  • The breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh has been dissolved after decades of bloody conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Subscribe to Guardian News on RUclips ► bit.ly/guardianwiressub
The collapse has led to almost all the ethnic Armenians living in the region to flee over the border into neighbouring Armenia. Many say they will never return.
The Guardian’s Andrew Roth and Christopher Cherry were at the border as the exodus began. They heard the stories of those fleeing their homeland, sometimes for the third and fourth time, in a conflict that has claimed the lives of thousands.

The lady at the end of the video said that I don't want any nation live this situation. But we Azerbaijanis lived the same situation back in 1992 and no one told about it. More than 1 million of ethnic Azerbaijanis were displaced from Karabakh and some killed in just one night. Everyone talks about ethnic cleansing but no one talks about Khojali genocide. Children, women who has baby and elderly people killed in the night during winter of February 26.

Interestingly, even some Armenian presidents (like Ter-Petrosyan) were aware of the fact, that without peaceful settlement, that conflict would make the region explode. I think Armenians need to criticize themselves about the problem. Nagorno-Karabakh was an autonomous region before the war. Armenians in Azerbaijan lived in peace with Azerbaijanis and Azerbaijanis in Armenia lived in peace with Armenians. The radical separatist attitude of the Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians led to the 1st Karabakh war. As a result, Azerbaijani Armenians living outside Nagorno-Karabakh were forced to migrate to Armenia, and Azerbaijanis living in Armenia, Karabakh and the regions surrounding Karabakh were forced to migrate to areas of Azerbaijan that were not occupied during the war.
There were many attempts to reach a ceasefire in the war, but the separatists in Nagorno-Karabakh continued their occupation. As is well known, they also committed large-scale massacres such as the Khojaly Massacre with the aim of ethnic cleansing. As a result, they gained control over an area far above the Armenian majority and expelled hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis.
This exile and war consumed Azerbaijan. It ended the democracy process in Azerbaijan. Today, while Georgia and Armenia have democracy, the reason for the lack of democracy and authoritarian rule in Azerbaijan is the Karabakh war, and it was the Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians who started this war.
It is normal that they are afraid to live under the authoritarian rule in Azerbaijan now, but this is because of their own actions. The culture of democracy had become a luxury in Azerbaijan, which was exhausted by the war and had to deal with the poverty of nearly a million exiled people.
In addition, from 1994, when the ceasefire was signed, until 2020, the Armenians of the region were not interested in any settlement. When a settlement was approached in 1997, Levon Ter-Petrosyan was dismissed from his post. Whenever peace efforts accelerated, the radical Armenian authorities in Nagorno-Karabakh blocked peace by forcing the Armenian state. However, until the 2010s, Azerbaijan was willing to give Nagorno-Karabakh a lot of autonomy. All they wanted was that the region around Karabakh, which had been cleared of Azerbaijanis, be returned to Azerbaijani rule and that Nagorno-Karabakh remain officially part of Azerbaijan. However, the maximalist Nagorno-Karabakh Armenian authorities did not agree to this. Politically, they served Russia's interests. They did not care about their own people and Azerbaijanis. Russia, as it seems, put Pashinyan in a difficult situation by allowing Azerbaijan to intervene in the region in Armenia's attempt to gain some independence from Russia.
Please criticize yourself a little bit, Armenian friends, please. I am very sorry for what happened, but you have forgotten the nearly one million people who have been driven from their homes for 30 years. You did not care. You thought that the occupation will last forever and the Azerbaijanis have no rights on those lands because these lands belong to Greater Armenia.

"Let's assume that there were Armenian kingdoms in Nagorno-Karabakh. Now, a simple question. Currently, there are approximately 10 million Armenians worldwide, as they claim. Two centuries ago, the Armenian population of the land could not have been the same; there were significantly fewer Armenians. I found reports stating that in the 4th-5th centuries, the population of Greater Armenia was around 3 million. The Armenian version seems highly doubtful. For comparison, I'll mention that in Ancient Rome, there were 20 million ancestors of modern Italians. In modern Italy, there are 60 million inhabitants. A threefold increase, but Italy as a unified state or even as several feudal states can be traced back two millennia. They were not killed, expelled, or subjected to genocide. Armenians claim a threefold increase, even though they were more often subjected to genocide than most other nations throughout their history. Therefore, the Armenians' claimed figure of 3 million does not inspire confidence. But let's stick with it to simplify calculations.
Next: the distance between Adana (Cilicia) and Nagorno-Karabakh is 1,461 km. Armenians want to say that a space of 1,500 kilometers was populated by three million Armenians? No one else was there? Greeks, Assyrians, Kurds, dozens of other lesser-known peoples... How can you create and maintain a state there with such a negligible population density while defending it from enemies? Impossible.
And the migration of Armenians from the Mediterranean to the Caucasus is plausible, as there are historical facts supporting it, as well as the well-known Armenian migration theory, according to which they originated from European Thrace and migrated to the Near East. Their Balkan origins are confirmed by national dances and costumes of Armenians, identical to those of the Balkans.
Nomadic life is characteristic of Armenians, and it is still observed today, although Armenians, more than others, are known for their racist assessments of nomads.
Independent and safe coexistence of fewer than three million Armenians on a vast territory, with a distance of one and a half thousand kilometers (from the Mediterranean Sea to Nagorno-Karabakh), is impossible. They may have roamed in masses - I believe that, but simultaneous habitation on such a territory - no, leave those tales for your children."
