This by far is my favorite scene, Creasy is torn between justice and mercy. He wants to let Samuel live, but he can't because of his promise. He doesn't want to destroy the family that gave him salvation, but he knows he is damned to the deed and decides to leave it to chance, the bullet that lied. The line I'll pray for you is heartbreaking because it can be interpreted so many different ways. Is he praying Samuel lives? Praying for his salvation? The way i see it Creasy left it in God's hands being unable to pass judgement secretly hoping he would live and the family heal, but not surprised to hear the truth.
The look of betrayal on her eyes as she learned the truth... Even Washington's character, in the entire movie he can maintain his cool when bullets are flying at him, but for this scene he was breathing heavily and was losing his cool while confronting them. Wonderful acting, Denzel knew that even this character would be more affected to be in the presence of who he thinks was behind what happened than he would be from actual threats to his life. Also, kudos to him clearing that firearm in the correct sequence...
He was also shot multiple times 1 of which was the chest and lungs, his breathing would be labored just lying down. He's dying but not before his last act for that little girl.
@@TalkingHands308 No. He got shot then, too. How the hell do u think they kidnapped Pita? Creasy was shot 2 maybe 3 times while trying to thwart her kidnapping. Marc Anthony did an outstanding job. This movie has so many powerful moments. One of the best action and deeply profound movies on the psyche of human behavior.
You can really see what Christopher Walken meant when he said "she showed him it was alright to live again" and the kidnappers took that away? "And they're gonna wish, they'd never touched a hair on her head" Crease was ready to do the mom even at first.
@@johnnyblazem5326 lol He means he was ready to kill the mom, if she had something to do with the kidnapping. Love how you can hear him breathing loudly, as if he’s incredibly enraged thinking both parents were in on it.
@Billy Tresco This was A black Ops..well basically an assassin. He, like everyone else, believed Pita was dead. He wasn't out to rescue her at this point. He was there to wage war on everyone who had anything to do with her killing and kidnapping. This was a machine not a man killing the mom would be no different than killing the president for him had she been involved. Also highly intelligent not just a killer. Denzel gets so much recognition for this role (as he should) and mad props to Radha Mitchell (also very well deserved) but I think Marc Anthony deserved more recognition for his role, especially in this scene. The whole movie he's a fairly composed, confident man and loving father and husband, but here as he starts confessing it all falls away and the desperation becomes apparent. And I love that as he's telling her, you can almost pinpoint the moment he lost his wife's love when he says "I did it for us". In that moment the realization that he can't undo what's been done, no matter how badly he wants to. Just an incredible movie all around.
One of my favourite movies. Never cried so much at an ending, but worth it. I always tell people to watch this all the way through, without interruption, and guarantee the ending will hit hard… no one has disputed it yet…
This movie is tragically underrated..It came out a few years after Training Day and people got a whole different type of movie..I've never seen grown men cry at the end of a movie like this in a theater..
Man on Fire was such a great title for this movie. It symbolizes two things aabout Denzels character "Creasy" Like a fire, he burned with rage, chaos and destruction. But also, just as every fire dies out after unleashing its wrath, well....you know.
xSteel FeveRx.......'Man on Fire' [Denzil Washington] is a re-make of the 1987 Italian/French co-produced film of the same title, starring Scott Glenn as 'Creasy'. The storyline in Tony Scott's 2004 remake is virtually identical - and Scott's portrayal of 'Creasy' acts as a very accurate template for Washington. As an interesting footnote - Tony Scott [who directed the 2004 remake] was actually selected to direct the original 1987 version of the film. However, the studio thought he was too inexperienced and instead appointed French director Élie Chouraqui. Finally, 'Man on Fire' is based on the 1980 novel of the same name written by AJ Quinnell.
@@thesoultwins72 The Quinnell novel is excellent. The story being set in Italy and Creasy going after the Mafia is so much better than the story of this film. The terrific characters Luigi and Colonel Satta- or characters like them- are completely missing from the film, unfortunately.
This scene is poetic and beautiful in a way specially if you know the ending..denzel could have easily killed him.but he was still peta's dad and couldn't do that her..so he gave him the chance to commit suicide.

