .45. your on point with those self defense weapons you'll build up a supply of spare weapons and ammo from all the 9mm crowd
Yep, the "9mm crowd" will have no chance defending against a dude named joyce
Kel-tech sub 2000 is good. 14 inch 12 gauge is another good one. both priced reasonable. and will fit in a back pack.
The Little Badger now comes in a take down version instead of folder. The new 590S will handle the mini shells without an adapter which almost doubles capacity. Standard 12 gauge ammo is very heavy. 10 rounds per lb compared to 37 for 9mm or 223. 12 gauge is a home defense gun not a bug out gun unless you have a way to carry that heavy ammo. My wife and I have a pair of Ruger 10-22 Chargers. 3.5 lbs including an AR height red dot. We cheek weld them and can shoot them accurately offhand out to 35 yards. They can be rested for longer ranges. A Takedown version is available. A no brace AR pistol will takedown to 2 short sections and is fairly inexpensive. 9mm will be quieter than 223 and the 147 grain 9mm can be suppressed. Mags can match your handgun. Need to see how the brace rule plays out but using the cheek weld technique you do not need a brace. That folding AR is an SBR under current rules. Hopefully that goes away.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us! I really appreciate people that are not just watching a video but also share their experiences with the rest of us.
A 12 gauge wouldn't be my first pick for a bugout gun, but not my last either. Hopefully you won't need ANY ammo while moving to your next digs (predetermined) so carrying a 12 with 25 rounds should suffice. After you win that first shootout, you'll have at least one other option as well.🤞🏻
As for the FoldAR, it's still a pistol. You just have to take the brace off. It's really that simple. If you're in such a bad way that you've chosen to bugout (hopefully a last resort) I doubt the BATF-E would care. If they do, well, that's why I wear gloves when I load magazines. Cheers.
Love my 92x RDO Compact and CX4 Storm combo..
I got a sks with synthetic hunting style stock and detachable mags, with a cz75b 9mm for my shtf set up and feel like it's fine since ar15s don't like to run in the mountains where I live during winter
Damn I wish the Little Badger folded better. The wasted potential actually offends me! The Kel-Tec on the other hand is like a work of art.
Loved this. Thanks Coch and Dorr for another awesome peak and info
Coch and Door?
@@survivalgearofficial sorry video switched as I was typing comment. Apologies
I have CX4 and 96 and PX4 doing the same thing but in .40 ,which is better than 9mm in the carbine and shared ammo.
12gage is literally the best home protection tool ever! Wide ammo variety and very powerful!
A reliable pump action 12 gauge shotgun is indeed one of the best home defense weapons.
@@survivalgearofficial fostech 12 all day long brother.. the pump is way to slow
Yeah you got that right .. when it comes to close quarters or indoors the twelve-gauge sawed-off pistol grip is best
What about a mag fed VR80 with a telescope buttstock and fore grip
But 12 gauge ammunition is too heavy to carry without vehicles. Put 100 rounds of buckshot shells in your pack and walk around for a while. NOW...., that's just your ammo. You still need food, water, sleep system and shelter, plus anything else you want to carry.
I would sooner trust my life in the wild on a Ruger 10-22 with a couple of BX25 than the Kel Tec jam o matic.
Well I agree that maybe a lot of preppers go for a lot of different guns usually the AR that they go for personally I'm among the group The hate the armor light brand an AK-47 is actually a very reliable but I wouldn't need more than a 22 or a shotgun which has cheap ammunition compared to the rest and could be found anywhere
Really like the Beretta CX4.
I have a cx4 it takes 92 mags and is a great combination and takes 30 round mags great weapon
Unfortunately the CX4 is hard to find nowadays…
I have the Kel-Tec Sub 2k in .40SW... with all the MCarbo mods done to it. The recoil pad on that crap triangular butt stock, absorbs the recoil from a .40! Also, the MCarbo optic mount is much better than the MI mount!
