    1. You have a lovely, diverse collection, thanks for showing them to us. However I'm very curious about the other pens you have, that for whatever reason don't qualify for inclusion in this group. What are they and why don't you show them off?
    2. I have my drawing pens organized into "sets":
    - CORE SET: the best pen I own in each of the 14 sizes I use.
    - MINI SET: a range (EF, MF, B) of 3 Sailor Pro Gear Slim Minis that fit perfectly in a Kaweco 3-Sport case. Easy to carry on the go.
    - DEDICATED SET: 3 pens dedicated to Baystate Blue (BB), book annotation (PO) and a sketchbook with a single loop (Fude) in it.
    - OTHERS: pens that duplicate roles in the CORE set that I haven't had the heart to get ride of because I still love them. Probably most of
them are justifiable to keep for when I need two of a pen at the same time.
    - BEGINNER SET: A while back I fell in love with the nib and bought every one I could find (12). Now they sit in a bag, waiting for me to
come up with some grandiose project. Or maybe I'll just give them all to Chris Saenz for her children pens project.

      Hello Ichiro!
Thanks for the kind words! The others that aren’t shown are as follows: a Hoverpen that is on my desk in my office, three or so duplicate Esterbrook Js, couple of Etchr pens, a few MBs of questionable provenance that I keep for informational purposes, but probably should toss. A couple more Phileas and I think that is all. I love your organization. You always have a unique perspective. Well done

    • @puppetaccess

@Hemingway Jones Diplomat Aero and the Pilot Kakuno.
All but four of my collection are demonstrators. My main interest when it comes to pens is very much "show me something different".
This is one of the reasons I love PenBBS so much. Every model they do has something different and they are not afraid to do crazy things.
Like the 456 magnetic fill system... you didn't need to be a physicist to know that it was going to be logistically terrible - but it thumbing its nose to good sense just makes me love it all the more.
Their 355 is my favorite by far because of the filling system.
I love demonstrators because I value good engineering.

That Magna Carta with the "cut glass" finish is gorgeous! You may have actually talked me out of selling one of my Platinums with a similar finish. I have that same green Parker Duofold with the same discoloration: it's a chemical reaction from the sac off-gassing and the celluloid. Mine has a clip with a ball on it: Parker didn't always use their arrow clip.
Overall, a beautiful collection! Many more modern pens than mine, but I am thrilled to see that you have some vintage pens hidden in your collection. I haven't ever used a Conway Stewart vintage or otherwise. I'll have to change that!
Thank you for sharing this collection. Fun to see! You mentioned traveling, so now I'm curious about how many pens you take when you travel, and whether you take ink.

    • @HemingwayJones
      @HemingwayJones  Год назад +3

Hello, My Friend! That Magna Carta looks like a Chandelier. It is very pretty. I do wish it were a little slimmer. It is a lot of pen.
Thanks for the information on the Duofold. That is good to know. It makes sense. So I am assuming that is some sort of Celluloid. It’s like old film stock.
I should do a video on traveling. I just need to go somewhere! I have been so busy and 6 year old! Generally, it’s usually 4 pens or so, full of ink, and I usually carry those smaller 5ml, I think, bottles of Diamine in a favorite blue and Oxblood, because… Oxblood! Love that one.
I have this little Galen Leather leather travel bag for pens & Ink. I usually keep everything in there.
      Thanks so much for watching!

I have the same pen case, a gift from my very generous friend Gary. I need to do a video just of the lovely gifts he has made and found for me, and for others in our local pen community.
Your little "boop boop!" for the button fill made me laugh.
I have a Jinhao x750, which has a nice heft to it, but had a terrible, scratchy, misaligned nib. I recently got a replacement nib for it (I don't know what kind but it has a bear holding a shield on it) and it is now one of my faves to write with.
The pink Kaweco is a Blush Pitaya. I got the same one very early on in my pen obsession, and it wrote flawlessly on the first stroke. I wish I had a job where I used a pen (I work in several departments in film) so I could use them for more than just journaling.
I have a purple Himalaya with an ultra flex nib. A gorgeous pen, and very wet. I will try a koya no oto ink in it next. I hear they are drier than most, and I have a bunch of samples my sister bought me.
I don't own a modern Esterbrook, yet, but I just love the softly rounded edges of their arylic pens.
Beautiful collection! You should auction off the Jinhaos you hate. I bet your followers would love to bid! I think we all have pens we got when we were figuring out what we liked and what was worthwhile, which now languish in the backs of drawers..