@Billy Tresco Nicholson is the most nominated male actor in academy awards history. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, A Few Good Men, Chinatown, The Shining, As Good as it Gets, Departed. If there is one critique it is that he plays people that are all on the edge of crazy or downright crazy. That said I don't see Hanks on that same level. Hanks best performance was Road to Perdition. He also had zany films if you recall Bachelor Party, which was great, but nobody remembers that stuff because he moved on to more serious roles. It's an opinion thing and yeah I threw in the "Fuck" because I hate his politics and I do believe he was directly involved with Epstein so there ya go.
@@siberwolf33 Brando is better. The thing about Brando is he has such stunning personal charisma and gravitas that even when he's putting in 10% effort on something he's doing strictly for the money and doesn't give a tinker's damn about, like Superman, he still manages to own every second he's on the screen. And Brando in his prime, like in the Wild Ones? No one touches him, not even Alec Guinness or Daniel Day Lewis.
The way i see it Creasy left it in God's hands being unable to pass judgement secretly hoping he would live and the family heal, but not surprised to hear the truth.
lmao shut up
@@Josh-it6uy SMH... Troglodyte.
@@Mrmedia046 TROOOOOGDOOOORRRRRR!!!
Well said. That's a good analysis.
Incredible! I love how you broke it down
The look of betrayal on her eyes as she learned the truth...
@@900KING2 Pretty sure he gets shot in the chest AFTER this scene. That was when he was chasing down the brother of "The Voice."
@@TalkingHands308 No. He got shot then, too. How the hell do u think they kidnapped Pita? Creasy was shot 2 maybe 3 times while trying to thwart her kidnapping. The final shot he took almost killed him. He then went to a hospital where the INTERPOL guy put him in a secure location where he needed to stay for months. He left shortly after still all F'd up to find these pricks.
@@900KING2 Ah, if you're talking about that kidnapping scene. I mean, he did get hospital care for those wounds. And you don't see him breathing heavily in other scenes either... He's totally calm in every other scene besides this one and more towards the end.
@@TalkingHands308 Dude, just admit that you're wrong and your input was not only inaccurate but flawed and false. Why can't people be accountable for when they are wrong, it's not a bad thing. I say it all the time. And I love the passive attempt you make at dismissing the fact that he was shot twice, once in the chest as simply "wounds" Let someone shoot you like that if they are just wounds, bet you won't. The man also went into the swimming pool to relieve pressure where in that scene blood is oozing from his body as he's badly hurt. I mean, did you even see the F'ing movie? Or did you make a comment and it got 65 likes and you got so excited that you can't see anything else.
The actress who played Lisa here is INCREDIBLE and 100% on par with Denzel. Just brilliant!! 👏🏽
Rahda Mitchell
Denzel brought Creasy to life here, and Creasy accomplished his mission, as no one else could've ever done. He "streamlined" justice, which is the only way he c0uld've accomplished his mission, and he knew that. As his long-time friend said: this would be Creasy's "masterpiece". And it was. The actress who played the mom was stellar as well.
Radha Mitchell. Very underrated actress.
one of the greatest movies of all time.
@Hoghs that’s debatable. I mean, have you even read yours?
@Hoghs The comment above was so dumb, you had to edit the comment before you posted it because you thought you were in the running for The Dumbest Comment in the world.

@Hoghs what makes the comment dumb exactly? What's wrong with the movie?
I love this movie but One of the greatest of all time? Not sure about that. I will say the acting in this is really, really good from everyone.
Creasy loved Pita more than her own father did.