Red Lion makes an option that helps with optics, too. Might be worth checking out if you've not shifted your interest to something else.
Great video
Another fine video about the weapons sir. Take care and be safe. See you on your next video.
Thanks James. Glad you enjoy my content!!!
Hi hi Bob
Ruger 10 22 my first pick
Easy to mantein, corrosion resistant and with high quality metal used on the chamber and barrel wich allow it withstand the possible overpressures or non-standard rounds would be post apocalypse side gun minimum requirement
Study the Yugoslav Wars if you want a real life idea of how a civil collapse would look like. I've read that a refugee from that war said a pistol is better than a long gun because it allowed him to look like a non combatant and didn't draw attention to himself.
Double FoldAR is an amazing compact gun that you can place inside of your bug out bag
The best thing is that the FoldAR is a fully functional rifle.
If I have to bug out by myself I am taking; Colt-SP1 with a CMMG-.22LR conversion kit; SIG P226 with factory .357 Sig and 40S&W barrels, aftermarket Fire Dragon 9MM barrel and SIG .22LR conversion kit; Ruger Blackhawk New Model Combo with 9MM and .357 Mag cylinders. If my family bugs out as a group everything changes.
if you're a real prepper you know that firearms are only good in the short run because eventually you're gonna run out of bullets
Long with that Sub2000, there’s also the Ruger PC9/ backpacker. Very storable, breaks down & can take glock mags.
I still feel like glock is one of the best guns for SHTF because they are so versatile able to switch calibers with a slide and a barrel magazine compatibility and availability of bullet types
I definitely agree with the Beretta CX4 carbine and Beretta 92FS combo. And I also agree with the Mossberg shotgun. But I don't trust folders, especially the Keltec. I wouldn't trust my life to ANYTHING made by them.
The Sub2000 is really appreciated by owners. Otherwise it’s true that some Keltec firearms are known for reliability issues
I've been trying to find the BERETTA CX4 STORM IN 40 CAL FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW not giving up
I have a Sub2k 9mm that runs flawlessly. I had a 40 and a 9 that took Beretta mags and they both ran flawlessly. 4.25 lbs means more ammo you can carry.
@@kfsrmn.... Sure you do.
@@ed9603.... 9mm is better than 40. Anybody who trains will tell you that. And you would find it very difficult to find a credible tactical firearms instructor that says you should use 40 instead of 9mm.
"That tactical crap other preppers have is crap. Buy you a Keltec"
Said... This guy.
I have approached this different than some. I decided on what bug out guns to use based on my position in both a group setting or alone. Both load outs are the same.
I’m not a great shot so trying to defend against a long distance shooter means a bad day for me. So I carry a .45 acp pin my hip. A 9mm on my leg for back up. I carry a .45 acp carbine across my chest and a 12 gauge shotgun in holster on my backpack 🎒 in ready grab/use position.
Yes the clips are not compatible and 3 different calibers are hell on weight and resupply. However, it gives me a distinct advantage from close range where I’m a lot better shot.
If the rest of my team of better shooters is on scene, I’ve will sport ar15’s, 12 gauge pump shotguns, 308 with good scope among other weapons.
Simply I’m the medic. Doc grunt if you would. I also counter my short range with body armor. If we bug in, the fire power just gets better.
Have you tried carrying that loadout along with water, food, survival gear, comm gear, shelter, medical gear and a change of socks?
None of these fuckers are "good shots" or even know what that means, so I wouldn't worry about that part. You may want to consider streamlining your gear and actually going for a hike with all of it once you get it pared down though. Bugging out on foot is a real game changer. If we ever get to that point, at least half the population will most likely be dead and we'll probably be fighting off CCP soldiers.
Rather have a 10mm, lol ill take the hi point 10mm carbine and the new 10mm hand gun
In this list, I'll choose the FoldAR and also that BerettaCX4 Storm and 92FS combination.
Great choices! Unfortunately the Beretta CX4 is not readily available.
