I’m a psychology student. They actually know why some people develop PTSD and others with the same traumatic experience don’t: social support.
Literally the difference between developing PTSD or recovering within a month depends on your social support system and whether you have people who care, protect or look after your wellbeing. It’s overwhelmingly consistent in the research that terrible relationships are a risk factor for PTSD.

This is so true. I got asthma from a lifetime of wicked abuse (satanic mom). Always sick, ever since childhood my body has been trying to die (first emergency hospitalization at 2)
Now I invest into my health. I do proper nutrition. God provides (every time!) money for supplements. I observe Sabbath every week from Friday evening to Saturday evening. This topic should be given more attention because health is such a resource. (to work, to get out, to function properly, to survive when necessary)
And also any modern day narcissists - I make radical mental boundaries. Don't even say hello. Every time they do something bad to me - I do something good to myself. All credit belongs to God for guiding me, for teaching me this.

Inflammation and rage are linked. It took me decades to acknowledge the repressed rage. Rage quietly simmers after abuse, betrayal poor boundary setting etc.. A life of severe inflammation for me, arthritis from age 18, weird undiagnosable stuff. I was addicted to the idea of family, it's hard to walk away from the narcissistic members means it means losing all of others who are loving and genuine - they just weren't the targets of the narcs so didn't get the depth of the toxicity.
I'm tired of the judgement people have for going no contact with narcissists, but then, if you haven't lived it, you can't believe that that level of mind-f*ck even exists!

I have ALOT siblings and over half of them don't fully understand what is going on with my mom. None of them will agree it's a good move to walk away and I will lose at least 4 of them. I can't convince myself to walk away because it will cause pain to so many who don't deserve it. My mom spirals and lashes out at others when she feels rejected. I've backed away significantly and each time I take a step back my siblings get hurt even further. I'm an ENFJ, this eats my soul. It's pain for me if I stay but pain for others if I go. I know it isn't healthy but I just don't know what to do. I also genuinely love my mom, as mean as she can be sometimes I know it's because her mother did the same to her. And boy was her mother a case. My poor momma didn't deserve that. But I don't deserve it, either. Thank heaven for Jesus, He is the reason my kids will never know that life.

Back in the day, you didn't see autoimmune disorders like these. I mean it did not start to the degree it is now until the 70s and 80s and has become progressively worse. It's as though parents decided to stop wanting to be good parents and the kids are suffering. I'm not sure what will cure this problem other than people becoming better parents. @pinktruffles5156 I had fibromialga and hashimotoes. Those led to nutritional deficiencies and anemia. I slowly became sicker over a 15-year period with the last two years being bedridden, I had muscel waisting, and my mind definitely was not ok. Doctors told me I'd be this way always. I had every side effect from the medications they tried on me, I could not tolerate them. I got past one day over my situation, and I found myself in. I started finding online tons of people with similar situations that healed, and I tried their advice. Some.workwd some didn't. I found a functional medicine doctor who tested my nutrition and found the deficiencies. I took suppliments for those. I changed my diet to an anti inflamitory one and drank bone broth for a while to heal my gut. I learned to take very good care of myself as a life of abuse teaches you how to neglect yourself. I found a councilor who works very well with trama and did not take insurance, so she could work with her clients outside the system and tried therapies on me that are not accepted in traditional therapies. EMDR seems to be very effective. I also went on to somatic healing therapies. I started doing yoga one day. I could barely get out of bed and hold a pose, but I did it for 15 seconds, then the next time 30 seconds, then a minute. Then I was moving around better. I found a yoga studio that I started going to. I'd do the class for 10 minutes, then sit there the rest of the time, then it was 15 minutes. I could make it, then 20 and so forth. Now, I have healed enough to have a totally healed workout. In the meantime, in therapy, I also learned boundaries, self-acceptance, how to not let toxic people affect me, and how to keep a detached state around them. I found healthier people to be around me, supportive people. All of this was addressing the physical, spiritual, and mindful aspects of myself, and I grew a new me.