I loved this video! Pen cases that stand up on my shelf like books are how I organize too although I'm jealous mine are several types but yet I guess they still look pretty nice on the shelf. Early in my journey I really liked the Monteverde 36 pen cases but once I got to try the Girologio, Ashton and Galen Leather ones ... I just like how they are constructed better. I'm in the process of organizing my fountain pens by category and/or brand. Some of them work out perfectly for that! One case has all my TWSBIs, one 10 pen case holds my Opus 88s and a 10 pen case also holds my Lamy's, and another 12 pen case is full of Jinhaos (metal ones). Pocket pens are a problem for me because so many are slim so I put those in a cigar box with a tray/liner. Now, this year I find I'll need to probably prepare space for all the student pens from my project ... most of them are inked up but I think one of those Monteverde cases may be the only one big enough to contain the herd. So many thoughts on organizing and curating a collection ... but I shall save some for my letter/reply! :) Super enjoyable video as usual Hemingway ... and it's clear you cherish your pens!!!!!!

    A relaxing video!
I’ve had a hectic and stressful work week, so it feels nice to just sit down and have something calming play in the background while I fill/refill my fountain pens and write out quick entries to document which inks are in each pen.
The Monteverde Super Mega and the Jinhao x450 in your collection are such gorgeous pens! While my preference runs towards solid-coloured, practical pens, I certainly appreciate the sheer artistry that goes into the design of some pens (looking respectfully at Namiki pens).
I usually like to keep 3 pens inked up at a time, today however I made the crazy(!) decision to ink up all 7 of my fountain pens.
Meanwhile I have a Pilot Kakuno (F) on the way, so that will leave 2 slots in my collection which I will reserve for future gold-nib pen purchases (currently aspiring for a Pilot and a Pelikan, not decided on specific models yet). Is it okay to count my Pilot Parallel pens separately, since I use them exclusively for practicing calligraphy? I sure hope so! 😂

"Hemingway Jones will return." That's a classy touch.
Nice to see Lamy Safaris represented alongside your bespoke pens.
When I first got a Lamy AL-star to try out as a shirt pocket pen, the clip didn't resonate with me. Then I realized that someone else into pens would recognize what it was. That's a potential conversation-starter, and then I noticed it's a very practical design. Cloth has to follow the curve of the cap between the two arms of the clip. That gives it a little extra purchase and I've come to think the AL-star is a perfect pocket pen.
Unfortunately, too many shirts have shallow pockets, prohibiting proper pen carry. I assume, as I believe any reasonable pen aficionado would, this is a conspiracy most foul wrought by word processor vendors hell-bent on backspacing the noble fountain pen out of existence.
Faugh! I flick my oversaturated feed in their general direction!
    Keep 'em flying, Hemingway.

Thanks so much! That was me riffing off of the end of a Bond film. I should pick up an AL Star sometime. The idea sounds brilliant. My shirts deep pockets. I tend to wear US made Oxford button downs from JPress and Mercer Shirt Co and neither of these have changed their designs in 40 years. These are of that wonderful fabric that becomes wrinkle resistant once it breaks in.
      Thanks for the kind words!

I have jinhao x450 exactly the same color for 8 years, never used it though, because it looked very flashy and i like to hide 😆 thinking of buying a liliput but reviews were not good, but now I am rethinking because you saying good about it

The Liliput is fun. It’s very small. Almost comically small, but has a good size nib. I love Kaweco nibs. Very nice and reliable.

I just haven’t got around to them. I don’t have Edison pens either, Scribo, Santini, This is a journey so i am sure I will get there. All the best.

Nice collection and video HJ 👍. I have 3 spaces left in my pen case. The Leonardo Furore Grande and an Esterbrook Estie will fill two of them. I keep looking at a CS Churchill but I don't think I can justify spending so much on one pen even though it is very beautiful. Any suggestions for something instead in a slightly lower price range but of similar quality? Thank You!

I forget, do you have a Pilot Custom 823? That is an amazing pen.

The Montegrappa Elmo is worthy of consideration for the comparably affordable prices and the all round quality and performance you can expect to get.

Hello HJ. What an eclectic collection. My Waterman Phileas was my first fountain pen so many years ago. To this day, it's still a favorite and a good writer. What was your very first fountain pen and do you still have and use it?

Thanks so much, Richard! I love the Phileas, still! My first pen was a Waterman, but I broke it in half! I am telling that story Tuesday night Live!

Great video. Fortunately I have had better results with my Jinaho pens . All including X450, X750, X159 Ana a few others wrote great out on the box. I often change nibs on the 450’s and 750’s but only to experience different nib widths and often revert to the original for a medium experience. Another bonus is I am comfortable tinkering with the Jinhao nibs because they are inexpensive. The blue X450, like yours, is one of my favorite “in hand” experiences. But the Jinhao’s are not my go to daily writers. They are mostly used ' to test a new ink in various nib widths on various papers.
My daily writers vary among ny Pilot, Platinum, Sailor, and Waterman pens . The Carene is a favorite.

The Carene is a wonderful pen with that gorgeous embedded nib. I wish I had had better luck with the Jinhao pens. All the best!

No political commentary meant here, but seeing the in court picture of the lawyers and the cheap $.25 click ballpoint pens amazes me. They don't have to use fountain pens, but you are representing a former POTUS and an allegedly very rich man, at least get yourself a nice Parker rollerball or something.
If I ever had to get a lawyer and they show up with a cheap Bic pen, they are out the door.
