This masterpiece has a 39% on rotten tomatoes from the critics and an 89% user score. We, the audience, know this to be art.
And it is the audience's opinion that really matters, the audience is what makes a movie successful.
Well, he did make his masterpiece
Rotten Tomatoes doesn't know shit, you're right this was a masterpiece.
No way! This is amazing
I said this before. “I love the way he loved her”❤️
The fact that Dakota didn’t get nominated for an Oscar for any of the movies she appeared as a child is a crime.
She is one of the greatest child actors of all time (if not the greatest).
I think she’s the greatest still
Not really if you think bout it… she’s sucks so ya know lol
Well people didn't like Dakota in the War Of The Worlds, simply because she screams all the time. But I agree with you!
Nah
She had skills, sure, but she also had that annoying 'child actor' persona in every role she played -- which seemed constructed, and a lot of people don't find that charming in a child.
This was the best depiction of a war torn, suicidal killer who finds a reason to live in a young child he becomes a father figure to. Denzel and Dakota’s chemistry is just breathtaking
It’s up there with Robin Williams in Mrs doubtfire and Daniel day Lewis in gangs of New York
The fact they join forces 19 years later in Equalizer 3
So was your synopsis. You said it all, man. 🥹😭😭😭🥹🥹❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥

Denzel is a LEGEND.
His natural ability to carry an entire film
is the reason that he will be remembered
forever.
Don't forget to mention Dakota Fanning.
Watched The Hurricane last night and DW was immense in that film.
Yeah man, Denzel is a total master at his trade.
Definitely the GOAT!
Denzel is THE Legend.
That's crazy. He was so familiar with death he didn't even panic knowing his death was inevitable. Instead he had peace he could save the one he loved. Legend.
He actually wanted to commit suicide for a long time. He accepts this kind of death since it means something and he'll die knowing he saved someone he cared for.
@@dredgewalker Think about how a single moment changed his entire life. Imagine if that gun had gone off instead of failing. He would never have been friends with Pita, or felt love again. He would have died a coward rather than a hero.
That's why we must be careful with the choices in our life.
One moment can change everything.
He's very good friends with death. He definitely didn't fear it
He died happy and complete .
It’s a movie . That’s why
The sharp exhale as he gathers and prepares himself to greet his love, and to say goodbye to her. A masterpiece.
I was holding my own all thru the move.. until that exhale.. that got me so bad...so bad...
What tore me up was when he got out the car and he and mom locked eyes but said nothing.
My stupid eyes started leaking at this point. I don't know why.
This ending hits hard. But what's more awesome is that after so many years Dakota is reuniting with Danzel on Equalizer 3, she plays the detective.
You mean cia operative which was denzels former work in this movie
how did this movie not win any awards. one of the greatest in my opinion
Definitely one brilliant film very moving one of the best movies he made I knew this would be good at the beginning him and Christopher Walken together 👍
Hurt locker got many awards lol
@@mieroq that movie was stupid.
Because the Academy is full of betas.
Because it’s about child trafficking. And that makes Hollywood uncomfortable to see their hobby on the screen
Denzel deserved an Oscar for this movie.
Absolutely!!!
Agree, but to Denzel it's not about Oscars, it's about playing the character in the story and portraying him as written to the satisfaction of the audience; His words in an 1992 print interview. He is a very conservative christian who branched off and away from HW to produce movies and select his own character in written stories and bring it to life on screen. Him, Tommy Lee Jones and Mel Gibson are independent movie producers who don't want anything to do with the filth in Holly Wood or the Oscars. Just FYI.
@@nbk9372 I don't blame them.
The ending was alright but the start of the movie was needlessly long for no reason
Denzel deserves an Oscar for almost every movie he is in. Phenomenal actor.

I'm a grown man but this scene always puts a tear in my eye, such dedication.
Such a noble thing he did. We can only hope as men to be as brave and as ruthless and fearleass as this man was portrayed. I think certain circumstances would lead any one of us to such brutality.
I’m a grown man and this shit makes me tear up every time too
It's ok for a grown man to show emotion
Exactly, because this a true love movie. This movie is worth dropping a tear for. Also a 5- star movie.
I find this to be a very underrated film. It mixes action with emotion and is worthy of more recognition. Man on fire is a brilliant piece of cinema
When I first watched this, the beginning was so slow I almost shut it off. After it finished, without that beginning, the movie would have fallen flat as just another action film. This is one of my all time favorite movies. The bond they created because of the little girls heart was incredible.
I think many forget or overlook the fact when Pita sees Creasy after the blindfold is removed, that she has only known that Creasy was killed when she was abducted. She never knew Creasy survived until that moment. Such a powerful scene.
After all these years never thought of that. Great point.
Same thought I had too!
@@Edsal23 Same.
So powerful, rips my heart out every time
Also that she knew nothing outside of her kidnapping ordeal. They shove her in yet another car blindfolded. She has no idea where she's going. Maybe to be killed. Blindfold off and there's her guardian angel. The full realization hits her that not only is he alive, but he and he alone has saved her from this horrible situation. All she knows is he somehow overcame all these scary dangerous men she has been around for weeks. Probably thought her life was over as well, not just his.
Denzel Washington was amazing in Trainning Day , but honestly he should have won an Oscar for this movie too , cause in this movie he was actually playing who he really is , a kind hearted human being and not some psychopath who thinks that is above King Kong.
Completely agree!!!!!!
This movie is better than training day
I love the fact that Denzel character died before they could kill him. It sounds weird but it's like in the end he won.
Thanks Siskle we got that 🙄
@@TheMaufwhy you gotta be like that with your Siskel comment? Uncalled for.