Dude, I have been waiting and waiting for this video. Thank you so much! After suffering 30 years of narcissistic abuse from my step father, then enabling mother turned narcissist herself, being gas lit for being mentally ill and having my mom lie to a therapist to try to get me committed to a mental hospital, called all my friends and told them not to help me when I was in Turkey and had a problem with my airline ticket and needed help buying another so I could fly home to American, moving across the planet for 8 years just to be as far away as possible, living across the country from them, alienation from my narcissistic father, serial abuse by bully bosses, serial abuse by narcissistic women, 20 years of super hard drinking to try to check out from the pain, I got a phone call from my new Dr. I was surprised to hear she said it was serious and that I needed to come in right away. Despite quitting drinking for several years and being super healthy and active, like almost bodybuilding like dedication to training, I struggled with getting bloated. It turns out I had acquired hypothyroidism, or Hashimoto's, my body stopped making enough thyroid and it was from being way over stressed for way too long. I was in denial about how serious it was, so I tried going off the medicine I have to take every day or I will die. Within a month I went from like 230lbs to 270, while exercising and dieting. I was nearly in hospital and had to get back on my synthetic thyroid hormone medicine. Now, years later I have various weird things breaking down, skin rashes, too much mucus, asthma problems, inflammation and all of it is from my autoimmune disease. I am now allergic to food I that never bothered me before. I am terribly gluten intolerant, awful with too much sugar or carbs, on some days dairy wipes me out, so I mostly eat red meat. If I get stressed or too nervous now my body just gets sick, it's crazy. So on top of everything else I now have to be super diligent about not taking anything too seriously, lest I break out in a rash or start swelling up. None of the several doctors that I have to see understand me when I tell them I have autoimmune from narcissistic abuse and stress, or even that ALL of my health problems are from my autoimmune disease, which is the root cause of all of them. They act like I am crazy for suggesting such a connection. I live in Florida, they are in Montana, I am happily married and have a great job, went to Eagle Scout, Academic Scholarships to college, degree in cellular biology, all State Musician- trombonist, martial arts champion and instructor, highly skilled sales manager and I am the black sheep of my family. I went no contact with my family 4 months ago because I realized the relationship was literally killing me. I got gout about 15 years ago it was one of the first major things that went wrong with me.

Hashimotos is very common from narcissistic abuse. Yeah you have to take that thyroid hormone for the rest of your life, because the body isnt making it and its a critical hormone for the metabolism of food. A terrible but relatable story about the string of abusive bosses and women and I can add toxic "friends" to that list as Im sure you can too. People-pleasing, fawning, hyper-vigilance, anxiety, depression, self-doubt, low-esteem, unable to function, fear of people and places, the list goes on. Good to hear you are back on your feet and have a good life. Gives me hope I can find love and support also. Meditation is the way to gain strength over the tendency to ruminate and have racing and catastrophic thinking. Meditation, if done correctly enables mastery over your attention, like exercising a muscle, you develop the ability to calmly observe the mind, once removed in what they call the "Witness" position, rather than identify and latch on to every arising thought and become emotionally involved and follow it along to a catastrophic conclusion. This Witness meditation breaks the vicious circle of anxiety giving rise to anxious thoughts which reinforces anxiety which gives rise to anxious thoughts ad nauseum.

I had hives more often than not. Lots of them all over my body.
Scratching in public was not something that was common in my neighborhood or the school I attended.
This nurse also went to our church.
She asked my mother when was she going to do something about my hives?
My mother answered her as if my suffering was inconsequential,
" Oh, they always go away."
By the time I hit middle school I had ulcers, and by the time I was in high school I had suffered so many outbreaks of hives they could be as large as a football on any or many parts of my body severely affecting my ability to do the work and duties she had assigned me to do.
Endless chores, and no affection and a relative amount of disdain for me.
She could not support me in much of anything and she pretended that no one would notice.