Yes. And it is even more clear in the book
Right he loved her so much he gave his life for hers
Nope

@@apocratos0174 Creasy surrendered his life to save Pita's, the father surrendered Pita's well-being to pay his debts. Creasy loved that little girl more than her father.
Denzel was fantastic in this scene. The husband was amazing in this. Top notch acting by everyone in this. The wife excellent too. Wow great powerful scene.
Jesus Christ, hell of a scene. Denzel's silence during the yelling says he understood. Smh. Damn exceptional acting.
"I am a professional", is the one line that gets me every time in this movie.
I keep hearing that- I hear everyone tell me that. "I'm a professional." I'M GETTING REAL TIRED OF HEARING THAT
“You move, you make one sound.. I’ll snatch the life right outta you, you understand?” One of the best movie threats all time!
As far as this film goes it ranks up with Walken’s line, “Creasy’s art is death. He’s about to paint his masterpiece”.
He then makes sounds and no life gets snatched out of him at all
can't stop watching this scene, WOW! when she says "you kill him, or i will" and the look on her face when samuel told her..that was some great acting there, verrry intense.
I’m not a Mark Anthony fan, but he did a great job as his character in this movie
Denzel is one of the best to ever do it.

“You move...you make one sound...I’ll snatch the life right outta ya”. Awesome line.
Such a great scene in a movie full of great scenes. This and the one where Walkins is describing Creasy as about to paint his masterpiece are perfect.
Denzel isn't just acting he is LIVING his roles dude is so fucking talented, and this movie is criminally underrated, a true gem in my eyes, top notch and GRIPPING story, amazing acting, amazing FX and stunts, the editing and direction I mean it does it all, and for that We LOVE IT!!!!...
The music adds so much to the movie also. Superb !
He has 1 movie I've only watched on because my heart can't take it.....john Q
4:51 i love how denzel turned back, he wasn’t expecting him to use the gun, because he was talking about biting the bullet
what do you mean biting the bullet??? You mean literally. I think he knew he was gonna kill him
This was a great scene. These actors did this story justice.
20 years...what an epic film
One of the best films of 2004
Objective: To fake the kidnapping of his own daughter.
Obstacle: The bodyguard he himself hired to protect his daughter.
Yeah, Samuel really fucked himself.
He needed to have one to keep the insurance policy. But to make the fraud easier, he got rid of the professional and hired a freelancer. Ha!
Didn't he somehow know that Creasy was a has-been, with a serious drinking problem, who would fail to protect Pita?
@@erik_dk842 I think that was the plan. Creasy had others.

Thank you for the scene.
I like when Denzel Washington said shut up to Marc Anthony gets me every time😂😂😂
Heavy breathing, "I'll snatch the life right out of you, you understand?!?"

But he did not do it! It was just a hollow threat that carried no weight or Samuel would not waited a mere 30 seconds before he ignored it!
nah, he didnt snatch the life right out of him when seconds later Samuel spoke. So it was a phony line

Denzel is one of the best actors that ever did it ! He can do any role and master it
You can really see what Christopher Walken meant when he said "she showed him it was alright to live again" and the kidnappers took that away? "And they're gonna wish, they'd never touched a hair on her head" Crease was ready to do the mom even at first.
In the first version he did have a affair with her but the test screens didn't like it so they took it out
@@johnnyblazem5326 lol He means he was ready to kill the mom, if she had something to do with the kidnapping. Love how you can hear him breathing loudly, as if he’s incredibly enraged thinking both parents were in on it.
He the equalizer
@@malasuertexch13 I didn't catch that until your post. LOL yes I meant do as in kill her 😅
@Billy Tresco This was A black Ops..well basically an assassin. Expert in weapons, tactics explosives etc.
It's so illegal how underrated this movie is

I wish it were improvised.
If it was, it'd be more if she actually jumped at the reaction.
Facts!!!!
If wasn't a famous musician this wouldn't have been a surprise...MA was superb in this role

When Denzel is mad in a movie, the intensity is real! And I love ❤️ it!
0:18 the heavy breathing that subtlety shows his inner rage is top tier acting.
One of Denzel's best movies ever, such a strong main character.
One not to be ashamed of because I was right there with you!
Man on Fire was such a great title for this movie. It symbolizes two things aabout Denzels character "Creasy"
Like a fire, he burned with rage, chaos and destruction.
Wow beta xDresser FeveRx you’re one deep woman
@@thesoultwins72 The Quinnell novel is excellent. The story being set in Italy and Creasy going after the Mafia is so much better than the story of this film. The terrific characters Luigi and Colonel Satta- or characters like them- are completely missing from the film, unfortunately.