true
Pita changed him. Forreal. One of the best denzel movies ever
Agreed
You are so right! I never looked at this film that exact way before. He was most certainly waiting for her before he left the world. It is hard enough to find a reason to live as tormented Creasy is... Humanity looks for reasons to quit, give up, or die while they finally feel that they are worthy of GOD...
Someone worth living for.
The most heartbreaking part is when she said: I love you Creasy... You love me don't you!!! She wanted to confirm that he loved her. What a masterpiece!!
Man! I cried too
I just cried now!!
Tears streaming down my face right now.
True. It was obvious but hearing it does not hurt of course.
Jose . . . yeah. It was a rhetorical question -- for she knew Creasy loved her. Creasy was a damaged, impervious soul -- so much so that when Pita said she loved him, he probably would not have said it back if she hadn't asked him to confirm it. That's how deep and damaged he was. It was obvious he loved her all along, but he was so damaged, broken and impervious that he would not admit to it unless asked on the spot, which Pita did. She knew this, and hence why she asked it. Great writing, acting and cinematography!

Without a doubt 👏👏👏
I tried to keep it together but when Denzel hit us that sigh of relief I felt that, and I lost it.
I think most people cry when they see this scene, but for different reasons.
Some cause it's terribly sad, others because of the genuine love between Pita and Creasy, or maybe even some combination of the two.
But the reason this scene gets me is that it overwhelms me with a sense of pride.
It's the part right at 4:27 as he lets Pita go, knowing he'll never see her again and turns to face his fate, knowing all that's left for him is death and pain. He looks scared, but his will to do what must be done to save the ones he loves never wavers.
The level of courage it takes for a man to walk valiantly to his death to save others is the stuff of legends told around the world...and this scene is no exception.
Well said✌💪
I first heard the real story, as to what actually happened and to where this story first came about.
An Ex Regimant (British S.A.S) guy looked after a Family in South America. He had nothing left, no one to call family etc... The child was actually a boy.
The S.A.S. guy felt guilty, ultimately dishonoured after the boy was captured. He phoned his Mother, telling her of his situation. His brother answered the phone & then passing it to his Mother, with a shocked expression on his face,
He could see the life drain away from his Mother's face. The Mother listend to the final words of her HERO Son, as he told her where to find the boy whom he had helped to save.
I know this for a fact, as it was my Brother who saved him!
WHERE PILGRIMS DARE!
@Antonio Paulette, well said. Peace be with you.
Very well-put. Like the way the cowardly brother who's already sniped him the fatal shot runs past him, crying, showing just how much stronger Creasey is than the criminals (and even that word doesn't seem strong enough - they have no honor).

The movie itself is a masterpiece but can we talk about the soundtrack?? What a great music editing …
A masterpiece of a film, this movie took me on a whirlwind of emotions throughout. By far one of Denzell's best works..
All Pita wanted was Creasy's friendship. Creasy had become dead inside, and wasn't able to love. Pita's sweetness broke down the barriers Creasy had built over the years. That's what brings a tear to my eye watching this.

sad it takes hollywood make believe for a female to see a man sacrifice his life for a child when men do it every single day... and yet females ignore it....Lauria wright open your eyes that everyday men are going to work doing dangerous jobs for their kids...jobs that could kill them in a instant...yet you ladies act like it's nothing.
Jesus Christ died to save a lot of children
So do i
Good men make sacrifices for their children every day. Work boots falling apart but kids are growing and need new shoes. Kid eat a good meal and you eat ramen instant noodles. You wear holy work shirts so you're kids get new ones. Work a job you hate with all your being but the money is good and your kids are happy.
Your kids never know what you do for them. The little sleep you got working two full time jobs. It's done every day in all parts of the world. Father's doing all they can. To make sure their kids have, even if it means they go without. These are the men to be acknowledged and revered. I guarantee you know one as they are everywhere. Make sure you thank them.

