I love this role by Denzel, almost no one could pull this role off like the great original Edward Woodward did but Denzel manages it with his own unique character.
This dynamic between Denzel and Dakota is so wholesome and awesome at the same time. It’s mentor/protegé, boss/understudy, adversary/paladin - all in one.
Wow, they both played characters together in Men on Fire in 2004. Dakota was a little girl at the time and now she full grown woman. Denzel still looks the same tho. ❤

The Late Great Tony Scott directed that move! I don't know who I liked better Tony or Ridley but both of those brothers were insanely great directors! They knew how to use talent and they don't come no more talented than the Denzel! Man on Fire was freaking Monumental!
Dakota is really getting into her prime as far as skillset is concerned, not only she's a amazingly beautiful woman but she has that acting presence, that voice, those eyes... really original and unforgettable actor.
I disagree, I think she is not a good actress. Her mannerisms don't match the scene. Sitting across from Denzel she seems woefully out of place. His acting skills really point out her scripted conversation.
@@SlothfulSins I think thats why it works. She fits the "I'm trying" role.... while he is the perfect "been there, done that" seasoned guy. If she didn't have that could learn a thing or two vide in that scene, it would have been a miss.

He is 100% a good guy and a total no BS no PC kind of guy, I love his interviews, literally zero tolerance for Hollywood BS, I could see Denzel as a veteran cop or soldier if he was not a actor.
Denzel is a good guy in real life. Two college buddies were on the film Remember the Titans (filmed in Atlanta) back in the day. One of them had spent more time with Denzel during filming and said he was the real deal off camera, giving advice (professional and life) to the younger guys (regardless of the amount of screen time each guy had.) and always chatting with the crew. There were more stories, but my boys said to know him is to love him.
Look who grew up? It's a big girl now in charge. I still remember her tears from Men on fire. It's nice Denzel's in touch with her all these years, his daughter too.👍
In Man on Fire, when Dakota as a little girl says to Denzel "you love me too" before he walks off to meet his fate now that she is safe, is one of the most emotional scenes..go check it out.
To be so loyal to a friend and go out of your way to be there for there offspring even at personal risk is admiral it’s a trait most will never understand.

I don't buy it at all that Collins didn't know McCall or who he was or what he was capable of before looking him up. After all, he knew her parents and worked with her mother. I doubt they didn't talk about a "Robert McCall" around the house around her.
Having worked with people who've served in the military, the good ones are good at operational security (i.e. not talking about stuff in front of people they're not supposed to). Susan Plummer was in intelligence, and she as much as anyone would have been strict on not leaking stuff to civilians (like her daughter), including details about wetwork operatives. McCall stresses his name because he knows Collins will look him up. He expects her to find him, either in the system or via her mom's notes. When she comes back in a later scene saying she has no idea who he is, he seems genuinely surprised. He was expecting the daughter of his DIA handler, who's now in the CIA, to be able to find something on him. My headcanon is that Plummer found a way to get McCall expunged from the records (either before or after she knew he faked his death). I was expecting a scene where Collins goes to her parents' home, finds her mom's trove of old documents, and reads the paper version of his file that she stole from the DIA. That's a classic Hollywood trope.
I wish they would do a fourth movie. Dakota gets in trouble captured and Denzel saves her. Would bring everything around full circle and would be a great way to end the movies.
Spoiler alert don't read if you haven't seen the movie: Of course I loved the movie wanted to see how it ended since I'm obsessed with 1 & 2. The only think I found confusing is at the end we find out Dakota Fanning role as Emma Collins is the daughter of Robert's best friends Mellisa Leo & Bill Pullman but their names in the series were Susan & Brian Plummer.
I like Fanning in this scene. I hated her in War of the Worlds lol both kids annoyed the fuq out of me but she's really good here. Understated, trying to read McCall
It's funny she actually thinks she would be able to even try to take him in or even remotely be able to intimidate him. He's the deadliest guy in the room who can kill ya with literally anything around him.
That smile was more Denzal showing how proud he is of Dakota and how far she has come since Man on Fire :)

He faked his death. I also think he was a bagman, so no one was supposed to know who he was. You get that when they show his team in part 2.
Many agents are unlisted, outsourced. CIA doesn't like trace backs
