Great to listen and watch you go through your fountain pen collection this year. Low spend vs no spend is much more practical in my opinion. Less stress but does command some restraint. Good on you Katie!
Your stacked celluloid pencil is very cool. Also, I wish I knew how to buy vintage. I went to the DC pen show wanting to buy a vintage pen, but was so overwhelmed. Your flex waterman writes beautifully and I would have totally overlooked a pen like that because I sadly shop with my eyes only. Hopefully by next year I'll have learned a bit more about vintage flex nibs. But thanks for sharing your 2023 purchases, you did a great job on your no spend. Congratulations!
I shop with my eyes too. The Waterman's I bought on Reddit so I was able to get a full description and writing sample before I judged it and that helped
Next time you go to a pen show, strike up a conversation with someone at a vintage table. If one person doesn't seem like they want to talk, move on to the next person. You'll find someone who will be more than happy to share their lifetime knowledge of vintage pens, and help you select one, should you so desire.
Thank you for your video! I really love the Pro Gear in a regular size. I actually favor it, more than my slim size. The chunkier feeling of the regular size fits my hand better
Really enjoyed your video & thoughts; many of which definitely resonated with me. 🎉 Yay! You got your Silverburl pen and it's gorgeous! John knocked it out of the park! The facets are perfect and it really does look like a carved piece of marble. Ok....now I'm back to wanting the Nonagon model...thanks for that, Katie! 😂

Thank so much for sharing how you are using your Waterman - I never thought to just dip it in ink!🤯 I have a Waterman 52 with a semi-flex nib and have not been inking it up because it is just horrible to clean. Plus I feel very limited on my ink selections due to sacks not liking certain inks. Feel like I have a new pen again! I don't count my Jinhao 82's either. Purchased a handful from Ali Express to try my hand at nib grinding using whet stones. Have to say, they didn't come out half bad. Love your Silver Burl pen. 😍 I have a very short list for 2024 and a pen from there is on that list.
Greetings from a fellow Michigander! 👋🏻 I came across this video at just the right time. You’re about a year ahead of me in your fountain pen collecting, and I’m feeling very much like you were at the end of 2022. I’m looking forward to continuing to follow along with you in 2024! I’d also love to hear more about your experience at the Detroit Pen Show. I wanted to go this year, but chickened out at the last minute! 😂
Hi Kristin, I'm thrilled to meet you! If you're an IG user, reach out to me @bakerlanestudio, I'd love to chat about the Detroit Pen show and be moral support for 2024 pen buying. 😀
Thanks for sharing! I‘d really like to know the name of the redditor who fits vintage nibs into Jowo feeds. I‘m very interested in getting one. Thank you.
May,I ask where u got that jinhao hand laquered? I would love to see if I could possibly get one 😍 Also thanks for the honest opinion on the Estie...I want one so badly but I feel it's because everyone is talking about them and not that it fills a need or niche in my collection
Unfortunately, I have to get ready for work and am only 4:25 into the video. So I'll have to finish later. I agree wholeheartedly with your statement not to purchase swirly pens without seeing the specific one you are getting first. I need to come back and take notes!

Beautiful additions to your collection. Can I ask where you got your jinhao lacquered?
Thank you for this! I have loved following you on your journey and seeing the end result of 2023!
What a wild year it's been!

Welcome to the rest of your life 😝
I managed to get a fair amount of mileage out of that one dip
Omg. If only i could acquire so many pens in MY low buy!!! Im very jealous! Such a beautiful collection!
I have to admit I was surprised when I saw them all laid out like that. In 2024 I'm changing some of the rules! 😅

Yeees, finally the Waterman makes an appearance. And your Parker has me going bonkers trying to find one.
I did that sample just for you! Good luck with your Parker search!

He doesn't list them very regularly, but his username is Mr-PFM
Did you make those pen pillows? They look really cool! Would love the details - because they seemed like a lovely holiday project :)
Yes, I did! If you message me on Instagram I can send you a picture of my notes (but not until the 24th when I have access to them). @bakerlanestudio

Yeah, it's really hard to feel left out sometimes but it's good to curate our collections to what we actually want to own.