Small light weight ammo 22lr 22wmr 9mm means you and carry more and takes up less space. I personally like big revolvers 44mag and up, but not for a bugging out.
AR-15 with a .22 conversion kit sounds ideal to me. A .22 Mag lever action is also a contender.
I don't see how the CZ Scorpion didn't make this list
Why doesn't anyone mention the TNW Aero Survival Rifle. PCC in 6 different calibers. Barrel unscrews and the stock collapses down to 16 inches. Works well in a bug out bag.
Well my three PCC are i go with the Beretta 96A1 in 40.S&W and Beretta Storm CX4 in 40.S&W and a Ruger Bisley Blackhawk 45'ACP /45.LC and a Winchester 1894 45.LC and a Charter Arms Pathfinder 22LR and a Rossi old model 62 will take down slam fire shoot's 22 CB-S-L-LR
Congratulations from Brasil
we don't have any of these.. but we are very well equipped and armed WSHTF we will fully load all the AM general 35s with trailers and head to base.
Do you have ammo stockpiled?
@@survivalgearofficial let's just say.. if you seen what we have your eyes would be bugged out. we never show what we have . that's all I will say brother.
@@survivalgearofficial we have a huge fallout shelter and 14 depots around the. Nation ALL STOCKED
@@survivalgearofficial been prepping since I was 9 yrs old my godfather and his Nam buddies was waking me up back in the day.. then they started showing me how to wake up and prep
I wouldn't recommend the gen 1 Sub-2000. I have one and it's no where near as reliable as the gen 2. Also I've had a spent casing actually damage it when it didn't fully eject.
Don't forget the Henry .22 AR Survival Rifle
CAVEATS:
FoldAR is a SBR.
SUB 2000 cannot handle +P ammo.
12-gauge ammo is bulky for a bug out.
What is the optimal barrel length for a 9mm ?
I think it hits at max velocity at 7.5”-14”
Shooting 9mm out of a 16” barrel, Will basically give you same destruction and fps energy, shot out a 357 mag , full barrel revolver.
so many guns, not enough money.
It’s true. There plentiful of amazing guns but our budget is limited. So we have to take the best decisions when we buy a new firearm
The PX4 jam-o-matic as a bug out gun? And I have had Kel-Tec charging handles fall off during range sessions.
Cx4? I have a 45 acp😀💪🥰
9mm glock w a microconversion kit. When legal again.
You slap the glock into the frame and you have a much more stable platform that holds extra mags yet is lightweight
Great video but you need to list prices on the guns..
Thanks! In some of my latest videos I started to include the MSRP of the guns.
Awesome list of bug out guns
Which bug out gun is your favorite?
I think the Keltec Sub2000 is the best survival rifle. It’s chambered in 9mm and you can share your Glock magazines.
So, you''re bugging out are you, well then please tell me, bugging out to where ??
Uzi = 1 gun 6 calibers. 12 ga Mossberg 590-A1 = 5 caliber conversion shells. AR-15 with .22 conversion.
CX-4 is good but not fool proof, keep it clean and use quality ammo (factory or handloaded) or be willing to accept reduced reliability. You have been put on notice, no whitebox ammo when SHTF.
To bad the cx4 isn't offered in 40. I would be tempted to get one to pair with my 96.
My brother has one.
I have a single shot shot gun in my bag with 9 mm 22 lr cylinders I can Putin it to shoot both caliber s along with 12 gauge
12 semi automatic ☝️ shotgun gets respect…
Everybody you need a Glock 9mm
Me: ummmm s&w .44 magnum
Everybody you need a PPC
Me: breakdown 92 winchester in .44 magnum
Everybody: you need a AR15
ME: .300RUM Remington long range.
Caltex????
Ruger PC Carbine 9mm
👍😎🍺🍩💥
Would you like to see more bug out gun videos?
How come Kel-Tec is spelled Caltex in the thumbnail ?? AI misreading a voice ?
These guns are fine if you can actually afford them
Preparedness.
