Glad I didn't go for the combo, and just went with the RP5. Also the gray is too dark and dirty looking, which again, glad I didn't go for, was very close to choosing it over the GC color. Glad I stuck with my original choice and didn't get the MINI combo. Mind you, in the MINI, the gray was like the only good choice.
Really don't get all the hate on this. I get it's not for everyone but as far as small 4:3 handhelds go this is a huge upgrade to a lot of the ones we've seen in the past. I get some people want bigger screens but there's a bunch of devices out there with bigger screen from Retroid and a bunch of other companies. If this is not what you're looking for because you want switch or a widescreen or more power or bigger screen there are plenty of other options out there. Not every device will be for everyone and you don't have to buy everyone. For me I loved my rp2s. I just hoped for an upgrade. And this is an upgrade in every way. Bigger better screen more power better ergonomics. I say continue to give us choices and give us small and big screen devices. I don't want every device to be huge and I don't want every device to be small. I want choice and options. Not every system or situation is the same so having choice is nice.

Just for size comparison: If I’m correct the effective screen size for 4:3 content on the RP 4 should be around 3.75. For the RG Cube it should be 3.5. That means in theory, if you were fine with these handhelds in terms of screen size for 4:3, the mini should also be fine.

I wish Retroid could widen the screen to 3:2 aspects while maintaining current screen height and frame size. So that it'd still be as good for 4:3 while being much better for 16:9 PSP and some light Vita/Switch. As I have RP4P and Pocket S, I was leaning towards Mini but ended up ordering RP5 instead as an RP4P backup. I got the og rp4 with a green tinted screen.
I would like to see the RP5 vs the 4Pro to see how much of a difference the RP5 makes having a more supported chipset than the pro. Since I know on paper they're basically even. BUT synthetics are one part of the story.

It honestly depends on ur eyesight and what ur comfortable with, but most people can see everything even text at native resolution which it should run fine for most ps2 games

@shirokuro73 ill show them together a bit more in tomorrow's video! Odin 2 Mini is very nice, more pricey, but performs better as well. A little heavier of course too.
The glass looks like glossy plastic and cheapens the device, while also making it more fragile for no real reason but silly aesthetics while also making it harder to make 3rd party screen protectors for. NOW, if they did the proper AYA NEO thing and inset the glass, it would look more premium.

SEE, THIS HERE, IS WHAT I LOOK FOR AND IS IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ONLINE. A list of games that you can test a system's capability on. Like Rogue Squadron and F Zero Fire course for GC is a known, Golden Eye and Conkers are N64s known, PS1 is Bloody Roar 1 and 2, We have PS2 now (Also commonly see Dragon Quest VIII??? chosen), would love to know Saturn's, Dreamcast, CD, SNES, GBA, etc. Since Sometimes you stumble upon a handheld you like that you know is only going to do 2D games primarily. Like PSP has God of War and Midnight Club 3 DUB edition. I know with SNES it's the games with the custom co-processors that are struggles. Which I think Star Ocean is one, and so is Star Fox.
@@tdata545 and actually for PSP a good one to check is Killzone Liberation, still won't play and many newer handhelds. Still haven't tried it on my Odin 2, but it has a lot of slow down issues. And PS1 a little know game to test is Warriors of might and Magic. I've had handhelds that play both Bloody Roar 1 and 2 well, but Warriors would still slowdown.

4:3 content on the RG Cube will be smaller than on this. The Cube has a 3.95" screen but keeping the aspect ratio means you get about 3.5" of actual picture.

Its to hide the regular thick black bezels of the oled display, if they didnt use the glass it would in fact be edge to edge if u put back the black bezels. And they couldnt put a bigger screen because it wouldnt be Oled if they did
Every single time a new device comes out people trash talk it , be it Retroid , Anbernic , Miyoo ... nothing is ever good enough. The trick is if you liked it and the chip plays the games you want to play then it's the right one for you.
No device is perfect and everyone's going to have complaints. That doesn't mean it's a bad device or wouldn't be a good device for you. Nothing that was said in the stream has deterred me from wanting this because for my needs and for what I'm looking for it's perfect. Sounds like this wasn't the right device for you. Good you figure that out before spending your money. Hope you find something that can fit your needs
Always the same old boring game requests. Why not something like shin megami tensei lucifers call, persona 3, suikoden 5 for ps2 and maybe mario sunshine and baten kaitos for game cube?
Can't really judge a screen based on a live stream where they didn't properly set up the camera to get the best picture quality and there's RUclips compression. Will look different and most likely much better in person.
This screen is hideous. It's so miscolored, it looks like it needs serious AA just to read normal OS text, it flickers CONSTANTLY... That's OLED for ya. Surprised it didn't start ghosting like all OLED, too. 1:17:09 WTF is with AWFUL those blacks are? Why are they LIT UP??? Isn't this garbage OLED?
@@BrandonTweed No, that's supposed to be black. There's plenty of points in the video where "black" backgrounds are NOT black. It's illuminating blacks harder than an IPS screen.

Not everyone only wants to play giant large heavy devices. I love my steam deck OLED but I'm not playing game boy on it. I also love my smaller handhelds. Having a choice depending on the situation or type of game or type of system you're playing is nice.

For me the proportions look cheap. They should of either put a bigger screen or made it narrower. So much wasted space.

The One Plus 8T runs on SD865. It runs just about anything on PS2 with the proper settings. Often upscaled. It's an excellent choice for that device.

The background of the screen at the timestamp you listed is supposed to be gray, not black. You can see there's true black in parts of the thumbnails.
@@BrandonTweed No, that's supposed to be black. There's plenty of points in the video where "black" backgrounds are NOT black. It's illuminating blacks harder than an IPS screen.

@@BrandonTweed Actually look at the video. Nothing is being "incorrectly seen". This video is legitimately showing a poor quality IPS, NOT even an OLED. The concerning thing is all of Retroid's videos show the same issues.

They aren't even remotely comparable, even if they had a comparable price :D I would never play on a brick like the steam deck etc.
@@Rudgged i got my Ally used for a little over €300. Which is very close to the RP5 with shipping included. Can't wait for my RP5 to compare it to though.
Not everyone only wants to play giant large heavy devices. I love my steam deck OLED but I'm not playing game boy on it. I also love my smaller handhelds. Having a choice depending on the situation or type of game or type of system you're playing is nice.
