  • Azerbaijan is now in full control of Nagorno-Karabakh.
That appears to mark the end of decades of fighting over the disputed enclave.
Armenia and Azerbaijan have struggled for control of the region for decades.
It is internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan, but is home to a large population of ethnic Armenians.
Fearing reprisals, they are now fleeing across the border.
So what will become of them?
And could this have implications for separatist struggles elsewhere in the world
    Presenter: Mohammed Jamjoom
    Guests
Nigar Arpadarai, Member of Azerbaijan Parliament.
Matthew Bryza, Former U.S. Mediator of the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict
Arsen Kharatyan, former Adviser to the Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan.

Guys please, as an Armenian I'm saying enough is enough. Enough blood has been wasted in this area for more than 100 years. How many innocent people have to suffer more until this finally finds an end? Since I was a little child the most thing I always wished was peace for armenia and that region. This area have been playball for big geopolitical players for long enough, who were just serving their interests there at any cost. I know some really good turkish people here in austria, where I wouldn't hesitate to call them brothers because they are such beautiful souls and wish exactly the same like me. I don't want to start a big political discussion about what happened in the past. Both sides have blood on their hands. Just want to say, that I'm happy that the azeri refugees can finaly come back to their homes and it was a big failure to ever touch azeri civilians and made them to refugees. If some monsters did that a some point, it doesn't mean the opposite side should do the same, because then they would turn to monsters by themselves. Unfortunately many armenian civilians have now also lost their homes, but anyway I'm hoping the Turkish, Azeris and Armenian people can finally find peace after this, and maybe, someday they will live side by side together again, like they did in the past.

The “Nagorno-Karabakh” term was established by Armenia after Karabakh’s invasion in the early 90s. The purpose was to show Karabakh as a separate entity from Azerbaijan. I’m reality it’s just another city/district/county of Azerbaijan. There is no “Nagorno-Karabakh”, there is only Karabakh. Btw for those who wonder, Kara means black in the Azerbaijani/Turkish language, Bag(bakh) means garden in the Azerbaijani/Turkish language. Karabakh means black garden while it has no meaning in Armenian. “Karabakh Khanate” was established in 1747 by Panahali Khan and today’s Zangazur (Armenians call it Syunik”) was part of Karabakh Khanate. In 1805 Russia invaded Karabakh Khanate under general commander Sisianov’s initiative. In 1828 treaty of Turkmenchay was signed between Iran and Russia as their war ended and Russia claimed Karabakh as its vassal state. Russia also moved 140,000 Armenians to the South Caucasus (mainly Karabakh) from Iran and Turkey between 1828 and 1830. That was the first time Armenians stepped on the South Caucasus. Azerbaijani Turks officially lived on these lands since the 11th century as Oghuz Seljugs. If you do slight research about who are descendants of Oghuz Turks you’ll find out 3: Turkey, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan.

The moderators did a decent job of making sure both sides got to Express their opinions and give facts about what's happening on the ground. This is very important having two people from different sides of the war speak to each other and have a debate... i know emotions get high but it would be for the best if the moderators could mute one sides Microphone while the other side is talking... give each side 5-10mins to express their views and opinions. Let one talk and then mute them and let the other talk. It gets counterproductive when both sides just yell over each other

It's not hard to see where Matthew Bryza's blatant bias in favor of Azerbaijan comes from:
    1) In May 2010, the White House appointed Bryza as the United States Ambassador to Azerbaijan. His nomination ultimately was never confirmed by the full Senate, however, and after serving as Ambassador for less than a year, Bryza left the State Department and joined the Azerbaijani-government affiliated Turcas petrol board.
    2) Conflict of interest concerns including reports were raised that the then Azerbaijani Foreign Minister served as 1 of 3 groomsmen in Bryza's wedding.
    3) Reporters Without Borders raised concerns about the persecution of Azerbaijani reporters who reported that an Azerbaijani government minister partially paid for Bryza's wedding. According to an article by Ganimat Zahid and Agil Khalil in the Azerbaijani newspaper Azadliq, the then Minister of Economic Development of Azerbaijan, Heydar Babayev, paid for a significant portion of Bryza’s wedding in Istanbul, Turkey.

I wonder if those displaced Armenians had sympathized with the 700,000 Azeris who had to flee Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding districts as a result of their victory in the first war in the 1990s. So many people pouring out heartfelt emotions in their direction today, completely oblivious or willfully forgetting that they were guilty of doing the same to their neighbors three decades ago. Some of those old men in the video clip were personally responsible for doing it to the Azeris and they went home to those now old women who celebrated and congratulated them for killing and displacing others for being different. Now, they suffer the same fate in their lifetime when they are incapable of effectively fighting back. Karma is exactly who they say she is.

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is the longest-running in post-Soviet Eurasia. In 1988, ethnic Armenians living in Nagorno-Karabakh demanded the transfer of what was then the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO) from Soviet Azerbaijan to Armenia. As the Soviet Union collapsed, tensions grew into an outright war.

Armenia is a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), a Russia-dominated alliance of post-Soviet states that pledge to protect each other in the event of an attack.
Why is Armenia mad? Because Russia for years and years have done nothing to stop or solve the issue. That forced Armenia to be upset. Russia caused it.
And a treaty is a treaty no matter if Putin feelings is hurt. Russia under the treaty has to follow it. NATO does so and Russia is a liar.
Trust me here. Russia will pay for this treason. Russia forced Armenia to be upset at them. That training with NATO troops is the result of Russia not honoring their part of the treaty and Armenia showing their displeasure. Back stabbed!

There is literaly no way to spin this where Armenia was the victim here. My heart also goes out to all those families who fled and are now displaced, but by every metric, this is on Armenia, not Azerbaijan. Karabakh is entirely contained within Azerbaijan, and Armenia was insistent on keeping an armed separatist movement there. Everything that has happened for the last 30+ years has been a result of not being willing to accept reality. The irony is that they might have had a shot at creating an autonomous region under the authority of Baku at the beginning, but at this point, the current situation is probably the "most ideal outcome".
That this finally ended is a good thing for both sides, Armenia and Azerbaijan. For once, there is a real shot at a peace deal not skewered by this region standing like an elephant in the middle of the room. I know it is painful for Armenia right now, but if they can work with the Azeris to put this behind them and broker a deal that respects both nation's borders and sovereignty, both sides might come out of this in a far better position.
Until then, despite my distate for autocratic governments, I continue to believe that Azerbaijan was in the right here. I only hope they keep their word about treating the population there with dignity and respecting them as they would any other citizen so it doesn't continue to devolve. That region needs peace, healing, and reconciliation - not more violence, war, or hate. They also need to stop asking Europe, Russia, or the US to broker deals and start working with the regional powers. Iran and Armenia across the table from Turkey and Azerbaijan meeting in as neutral a place as they can find.
As a side note, they will cease to be in the right if they cross the border into Armenia and attempt to annex land for their bridge to the west. At that point, they will be the aggressors, so hopefully a peace deal comes before that happens.

Why didn’t Armenia organize hot meals and distribution of sandwiches, tea, coffee, milk or cocoa for Armenian repatriates at the border on its territory? After all, Armenia has been screaming for several months about “hunger” and “fainting from hunger,”
even “deaths” in the separatist stub. Any state showing genuine concern, first of all, immediately at the border, would organize food for people if these people were really starving. Is not it? But Armenia does not even give water to the Armenian repatriates (they all have Armenian passports). An interesting, phenomenal and very Armenian, in its deceitful essence, situation :-) Why not ask these questions to European liberals, journalists and human rights activists?