I feel so sorry for others who had to start out their lives this way!
I then dated covert narcissist for years only to realize that he was good at faking concern but had no real ability to truly love or exhibit any real giving or appreciation or remorse or empathy etc.
I realized that he was just like her.
Then I had children and suffered with their narcissist dad.
    What a life!
If we could explore the true environment that babies, children and minor are living in we would probably be able to help people before they are struck down at an early age with such maladies as this and all the other autoimmune disorders that you mentioned.
If someone turns you stomach inside out or just turns it that is for me a big red flag!!
Most people do not tell on their abusers because they have no where else to go and children can only opt to run away!
Or stay . Both choices are dangerous!!!!!
    Crying Shame!!!
So I have studied Psychology for over forty years and people are still like ostriches with their heads buried in the sand.
Thankfully I discovered the one and only Sam Vaknin.
    He saved my life!!!!!
He said every term that you hear on Utube concerning narcissitic abuse he invented except grey rock!
He has been working on this since 1996, and I wish I had a computer to find him on. Twenty long years staying before I watch his videos one after another and he was so spot on about everything that my now ex of eight years was putting me through daily. WOW!
It was like the song , Strumming My P

Saying my life with his words, I broke down and cried hard !!!

I rarely comment but felt compelled to this time.
Let me say one thing for sure, it is never wise to date a narcissist!!!!!
People do androids. 😂 It just came up on the word choice screen when I was attempting to spell the word and,... And I decided with humor to go with that instead of finishing my original sentence. 😆. Haha!
So back to what I was going to say is that it takes a long time for most people to ascertain just what thou hast wrought upon thyself?
      Opps!!!
      What have we here?
      Oh no not again!
We were programed upon arrival to planet 🌎.
      A truly crying Shame!
The trouble is that by the time you hit that lightbulb moment, you have another narc on your hands and in your life and you told them your past and now they weaponise it against you in the subtlest of ways so it is impossible for you to defend yourself.
By then a person is very emotionally invested and lets it go this time.
Until they do it again and again etc. Because they take it as if you have given them permission to dis you!
Or they say you are too sensitive and get over it! I was only joking!

I grew up with a narcissistic mother and married into a family with a very toxic mother-in-law, a covert narcissist. I was not familiar with covert narcissism as my mother was a grandiose narcissist. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and epilepsy four years ago. The epilepsy is caused by one of the lesions on my brain measuring at 1.7 cm in length.
It’s my opinion that if you’re already genetically inclined to certain health issues, adding emotionally/verbally/mentally/physically abusive people therefore causing serious trauma into the mix, it will guarantee disease and the progression of that disease. I now struggle with basic body functions that I once took for granted-I won’t get into the long list of problems I know have bc of my disease. GET OUT and STAY OUT, GO NO CONTACT. You can honor your mother and father from far away by praying for them, and not speaking bad of them to others.

When 2nd husband started w/ his “back problems,” I had to care for him nonstop. He abused me in every way possible. Plus, when I had flares, I was on my own. I left in 2021, and he dragged out the divorce until this past December. Even though I was on Mavenclad in 2023, it actually made me worse: I’ve had 4 flares since Jan. Like you, my symptoms have quickly disabled me causing problems I never thought would happen to me. You’re right: Only the good die young.

I could be wrong but I can see a clear line between the increase of narcissistic abuse fallout (kids who experience it > grow up to be adults who now recognize it > dealing now with the fallout) and when parents stopped taking care of their kids. Back in the day, if you were bulled at school or whatever, your parents (in my case, my mom) helped me get through it and supported me, taught me to be strong and helped me feel better. Moms aren't around like they used to be, it's like parents nowadays are more interested in proving their worth in a career versus being a good parent. It started around the 80s and parents have gotten progressively worse. The 80s and 90s kids are adults now and those chickens have come home to roost. They're all over the internet talking about how their parents weren't there for them. How they suffered abuse, their parents didn't know or cause it themselves. Parents stopped being dialed in to the family some how along the timeline.