Underrated performance by Radha Mitchell She had to express so many emotions here. She knew that "Creasy" was going to trade his life for her daughter's life. She was also sort of in love with him (especially based on the unreleased footage) but she still did what she had to do and made the calculus that her daughter deserved to live more than any of the rest of them
Exactly the way she notices the blood dripping of his hand and the way she looks at him when he’s getting up like
Just shocked he’s willing to go this far for Pita😭
Solo las personas que tienen el don de diferenciar cada lugar cada cultura y cada momento sabemos que esra pelicula es un tesoro
During this scene Creasy was dead for a while. His will kept him alive from all the lack of blood and possible infections he had from the bullet wounds. Creasy grew to love Pita so much more than any father could love his own daughter. Creasy was Pitas guardian angel. I feel Tony Scott installed Creasy as a near immortal with the power of love making him almost god like. Living just enough to save Pita. One of my top 3 movies for sure. RIP Creasy.

Charlie Robles a real man would die for there loved ones, would be there for them whenever they need them, would show compassion, emotion etc. The definition of a real man is having honour, love and respect.
In the end, he won. The Voice didn't get the pleasure of torturing or killing Creasy. He died on a car ride knowing he saved the person that gave him back the meaning of life that was once lost to him. He went in pass. It was a good ending.

She didn't know he was wounded, but she did realize he loved her so much that died for her. Because he did; he could've sought medical treatment, but it would've slowed him down, locked him in place and kept him from doing what was necessary to find her. He made the choice not to.

She left me, went to her mom and i never saw her again in my life. That is about 20years ago. Mentally i had to cut her loose. You have to expierence that yourself to understand, really. Looking at Dakota stirred up the memories i have from her. She was my God, en left by leaving me a huge hole in my heart. I have the movie myself, and when i think of her i watch the flick. Shit happens to the nicest people with the best intentions i guess.
I did gave a comment last night, when i read your own comment. On my cellphone, placed it and everything. You didn't get any?
He died for her dumbass
This is so beautiful.
Imagine the trauma that little girl goes thru daily knowing her angel died for her.
"Where you going?"
"I'm going home too..On the Blue Bayou."
I swear to Christ as a grown ass man it breaks a tear to me every single time because the thought of her only knowing that he's going back home peacefully but won't be living in it. That's love and giving them life to give up yours..
In the future, Pita will run into him in Boston and she will say to him, "I searched throughout the Blue Bayou for you and I end up finding you at Home Mart of all places!"
Denzel was really good in this movie but Dakota Fanning was something else!! She played the role like nobody else could. 10/10!!!
they where pretty great indeed
they are not competitors .they play their roles for a film
THE GUNSHOT HOLDS NO FEAR!
Yep stole the movie even denzel gave her props as being the real star of the film
Yes she was incredible
Am far from a film buff/critic but this film is just so perfectly assembled to engage you entirely it’s a work of art. The music is so perfectly matched with this scene.
You cannot watch this and not be moved. Tony Scott is a genius
Beautiful performance by Denzel that scene with the bullet misfiring hit hard. The ending was great too. Creasys sacrifice at the end for his friend knowing he wasn’t coming back. Great movie. 💯
When Pita screams Creasy's name after they release her chokes me up every time I see it.
thats becoz we are men scott!
Yeah, same here😒
Same here
EVERY TIME!!!
Me too
One of the most defining scenes of what a man will do to protect, defend, and go through for someone that he truly loves. In my opinion Denzel Washington's best job as an actor. Absolutely love this movie, and what it means to those who most need it!!
Good to see dakota and Denzel reunited in equilizer 3
The climate the bridge the trees surrounding all played their part perfectly !!!
This is the dream of all old warriors who’s bodies are broken. To go out with that one last righteous act. Death ends the pain, but that righteous death, that is the dream.
Amen to that. True. Only true warriors feel this
Beautiful.
People are not afraid of death but are afraid to die without doing something good . Without letting something good behind .
How did you know it? Were you there already?
Just don't repeat like a parrot what others said before you. Try say something which is truly you.
That’s actually my real fear what you said
@@florinplesca7771 why can't we repeat what others say if we can relate to it? Open up that closed mindset.
"And you love me, don't you?"
"Yes, I do."
😭😭😭
Stop!
Such a hugely underrated movie...
This movie is a great example of why Denzel Washington is such a huge star. He does a great job of picking good film projects. We trust him. This film is one of my favorites and the ending is wonderful. It got mixed reviews, but the audience loves it. Man on Fire is one of my favorite Denzel films.
Late to this comment: watched it for the first time last night. An amazing film, I think parallel between "critic" and "audience" scores speak volumes with how it was recieved. Just about held back the tears by the end 😩
Agree 100% and Denzel is one of the very best actors. This is one exceptional movie too.
My favorite actor.
No shit Una palada
The fact he was already on the cusp of death long before this scene but he hung on until he got to see her one last time and made sure she got back home safely 🥺🥺🥺🥺
