Fantastic movie. I must have watched it a dozen times. I will say it does bug me that Greasy agrees to hand himself over for Peeta. He had the brother, wife and unborn child as bargaining chips. Could have just traded them for Peeta. But I can also see how his life is needed as the other side May forever fear repercussions from him.
When Daniel Ramos aka. 'The Voice' asked John Creasy how much money does he want, it struck a nerve and angered him deeply within him, because he doesn't want his money, he wants his life because he took Pita's life from him, 'blood for blood'. Creasy angrily swore to him that he will take and destroy everyone he loves, everything he has, and everything he desires within his heart, piece by piece, and leave him with nothing so that he will suffer for it, like he suffered when he lost Pita because of him, and kill him.
No way he would've taken that deal, if he wasn't already dying. He wouldn't have to, because he has the voice's pregnant wife and brother as a hostage. It was more like 3 lives for a life.
I think the wife is iffy, since they're not actually "together" anymore. But the brother yes, I think that that moment when he found out she's alive he just wanted to be sure that Daniel doesn't back out or do something by giving him the better deal.
The movie is flawed because of this. He was already risking his life just by making the exchange. But both parties had equal foot in the negotiation. It would be the same illogical twitst if Creasy asked for Pita AND The Voice's life in exchange for just him. Great movie, up to that point.
@@sovo1212 Sorry, but no. You're missing the entire sub-context of the movie. Creasy is an assassin looking for redemption in this world. That's why he drinks, that's why carries the bullet that failed to fire when he tried to kill himself. He feels guilt over his life as a killer, regardless of govt sanctioned or not, he knows he's repeatedly violated the laws of the Christian God and will suffer eternal damnation for his actions. That's why he is depressed and despondent earlier in the movie. He knows he's going to hell so what's the point of continuing on in this world. Fast forward to where Pita brings him joy, Pita reaffirms life is good. He fails to protect Pita and Pita is killed (as far a he knows). Creasy then sets about on a path of revenge, again violating the Christian God. Creasy is not killing La Hermanidad in an effort to save Pita, he thinks she's dead. His violence is based in rage, hate, and vengeance. Now we get this scene where Pita is alive, and will only continue to stay alive if Creasy surrenders and allows himself to be killed. Knowing he will be killed in a horrific manner. This is the moment the entire movie is building towards. This is Creasy's moment of salvation. Creasy is not trading his life for Pita's because he know he's gonna be dead in a few days. He's walking, talking, and fighting in this scene. Certainly if he walked into a hospital his wounds would heal and he could live to be 99 years old. No, he is willingly trading his life for Pita's, in the same manner that the Christian Jesus traded his life for all humanity. (I'm debating religion, just explaining how if applies to the narrative of this movie). By this act, Creasy willingly giving his life for Pita, the Christian God absolves Creasy of his past sins. Creasy's life is reaffirmed, he is not just a killing machine. When called upon Creasy was able to give the ultimate sacrifice, his life, to save the life of another. His past sins of murder have not destroyed his soul.

It’s not in the same context whatsoever and I know this movie came out before The Dark Knight but it really does remind me of what Michael Caine says in that film regarding how some men can’t be bought because it’s the principle of the matter. He coulda walked, he coulda got paid…but he didn’t because it’s not about that. It’s about sending a message and an idea.
Agreed 👍

A true MASTERPIECE i could even say! one of my most top 10 favourites of all time movies. A Denzel Washington at his best in this movie. A great performance of actors, great story. All in all A very good movie. My verdict would be a 8.5/10
An absolute Masterpiece. One of my faves.

Very bad ass in their own ways
I wish they would’ve made a part 2 a second movie for this. This is one of the best movies.
This movie was a remake. But remake was better than the original
I have Paramount plus but I got it in 4k hdr it's even more incredible
no inv?
best scene of all time , the best is when he says Peta is dead like a soldier !
Another masterpiece film is V For Vendetta and one of the greatest lines ever is…”ideas are bulletproof”. Absolutely adore this film, just a masterpiece. Rest in paradise to Tony Scott for such a beautiful film.
Denzel the most slept on actor in the last 20 years he don't need the awards we all know why he got passed over
The guys at the office are like “wow this is like a movie”
"you tell her to tell you to tell me what she called her bear"
I no This was one of the best movie's This was an absolute masterpiece I'm Talking about Man on fire Send it for me pretty please I no There's a lot of Absolutely Brilliant movie's of Denzel Washington out There🙏🙏
We all dream of revenge like this if god forbid something like this happened to us. That's why I think it's so appealing to us as an audience in so many ways. That's where the critics got it wrong, they had no feeling for it
The critics don't have children. Children would take the attention off them.
Merci pour le partage ! DENZEL WASHINGTON , THE BEST acteur ! 👍👏🐞🦋🌹
The sound as it builds towards the moment that Chrissy shoots off the man's fingers. Work together perfectly.
Creasy bear....🥺🥰
Its the past now nothing will ever change that.
Don't care about Training Day. Him handing the phone to this man and shooting off his other hand with a shotgun and then saying he doesn't care about money but he wants HIM? Coldest scene in movies.
My best Denzel's movie, the best actor ever
What it shows is how Denzel is one of the greatest !! Brando , deniro , Denzel , gary Oldman …