I learned about that over a decade ago. I wish more people knew how much emotional health tears down our physical health and impairs our healing ability as well.
That is a big reason why sometimes counseling can tremendously help people because holding it in and not talking about it for releasing the trauma in someway it definitely causes physical illness as well .

2 husband's who abused me seem upset with the outcome. One was who I was married to when I was diagnosed with MS & Lupus. He was verbally & physically abusive. The 2nd was there to verbally abuse, use & control me for 15 years & when I'm health got worse & I was given a very grim diagnosis he walked out.
Both act like I'm wrong for my motto "once I'm done I'm done". Both want me back. Both tell everyone that I'm the one who wanted a divorce & act like I was supposed to just take it.
I'm not great in health now though 9 months of renewing my relationship with God & healing. It'll take time & still dealing with the 2nd husband who drinks at a bar 2 blocks from my home everyday. I just keep praying for freedom.

autoimmune diseases can often be caused by certain chronic infections such as borreliosis or EBV. the stress from dysfunctional relationships might have effect on immune function, which might then in turn, cause the illness to rebloom. since doctors are not obligated to find these causes, then scapegoats are then double jeopardized. knowledge helps in such scenarios for healing. -Lori

But we are gluttons for punishment wanting to restore the unhealthy toxics, but finally you have to walk away, turn your back and leave them in hell because they chose that, you didn't. Later in life working through my childhood trauma and going no contact with my parents helped me to finally get normal blood work. Even doctors said it’s not possible to have antibodies just disappear but they did. My father was a lying narcissistic abuser and I developed type 1 diabetes at age 5. I nearly died from ketoacidosis and was rushed to the hospital where my blood sugar was above 800. True to his narcissistic demonic form he blamed me for developing it and used it as an excuse to demean and belittle me. In the pre-insulin-pump era going through puberty resulted in bonkers blood sugars, which consequentially resulted in less than stellar grades in school. This gave him further opportunities to continuously berate me and judge me as being "lazy" and a "bad investment".

And I've been going to the Dr for Autoimmune issues and everything from arthritis, swelling joints, gout, thyroid issues, loss of hair, migraines, skin infections (red rashes and itchy skin, swelling around the nuckles on my fingers), and some blood issues. So last week my Dr finally asked about my living situation and asked if there was abuse or something else that this may be causing it all. Literally doing what I can to move out now that I know this, and with sky high rents and housing assistance telling me after 2 years I'm number 8000+ on their list. I've pretty much have decided to live in my car, put my stuff in storage (that I can visit and hang out daily), and a gym membership (so I can shower and have a place with air and heat as needed). I think it is the only way to escape unfortunately, but it is better than abuse that is killing me.

Agree 100%, I also believe that once trauma sets into the body, the immune system ceases to function properly, then this can also lead to cancer and other life threatening diseases.
    Omega 3 reduces cytokines.
Ive done a ton of research on this stuff also after having experienced a lot of trauma in my life, and it all stemmed from my upbringing. My life started changing when I got away from it, and the same thing happened to me, all of the stress finally took its toll on me and I had to do the work to get my body healthy and functioning properly again. The human body IS capable of healing itself if the environment is changed to promote a healing atmosphere, as well as, given the proper nutrients. Mind, body, and spirit are all of the aspects, and I wish that healthcare providers would address it this way instead of just prescribing drugs and making people think they are forever broken and need to rely on prescription medications. This is exactly what big pharma wants, people stay sick and make them rich off of their pain and suffering.