You mean the best bug out guns for prepping?
You do not need that to protect yourself
I have a question. When you get killed with one of these weapons? Can I give them to my daughter?
Good one sir.
For survival you need a hunting rifle, not assault rifle.
S&W new side fold carbine is definitely better made than Kel-tec .
Some guy 200 yards away on a hill with a surplus Rifle in an actual Rifle Caliber will pick off all the 9mm and 12 Gauge Shotgun Folks. Put holes right through the Drywall of the house your hiding in.
I don’t think that’s the point. Most of these are small, light guns designed for hunting in a survival situation. They’re not meant to be COD warzone loadouts 😂
These 9mmm carbines can also shoot up to 200 yards or even further and still be pretty accurate. But you're right that those high-power rifles will go through have your material without any obstruction plus we'll Reach Out further a lot easier, but their explanation is for a quick bug out to get to your safe Zone where you will have higher caliber and maybe even fortification for typical calibers.
Look up Mel Tappen
He'll pick off the tacti-fools with their AR's and AK's too...
You're
Just reading the click bait I can answer your question. Five best??? If you have five ! Those.
Berreta 92 trigger pull is horrible
CX-4 is just a handgun with a long barrel. I bought one years ago when Walmart was getting rid of firearms. They had them on clearance for 400 dollars. Regular price was over 800 dollars. Would i buy it again . NO. I have very little use for it. I prefer a 20 guage Mossberg shotgun.
And just like that this list is obsolete. S&W FPC #1
I keep my desert eagle because I can't stand the taste of this place.
9mm pistol ammo is extremely unusable for survival. Survival is about stopping power and range. Because mainly is survival about hunting and deterring predators. This means you need 100-300 meters accuracy range and 2-4 kJ of muzzle energy. Thus sweet pot is 7,62mm. Weapon has to be sturdy, reliable, simple and maintainable without any tools or with tools you always have (ie rim on ammo casing for AK or SVD). Any fold-ability is welcome letter for malfunction.
Shotguns are problematic due large ammo and short range.
Little badger is child toy.
Well well...
Bugout Gun is not for gun fighting with other gun man.
It's for hunting for food.
Don't need to be an AR-15.
22LR is better.
Of course, need a gun for self defense too.
It should be a pistol rather than a rifle.
Thus, complete bugout gun setting is one 22lr rifle for hunting and one 9mm pistol for self defence.
That's it.
Would a bug out gun be more for travelling light, getting out of the city quickly possibly on foot. Possibly in a 9/11 scenario where civilians had to cross bridges on foot our of manhattan?
pistol caliber rifles are pointless. you've used the cartridges maximum potential after 5 inch through the barrel. just get a handgun, it's more compact and just as effective
92's and accuracy are not things naturally bonds together...
Sub 2000
Ruger 10/22 brick of 500 rounds
22 magnum is over priced and not as available as 22 lr.........22 lr will take all small game for the pot. Some hill Billy's claim they take deer with a 22 lr using a head shot. U omitted break open shot guns. Break open shot guns in 12 or 20 gauge allow u to use all types of ammo in those gauges. The 12 is most available. Using shrink tubes in the shot gun allows u to fire pistol or rifle calibers in the shotgun. Carry shrink tubes in calibers u are likely to encounter like police and military calibers. Get the longest tubes u can buy as the short 3-4 inch tubes are inaccurate in calibers that require rifling. There are many new break open guns available from $99-150.…....

This video proves how many people make videos about things they know nothing about. For instance, the Kel Tec Sub 2000. The Sub 2000 has a reputation as a firearm that will start to come apart during use because of its poor design. Bet your life on a weapon that come apart? Yes, I guess that makes it a "BEST" gun.....NOT!
Where's your video? If you know more than everyone else, why are you not sharing your invaluable opinion?
Your ignorance is astounding. My Sub is flawless. 40 S&W. W/Glock 23. One mag two guns. Come get some.