Many studies have found 5x contributing factors for an autoimmune condition to go from poor living conditions and environment to full blown autoimmune malfunction:
    1. Poorly Managed High Stress levels, 2. Chronically Poor Sleep 3. Poor Diet, 4. Poor fitness 5. Contact or ingestion of modern disruptor chemicals, and + A SINGULAR TRIGGER EVENT that has a HIGH IMPACT Body or Emotional shock to the system (Car Accident, Grief, Severe illness, Hospitalization/medical procedure, Divorce, etc.).
    > OTHERWISE KNOWN AS A-NARCISSIST-TARGETS LIFESTYLE AND A MATCH!
To manage the new Narc gift, reduce and/or eliminate all inflammatory triggers, starting with 1-5.
The sooner you get your life built back for max health, the less damage to repair. Consider it your new lifestyle.
And trust me, you can wait, and it WILL kill you, even if your doctors cannot determine what ails you.
And for a bonus, leave you at the mercy of your loving Narcissist before it does.
Do not expect help or cooperation from the Narcissist. Helpless and Dependent are exactly where they want you.
If they promise help, know it for the lie it is. (and Stealth, remember stealth!)
They will willingly sabatage any effort at escape, stress management, proper food, proper self care, and definitely siphon any money they know about.
Can you even sleep a full night any more?
Healing can be done. But It will take some doing!
    Good Luck!

what Kevins is saying is 110% true. when you are in a toxic relationship for an extended period of time, your flight or fight response is operating constantly and according to medical research, any organism can tolerate short-term stress, meaning any stress response is only allowed to last for a short period of time. no organism can survive in a flight or fight response for a long period of time, if it does you are headed for a disease. that proves people who are in toxic relationships tend to get all different kinds of illnesses and diseases because they are living in stress response all day long because of the toxicity they are engaged in. Just imagine living your entire life in flight or fight response day in and day out due to the abuse, of course, your body will lose all of its energy to regulate itself( maintaining balance ) and your immune system will weaken because it does have enough energy to function due to the fact that all of that energy is borrowed by the body to deal with the external threats of abuse. I got this whole thing from a Neoro scientist explaining the connection between the mind and body. i am sure you know dr joe Dispenza. he was explaining this flight or fight response with regards to our thoughts, and how humans can turn on the stress response by thought alone. ❤❤❤

CRPS has not been officially deemed an autoimmune disease yet. After a lifetime of narcopathic abuse (along with other serious trauma as well), I received a diagnosis of CRPS or RSD, and I'm living proof that no contact promotes healing. Although my autonomic and parasympathetic nervous system's may not ever be normal, I can say remission from some of the severe painful symptoms of CRPS 1 type has been possible, at least for me.
Take it seriously, people. It's not worth your life to endure the torture of toxic people if you have the option to cut them off.

abuse leads to a lot of stress and that leads to the autoimmune disease. the problem with this type of stress that it does not end when the actual physical situation does, it keeps going on in our minds and bodies until we heal the trauma - that is what most people who have never endured it are missing! overtime the body gives way and also becomes dysfunctional.

Interesting you have made this connection. My older sister developed the autoimmune disease Sarcoidosis. She also had breast cancer and a partial mastectomy which is related to lymph nodes. My mother is a narcissist either covert or NPD, Im not sure definitively. My sister received an amount of abuse and I was scapegoated also. I have depression and have had acute anxiety for most of my life, anxiety / depression related eating disorder related to poor appetite and poor food choices which I have since corrected. I am lucky to have avoided an autoimmune condition. SALT, FAT, SUGAR - A lot of the conditions described in this video are also related to poor food choices, food is used as an emotional regulator, trauma victims tend to choose dopaminergic foods(foods that induce dopamine) SUGAR for example, excites exactly the same region of the brain as Cocaine. Sugar is highly toxic, causes heart problems, causes an over-release of dopamine, which down-regulates dopamine sensors causing depression symptoms to worsen and also causes an increase in the intake of sugar to reach the same high as before. Sugar hardens and blocks arteries, causes whole body inflammation, all cancers are inflammation related. Fried starchy foods contain high amounts of the carcinogen Acrylamide. Fried foods use highly inflammatory cooking oils namely SEED oils which have been identified as highly toxic to the human body.
Trauma-induced emotional eating compounds trauma and all cause mortality causing premature death.
